    1. Nokia has a winner here. Last month, the Lumia 520 version of this phone doubled its Win8 market share world-wide, from 4.4 to 8.8%. I don't know of any Android phone that offers better hardware for the money. The LG Exceed comes close, but has the LTE radio crippled, so it is stuck on slow EVDO.

    2. Win8 market share is tiny; it doesn't take much to gain a larger market share. In math, this phenomenon is known as small number bias.

    3. Windows Phone has now surpassed Blackberry based on usage.
WP usage had jumped to 5.6% globally in April 2013, up from 3.7% in April 2012. The increase in usage has been largely attributed to the release of Windows Phone 8.
There are now more WP8 devices in use than other WP versions.
When a WP8 phone's share doubles in a month, that is a big increase, no matter what your bias is.

    4. You are being fast and loose with the numbers. First it was 8.8% global market share, now it's 5.6% global market share.

    5. That's assuming the second and fourth Anonymous comments were by the same person.

Discussions here would be a lot easier to follow if everyone would comment as Name/URL rather than Anonymous. With the Name/URL option, you don't have to use your real name, you can use any name you want and the URL is optional.

I'd really like to eliminate Anonymous comments and require everyone to at least enter a name, but with Blogger you can't do that without forcing every commenter to sign in with Google, OpenID, WordPress, etc. which I don't want to do.

  3. It is all a matter of opinion. I highly dislike windows. I tried using windows phones at Best Buy and the entire UI was not user friendly. Both Android and ios are a lot more user friednly.

    1. I used a Lumia 920 for a month and found WP8 very easy to use. I didn't like it for the same reason I don't like iOS - too locked down; no file system access, no installing apps except from the Windows Store which has a lot of restrictions, like no alternate browser engines and no GPL apps. But ease of use was never an issue, if anything WP8 is even more noob friendly than iOS.

  4. Dennis: Optimus Exceed is $99.99 on verizonwireless.com. For some reason practically prepaid phones and mifi 5510L are cheaper at Verizon's website versus Walmart. I don't know if Verizon will fx this, but they are being aggressive on the prices as of ne.

    Cheers.

  5. The Ting blog reports Sprint will introduce two Windows Phone 8 models late next month, and Ting is in final negotiations to sell them at the same time. HTC 'Tiara' (code) and Samsung device will both support LTE. The Samsung is expected to have an unlocked GSM slot for international use.

    1. It's only offered in GSM5 (T-Mobile) markets. If T-Mobile is good in your area go to www.tracfone-orders.com/bpdirect/tracfone/Start.do?action=view&market=GSM5 to see and order it.

    1. BB10 doesn't need BIS so any GSM SIM will work. "Best" depends on how many minutes, texts and MBs of data you need as well as on which networks work well where you will use your phone.

    2. That's what I thought. Minutes are not important but data and sms should be unlimited. What do u think is good? If virgin Mobile had sims that 35 plan would be perfect. Thanks

  8. @Jeff u should get the t-mobile $30 plan, 100mins, unlimited text, and 5gbs of data, or u could go for the $70 plan with unlimited everything and unlimited data I think.

    1. I agree those are the best options for Jeff if T-Mobile has 3G or better in the areas he needs to use the phone. If he needs AT&T coverage the new $60 2GB plan with 1GB $10 add-on data packages that AT&T is launching on June 21 is probably the best option.

    2. appreciate the input...you guys all anti straight talk here? i have an att ST sim and they have 45 for "all"

    3. Straight Talk is fine as long as you don't hit their hidden data cap. I don't like that they claim to offer unlimited data and then arbitrarily cap and throttle it with no warning or explanation.

It's a good choice for users who need lots of voice minutes and/or texts but don't really need much more than a gigabyte of data per month.

    4. i hear ya about ST. i am going to first test that i can get bis service to work without an official bis plan. tmobile 30 may be the way to go as data is more important than voice..gotta ask my sis what voice works best by her. if she says att is better than tmo then i guess it can wait till the 21st

  9. Hi dennis. Im looking for a phonr for my mom. She wants a basic phone with no touch screen. Receotion is extremely important because we have terrible signal. Call quality and battery life must be good also. She will not be texting, and wants a small convenient phone. She also wants it to have a low sar rating, as she fears cells phones cause cancer What do you recommend, as i lnow that you are an expert on phones. Is the sony w760a any good? We are on tmobile, and im guessing that the 3g network would be better than 2g because 2g is being shut down soon? Is that right?

    1. I bought our Mom and Dad Doro 410. You can get them at Sears or online. There is a newer 610 version but it is more expensive, heavier and battery does not last as long. These phones were designed in Sweden for Sr. citizens and is very easy to use. Reception and speakers are excellent. Big buttons. Flip open to answer, close to hang up. You can also simplify the Menu to eliminate things that might confuse your Mom. Low SAR, great battery life. Big red emergency button on the back calls any number you set.
There are other senior phones out there like EZone and variants of this phone that are awful. Cheap, very distorted sound in ear speaker. Test before you buy on of those.

Doro are set up for AT&T, but you could fix that using this website:
