Straight Talk just launched the LG 511C in CDMA-only markets. This is the first CDMA phone on any of the América Móvil US prepaid brands (Straight Talk, NET10 and TracFone) that has a touchscreen, or 3G or a memory card and music player. It can be used on either the Straight Talk $30 or $45 plans.
CDMA-only markets are areas like Sturgeon Bay, WI (zipcode 54235) or Missoula, MT (zipcode 59801) where neither AT&T or T-Mobile offers service but Verizon or US Cellular does.
The LG 511C is a decent mid range touchscreen feature phone with a 2MP camera, slide out QWERTY keyboard and 3" 240x400px screen. It's not a smartphone by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not even sure if it supports installing Java apps or not.
Unfortunately, StraightTalk is charging $199.99 for this phone, which strikes me as much more than its worth. The LG 511C appears to be the same phone as the Rumor Touch, also known as the Banter Touch, which has been available from Sprint, Virgin Mobile, US Cellular and MetroPCS for over a year. Virgin Mobile currently sells the Rumor Touch for $99.99, half of what Straight Talk is charging.
The LG 511C is only listed on straighttalk.com if you enter a CDMA-only zipcode when you first enter the site.

I tried entering the promo code but it wouldnt accept it.
ReplyDeleteThat "C" tells me that it is a CDMA phone , BUT that "C" does not tell me "Which" CDMA network it is for. Sprint also uses the CDMA Network ,but I cannot use Sprint in my area. It MUST be Verizon only. So how can I tell if it does not have a "V" ?
DeleteYou are right! GI2011 doesn't work any more. Thanks for letting me know. I've removed the code from the post.
ReplyDeleteDamn you can get a prepaid ANDROID PHONE for less than this on a prepaid but the problem is that stupid staighttalk contracted it through SPRINT the worse carrier ever besides AT&T....what ever happened to contracting with Verizon..I have been with straighttalk for a few years now and this is the best they can do !!! makes me mad !!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had problem with my signal and just emailed straight talk and they called me right away and are sending me a new phone through Verizon? because my old on was on AT&T (straight talk)
DeleteI can not find 1 prepaid ANDROID PHONE that will work in my area....SOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING
ReplyDeletePrepaid androids run off Sprint Prepaid so of course they're not going to be a hit.
ReplyDeleteTry Cricket prepaid or monthly and there is no difference between monthly and prepaid by the way with Cricket go to mycricket.com their android phones will work in your area they are the only company that works in my area besides the old verizon straight talk phones too so i know what u mean lol hope that helps
ReplyDeleteit is by verizon. CDMA is verison and G somethin is at&t
ReplyDeleteya i bought the android and was told bhy a service rep on straight talk it was on verizon, then i get it and have no signal. i call back and then they say it was on sprinht and then they tried to argue that they never said it was on verizon. sent it right back
ReplyDeletei think this phone is appearing to be the better deal, even though its twice as much in cost as virgin mobile's rumor touch is. getting this ensures you with great service since it runs through verizon's tower, as to where virgin mobile goes through sprint's towers. i had the rumor touch with them for 2 weeks, and i fell in love with the phone but i had to take it back because it came with the crappiest service ever. i cannot stress how excited i am to see that straighttalk finally has a similar model available now, i have been with them for a year and have gotten great service nearly everywhere i go unlike with virgin mobile. i plan on purchasing this phone in the near future. :)
ReplyDeleteI purchased this phone, have had it operational for 2 days and wish I had not. My last phone was also an LG slider and was a far superior phone although 1/3 of the price of this one. This one does not give you quick access to previous texts sent or received to someone so you can check back to see what was said previously. You also cannot send texts to someone in Canada; it will receive them, but not send. You cannot easily turn on the speaker phone without opening the slider, which is inconvenient when driving. And no one can tell you these things; you find them out after purchasing and using it. I would not recommend getting into a cell phone plan through Wal Mart as no on who works there can give you any details on the phones they offer. You only have 15 days to return a phone and only if it is unopened. I admit, it does take nice pics, but I'd rather have a more functional phone and texting device. $200 is way too much money for this phone. Anyone want to buy a LG511C for half off?
ReplyDeleteAnother thing: when writing a text, you can only use 150 characters and when you reach that point, it simply stops and you have to start an entire new text if you are not through with what you want to say. My old LG would simply go into a 2nd text and you didn't have to stop... I really hate this phone!
YES, send me the information to cpktom@bellsouth.net.
DeleteI don't know what information you are talking about but posting your email on the web like you just did is asking for SPAM. I recommend you delete the comment.
Deletei have this phone and i love it i get great seavice internet is fast its must faster than my old samsung t528g
DeleteDude, Im sorry to hear your having so much problems with this the LG511C, I really need a bigger screen and a keyboard, I had bought the Samsung T528G, but it sucks for texting, and touch screen sucks too...I gotta try the new LG, and I'm not going back to contract phones...Is the LG511C really that bad?, I mean Verizon is good service towers in my area...and I don't internet that much...
ReplyDeleteI dont think its is. I love my phone!
