LG 800G $49.99 Touchscreen Returns to TracFone.com and Net10.com

The LG 800G, TracFone and NET10's first touchscreen phone, has been missing from both operator's websites for over a month. The phone was very popular although some users have reported text messaging problems including receiving the same text over and over or not receiving any texts.  On the other hand, there are many happy LG 800G users who haven't had any problems.

I don't know if the phone's disappearance was related to the texting problems or if it was just sold out.  Several users on Howard Forums have already received new phones and report that the software version is different from the original batch so maybe something was fixed.

The LG 800G is $49.99 with free shipping at TracFone.com and NET10.com. Use coupon code GI2011 to get $5 off any TracFone or Nwt10 phone purchase.

  1. I just purchased a LG 800 G at Target today. I currently have a Moto W376 G that is a Tracfone. What is the best way to copy my contacts and install them on my new LG 800G. My computer does recognize my old W376G but can't seem to figure out where to go from here. I do not want to port my number until I know what I'm doing.

    Thank you
    KAB

  2. I don't have a good answer for you. Transferring contacts between non-smartphones tends to be a real pain and I don't have any experience with the W376G. Things you can try:

1.) Highlight a contact on the W376G, press Options and look for a "Send contact via Bluetooth" or similar choice under options. That should let you send your contacts one at a time to the LG800.
    2) If that doesn't work you may be able to use a SIM card reader for your PC to copy the contacts on the W376G SIM card to the 800G's SIM as described here.

  3. I was considering this phone as an option. Is it possible to access the internet with a non-smart phone? I was hoping to process a credit card transaction via a website, but I would have to enter some card information. I know you can access the web, but can you actually do anything? Thanks

  4. Yes it's possible to view web sites with the browser on this phone. Mobile formatted sites work best and most major e-commerce sites including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Nordstrom, Radio Shack and Best Buy have mobile formatted versions that they automatically deliver to mobile browsers.

You can install the free Opera Mini browser which is faster and easier to use than the one that come with the phone.

It is possible (but very tedious) to enter all the details required to make a credit card purchase using a mobile browser. Fortunately, most e-commerce sites let you save your billing and shipping information when you make a purchase so that you don't have to re-enter it for subsequent purchases.

  5. Thank you for your reply. What I need it for is to enter credit card information at art shows. I've been using the old-fashioned knuckle-buster and entering the card info. online when I get home. It's less info. to enter since I don't have to bother with addresses, just cc#'s. We shall see.
Any advantage to the new Motorola EX124G, other than the triple minutes that Tracfone offers?

  6. The Motorola EX124G is a higher end phone with a touch screen and a better camera than the LG 500g. However, I suspect text entry will be faster and more accurate using the 80G's QWERTY.

  7. I know the phone has the web but how is it for social networking? That would be my main use for the web on this phone?

  8. The mobile web versions of Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and most other social networks will work with the LG 500G browser you can better a better browsing expeience by installing the Opera Mini browser.

Or you can post statuses and photos to your social networks and get your friend's updates using text and picture messages.

There are some Twitter, Facebook, etc. apps that might run on the phone but done of the ones I've seen are very good.

The biggest problem with social networking on TracFone or Net10 (except NET10 Unlimited) is cost. The per minute browsing and per message charges will add up quickly.

  10. I don't have any connections with Tracfone so there's nothing I can do to help.

It's a long shot but you could try calling TracFone's Executive Resolutions Dept. 1-800-876-5753 Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST. I doubt that there is anything they can do about it though.

If the phone didn't scan I doubt it will ever activate until it's scanned properly. You have to work with the store that sold it to you, it's their screw up.

  11. How do I set up the QWERTY keyboard on the LG800g?

    ReplyDelete
  12. To use the QWERTY for texts:
On the Create New Message screen, tap in the To: box
When the keypad appears, tap the menu button in the bottom left corner of the screen
    Tap "Input Method"
Tap "Keyboard", display will switch to landscape and QWERTY keyboard will appea.

  13. I just recently purchased an LG800G phone from Tracfone. Is there an available app for getting Stock Qutations? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't know of any stock apps that would work on the 800G. You could use a mobile stock tracking site in the browser, or better yet, Opera Mini. Here's a list of links to mobile stock quote sites.

  16. this phone is good...but then the touch screen doesnt work now....i can receive calls and call the last person i talked to. but i cant make calls or text...is there way to fix it?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Probably not. But try taking the battery out for at least a full minute and then putting the battery back and restarting the phone. If that doesn't fix it call TracFone and ask them to replace it under warantty

  20. Bot my LG800g on Amazon from 3rd Party, still a TracF0N3, and got the phone + 400min activation number + TripleMin (1200min TT) for $89.00; I couldn't buy a 400min card thru TracF0N3 for less than that!! Alas, I had a problem. I thot, 'Great... if it sounds too good to be true... Urgh!'; Contacted the Seller, told him that my phone wouldn't take the 4GB Mem Card (My PC loaded sound and pic files on it fine). They sent me another phone with a PRE-Paid phone return package (COOL!). While waiting for delivery of new phone (only took 5-days), I found online that this phone only accepts cards up-to 4GB and best to stick with SanDisk MicroSD cards as others have limited success at best, but NO GREATER than 4GB (as if I needed MORE, my first PC had a 850MB hard drive and that was HUGE at the time, teehee). Anyway, I bought another card online for $5 + $2.5 S/H and now have a TT of 8GB to store stuff that I might want to listen to or watch on my phone. My old TracFone was abt out of mins, so now I have over 1200 with an expiration date 18mo away from the activation date. I don't talk or text much, so I figure I'll buy more min's around 9mos into the 18mo AT TRIPLE THEIR FACE VALUE and I will be good w/o having to worry about an expiration date until mid-November, 2013 (two-thousand-thirteen)... WOOHOO!!
