reported was coming to Boost Mobile is now official. Boost issued a press release today announcing the phone would be available on Jan. 16th at Boost Mobile exclusive retail stores, select independent wireless dealer locations across the country, and at www.boostmobile.com where it's already displayed with a "coming soon" banner . The Replenish will be priced at $99.99, making it Boost's first sub $100 phone.
The low end specs (2 MP camera with CIF (352 x 188 px) video capture, 600 MHz processor and slower EV-DO rev 0 data) are very similar to those of the $149.99 Samsung Galaxy Prevail which is a decent entry level phone. There is one unfortunate difference, the screen. Unlike the Prevail's 3.2 inch 320 x 480 px screen, the Replenish's 2.8 inch display has a resolution of 240 x320 px. In my experience that's just too low for Android, which seems to need a minimum of 320 x480 px to look good. On the other hand, the always available hardware QWERTY keyboard is a plus and the phone will ship with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). I also like that the eco-friendly phone's body is partially made of recycled plastic.
The Replenish can only be used on Boost's Monthly Android Unlimited or Daily Unlimited plans. The Monthly is $55/month initially but the plan price goes down $5 after every six on time payments until it reaches $40 after 18 payments. The Daily Unlimited Plan is $2/day charged every day whether the phone is used or not.