DeleteI just bought the lg511 and tried to transfer my number from 1 staight talk phone to this 1 and it somehow has an invalid serial number. service rep said it wasnt scanned right so after going back to walmart where they re-scanned it i called staight talk back. Same problem so the woman politely said sorry about your luck, theres nothing they can do? doesnt make sence to me. Has anyone else had that happen?
ReplyDeleteTake it back to Walmart.
ReplyDeleteHow Do I take the callback number off this phone???
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by the callback number?
ReplyDeleteLike, when I send text messages, it has the callback or CB number on the bottom, and usually phones let you take it off, and for some reason i havent saw anywhere that will let me take it off.
ReplyDeleteI never noticed that on any of my phones. Wouldn't the callback number be your own number and also be in the from: field? What would be the point of deleting it?
ReplyDeleteI got this phone for Christmas and am loving it. I love the size of the screen, and it works great for web surfing and texting. I had little troubles getting my old number with Straight Talk and service time transferred to the new phone.
ReplyDeleteAnytime Straight talk doesn't work right after talking with reps. try calling 22890 phone usually activates right away...found out this number needed to be called after days without service..Why they all don't tell you to call this is beyond me....Can't swear this will help you but always has helped me...GOOD LUCK!!!!
ReplyDeleteVerizon is scared s---less about prepaid users having even semi-unlimited access to their data network for $45 monthly. So this unsmart phone is overpriced and underfeatured. Just MHO, after seeing this phone for sale at walmart.com for $170. Hope no one really expects to be able to browse on it.
ReplyDeleteu still want to sell your lg511c for half off price??
ReplyDeletei like the phone but i cant watch youtube videos. vido recoder is ok and pictures, didnt have problems tranfering phone numbers.. i used the bluetooth to tranfer phone numbers. the phone has some slowness with touchscreen. its ok for browsing. great for texting on slide keyboard. nice big fonts for texting and big numbers on dial pad is great.
ReplyDeleteanonymous, im interested in buyin your lg 511c phone my email is, roko@galaxycable.net
ReplyDeleteI hope that's a disposable email address :) Thousands of spambots harvest emails posted on the public web.
DeleteI am going to buy this phone...but first....I need to know what carrier it is!
ReplyDeleteIt will be on Verizon.
Deletedoes the Straight Talk Samsung R375C play videos? like youtube videos?
ReplyDeleteIf you want to get Straight Talk back just file a Complaint with the United States Department of Justice! Don't Email them you have to send your Complaint via U.S. mail!
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know where i ca find a list of CDMA phones available for straight talk? I live out i the sticks but i hate dealing with the out of control bills with Verizon!
ReplyDeleteTry this: Current Straight Talk CDMA (Verizon) phones
Deletethanks for the quick reply!
ReplyDeleteAre all these phones CDMA's because i heard that the Samaug Proclaim is not on Verizon network?
ReplyDeleteYes they are all CDMA, including the Proclaim. The LG Zip is also CDMA although it's not on the list
DeleteI have the lg optimus Q through straight talk and the service is terrible. Does anyone know of a good straight talk phone that uses verizon network? I would want to be able to check e-mails, use the web, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe Straight Talk Android phones that use Verizon are the Samsung Proclaim and LG Zip.
Deletewhat is the best straigt talk phone for prepaid but not android. DONT care the cost. i have the 528g and there was a recall on some of them. called cs and they will send a new one but i want the same characteristics as the 528g. they said the 511c is the same. IM LOST!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you like the Samsung 528G and Straight Talk will send you a new one what's wrong with that?
DeleteThe LG 511c is the only other non-Android touchscreen QWERTY slider (same form factor as the 528G) that Straight Talk has. It runs on Verizon instead of AT&T or T-Mobile but is otherwise similar.
wondering wich phone is the best that st provids. they will send a new one of my choice. dont want the android and prefer not to have a slider. want the most bang for the buck. too many problems with the 528g.
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on what your preferences are and which network works the best for you. Here are my picks for the best current non-Android, non-slider Straight talk phones:
DeleteIf you like QWERTY candy bars and your coverage with the 528g was good, I recommend the LG 900G. If you want the Verizon network the Samsung R355C is an OK choice.
For a touchscreen w/o keyboard the LG 800G is the only current choice that I recommend.
Good flip phones include the LG 220C, LG 231C and Motorola W418G.
so u know if the lg 800 is better then the 511c?
ReplyDeleteThe LG 511C costs four times as much as the LG 800G so it should be better. It's not very popular due to the price but I haven't heard many complaints about it.
DeleteThe person I was replying to wanted the most bang for the buck and didn't want a slider so the LG 511c seems out of the question for them.
The LG 800G is cheap and has a lot of good features for the price. Many people love it but others can't get used to the small non-capacitive touchscreen and the way the screen locks during calls.
Personally I'm not a fan of touchscreen feature phones. I prefer non-touchscreens on non-smartphones.
and thank u for the great info
ReplyDeletesomeone give a me a good review on the lg511c!!!
ReplyDeletedoes it recieve wifi and bloothoth??
The LG511C has bluetooth but not WiFi. There are a few reviews on Amazon. Also see the comments by users on this post and at Wontek.com and PrepaidPhoneGuy.com.
DeleteThis is a great phone for everyone
