Sprint has added an attractive new device option to its Sprint As You Go prepaid service. Refurbished iPhone 4s are now available for $99.99 to new users who port their number from another operator.
The refurbished iPhone's full price is $399.99. Sprint is offering a $200 activation discount and a $100 Bring Your Number Savings for a net cost of $99.99. Activation on the $70 Sprint As You Go Smartphone plan is required to get the $200 discount, which is a mail in rebate. You need to port a phone number from a different operator to get the $100 discount, which is instant.
Activation discounts and the Bring You Number discount are available on other As You Go phones. With both promotions, the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE is $149.99. The Samsung Galaxy S II is also 149.99.
The As You Go service includes a several postpaid style perks that aren't included with Sprint's Boost and Virging Mobile prepaid plans, including unlimited and unthrottled data, call forwarding and off network voice, text and 1xRTT (2G) data roaming (limited to 400 minutes and 100 MB per month).
Taxes and fees are substantial with As You Go, adding between $16 and $28/month to the cost of the $70 plan. This is in contrast with most other prepaid operators, including Sprint's Boost and Virgin Mobile, which only charge applicable state and local sales tax and e911 fees.
Sprint As You Go phones and service activation are only available at Sprint retail stores, not online. The $99.99 iPhone deal ends May 9, 2013.
