Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Officially Launched

Virgin Mobile USA officially launched the LG Optimus V today. The phone is now available on VM's web site for $149.99 plus state sales tax where applicable. Shipping is free.

Probably the most anticipated prepaid phone in a long time the Optimus V is a nicely spec'ed modern Android handset with a 3.2-inch touch-screen display. It's 3G (the faster EVDO rev A) and Wi-Fi capable, has a 3.2 MP camera and video.

Additional features include:
  • Swype, a faster and easier way to input text on any screen, using one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard which enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input method, up to 40 words per minute
  • Contact and calendar sync via ActiveSync
  • Android Web browser
  • Full integration of Google Apps™ such as Google Maps™, Gmail™ and Google Navigation™
  • Document file viewer
  • Built-in music player
By far the best feature of the Optimus V and Virgin Mobile is the plan pricing. Unlimited data, text and picture messaging with 300 voice minutes is available for $25/month including all taxes except state sales taxes in some states.  Compare that with Verizon which charges a minimum of $94.99/month to use an Android device on prepaid!
