Red Pocket's $59.99 Unlimited Plan with 2 GB of Data is Back

AT&T MVNO Red Pocket Mobile has reinstated their $59.99/month plan. Dubbed the MAX 2GB plan, it includes unlimited talk, text and MMS with 2 GB of data.

RedPocket offered this plan from Oct, 2011 to July 2012 when it was discontinued and replaced with a $54.99 unlimited plan with 1 GB of data.

The $59.99 plan isn't listed on the Red Pocket website's main plans page yet, but it was announced on the operator's Facebook page and is available on the Red Pocket site's Unlimited Plan Refills page. The $54.99 plan is still available as well.

This change comes after competitor America Movil removed AT&T based SIMs from their Straight Talk and NET10 online stores and instituted a 1.5 GB cap on the formerly unlimited NET10 service. America Movil was the low cost leader for AT&T MVNO service but now seems to be severely scaling back the availability of AT&T based SIMs and smartphones. I'm glad to see Red Pocket responding with a more competitive data offering of their own. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other AT&T MVNOs added 2 GB plans as well.

Here's a table listing Red Pocket's current plan lineup:

* $8.33 is the minimum monthly cost which is achieved by using a $25 top up every 90 days
** Additional data is available by adding a $10 (10 MB) or $25 (25 MB) Data Refill PIN. The additional data expires when the current monthly plan expires.

One thing I don't understand about Red Pocket's data pricing are those options to buy an additional 10 MB of data for $10 or 25 MB for $25. I can't imagine they sell very many at those crazily expensive prices. But I suspect quite a few customers would like the option to purchase an extra GB or two extra at a reasonable price of say, 1 GB for $20.

  1. According to the add on data formula of $1 per MB, to add 1GB will cost $1024......

  2. Page Plus Cellular offers unlimited talk and text with 5GB of data for 69.95.

    1. True, and T-Mobile has unlimited everything for $70. But some users need to use AT&T for coverage or device preference reasons. Red Pocket's new plan is newsworthy for being the only un-throttled 2 GB plan on the AT&T network.

  3. Good competitive move for Red Hat. Why let H20 take most of the customers who would have bought Straight Talk or Net 10?

  4. Is the H20 $60 2GB plan throttled?

    1. Yes, throttled to 128 Kbps after 500 MB.

  5. What about roaming charges?

    1. There's no roaming, Red Pocket works on the AT&T network only.

  6. I like their plans, don't like no roaming. PagePlus is still my home.

  7. Am from Wisconsin and PagePlus has huge holes in their coverage here which will get you some hefty roaming charges. Am with ATT now i think i may try this Red one...thanks

    1. If you prefer Verizon, try NextG Mobile. They have more coverage than Page Plus because they don't charge for roaming.

    2. Why would anybody pay $40/month plus about 8% taxes and get no data? Red Hat has tax included and you get 100mb fast data, something Vzw doesn't even offer. Somebody would have to be desperate for Verizon, or be under the influence of their marketing BS.

    3. There are reasons to choose one operator over another besides price. There places where Verizon has service and AT&T doesn't and vice versa. Verizon doesn't have to be more expensive either. Verizon MVNO PagePlus has unlimited talk and text and 200 MB of 3G data for $39.95

    4. All true.
This WI user switched to AT&T and is satisfied, considering Red Hat.
We still can wonder why someone in this situation would be likely to go back to Vzw with NextG Mobile, give up data and pay more.

  8. I've heard the customer service at Red Pocket is just horrible. Anyone wants to share his or her two cents.

    1. I've only had to call them once. I was talking to a rep in under a minute and he quickly fixed a data issue I was having. That was in January of this year.

    2. I recently signed up with Red Pocket and it all went smoothly including a port-in from Net10. I reached customer service very quickly twice for minor issues, mainly having to do with the lack of clear instructions and information on the website. So far I am very happy and coming from Net10 the customer service seems far, far superior.

  9. Western VA and West Virginia have big Pageplus coverage holes too. Sprint and AT&T have good coverage here.

  10. unless something just changed, StraightTalk with AT&T has "unlimited" data (2GB/mo with daily limit) unthrottled for $45+tax yes? no?

    1. Sort of. Staright talk no longer sells AT&T SIMs. Ebay sellers still have some SIMs but they are going for $50 and up.

  12. Do you know whether Black Wireless $60-2GB plan throttles speeds before 2gb? I cannot find this on their website.

    1. Black Wireless is part of Locus Telecom whose main prepaid brand is H2O. The Black Wireless plans appear to be very similar to H2O's. The H2O $60 2GB plan is throttled after 500 GB with a hard cap at 2 GB. I suspect Black's is the same but you could try calling them to see what they say.

    2. I just called, and they said they do not throttle data, that I will get 2gb of full speed data.

    3. That's good. If you end up using Black Wireless let us know how it goes. There's very little information available on this new Locus brand.

  13. Red Pocket Is Data Throttling There Customers Slow Speed.

Charging people 59.99 for 3GB Data then not allowing the customer to go above 0.12 K/B's in download speed. Unfair practice for customers who PrePaid the entire month prior expecting to get 3GB of Data instead Red Pocket is Throttling the customers.

All Android and Iphone on ALL IOS will be experiencing the issue of Data Throttle Slow Internet Speed. Straight Talk does the same thing. AT&T Has a major Lawsuit for the same thing now Red Pocket is lining up for failure as well.

If you too want to make sure your not getting Data Throttled Just Download the Speed Test App In Your App Store on your phone and start a Speed Test it's FREE.
