AT&T Announces new $65 GoPhone Unlimited Talk and Text With 1 GB Data Plan

Today AT&T announced Monthly Unlimited with Data, a new $65/month GoPhone prepaid plan for smartphone users. The plan includes unlimited voice and domestic text and picture messaging and 1 GB of data.

The new plan means a $10/month price reduction for current customers who pay $50/month for unlimited voice and messaging plus $25/month for 1 GB of rollover data. Like all AT&T prepaid monthly plans it includes unlimited text messaging to Canada, Mexico and over 100 other countries as well as unlimited access to more than 30,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the US and more than 220,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements.

The new AT&T plan is significantly more expensive than similar unlimited plans from AT&T's own MVNOs like Straight Talk $45/month) or Red Pocket ($55/month). AT&T does offer some extra value including no extra cost international texting, Wi-Fi access, generally better customer support and the ability to purchase phones and get help at over 2300 AT&T retail locations. But for must users  the MVNOs are still a better deal.

AT&T also announced a new Android prepaid phone today, the AT&T Fusion 2  (image). It's made by Huawei and has the following specifications:
  • Battery: Capacity 1400 mAh, Talk time Up to 5 hours, Standby time Up to 14 days
  • Dimensions: 4.56 x 2.40 x 0.46 inches (116 x 61 x 12 mm)

  • Internal memory: 512MB RAM, 2GB Flash 4GB storage

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi®, BLUETOOTH® 2.1
  • Operating System: Android 2.3
  • Display: 3.5 inches, 320x480px

The inclusion of a dual core processor is a first at this price point and the 4 GB of internal memory storage memory is a plus providing, that at least a gigabyte is available to the user for app installation.

  1. or you could get t-mobile monthly 4g plan unlimited text and talk and 2g of 4g speeds for 60 or 5g of 4g speed for 70 so t-mobile is way better

    1. Keep in mind that ATT coverage is way better than T mobile

    2. Also keep in mind that AT&T caps your data. I would rather pay $5 more to get 5GB of data compared to getting 1GB. So you do the math:

$65 for unlimited talk, text, and 1GB of data
Additional data after allowance: $25 for additional 1GB of data (AT&T confirmed)

$70 for unlimited talk, text, and 5GB of data
      Additional data after allowance: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

T-Mobile may throttle data after the allowance. But I would rather accept then get ripped off by AT&T.

  2. Amen Brother.

AT&T needs to add an extra 1gb or 1.5gb to the plan and then they will see more people hopping into their bandwagon. I wonder if data credits rollover like before?

  3. That plan will piss off many of their MVNO's, since they are not really unlimited anything, they cap their minutes usage to 5K minutes, 10K text, and they also charge 25 cents for each international text, which on AT&T is free.

  4. To Jeff/Minn, in the San Francisco/bay area, Las Vegas, and Southern California, T-Mo has way better coverage that AT&T. T-Mo is using the old Cingular network that AT&T had to sell them to get FCC approval when they bought the old AT&T network.

  5. The ATT Fusion 2 has been on GoPhones' online site for at least two or three weeks.

  6. You have to wonder if they're positioning GoPhone to offer the iPhone 4 down the road. I don't need one but would probably get it just to have it.

  7. I just got the 65$ unlimited plan, but any tiem that I use data, it charges me again!!!.

DO you know what I have to do?

    1. Call AT&T, it sounds like they didn't set up the plan correctly.

  8. Att cell phone tower network in oklahoma in paralled, whats use is it to have a comnpetitor phone and plan if the data or phone does not work when outisde of the okc & tulsa metro... I bet its the same in most states, once outside a metro area, cell coverages diminishes quickly. Vs continuall coverage & service through ATT network, pft'
