Ended? Virgin Mobile $70 Account Credit Promotion For New Customers Extended Until Sept. 9th

Virgin Mobile has extended their $70 Account Bonus promotion through Sept. 9th. The promotion was originally scheduled to end yesterday. It gives new Virgin Mobile customers a $70 account credit if they buy any Beyond Talk Phone and activate it on a new line of service by Sept. 9th.

Update: Aug. 30, 2013: Virgin Mobile appears to have ended this offer early.  It's no longer advertised on the Virgin Mobile site and readers are reporting that Virgin Mobile customer support reps are saying the offer has ended.

Beyond Talk phones start at $39.99 for the PCD Venture or PCD Chaser Android phones. iPhones and high end Android LTE models like the Samsung Galaxy S III are also available.

Plans start at $35/month for unlimited messaging and data (throttled after 2.5 GB) and 300 voice minutes, so the $70 credit is enough to pay for up to two months of service.

The promotion is not available to existing customers but I don't see any reason why a current customer who doesn't mind losing their number couldn't buy and activate a new phone on a new number and then cancel their old number.

Terms of the offer are as follows:
  • Account bonus applied toward any new Beyond Talk account within 30 days of successful activation and Top-Up by Sept. 9, 2013.
  • Bonus may not be exchanged/redeemed for cash or merchandise or combined with other offers/promotions.
  • Limit of one account bonus redemption per new account.
  • Valid on new Beyond Talk device purchased and activated at virginmobileusa.com.
  • Existing Virgin Mobile customers or accounts not eligible for promotion.
  • Virgin Mobile reserves the right to modify, extend or cancel this offer at any time.
  • Services subject to additional terms, restrictions and other conditions.

  1. This is a better deal than the one VM was offerring with the Samsung S3. With this promo, it applies to more phones AND many of the phones are being discounted. Even the Samsung Ring has a 15% discount despite the fact it was recently released. Besides the F3 or iPhone 5, practically all the phones has some form of a discount besides the $70 bribe.

  2. Just curious, why don't you set your links to open in a new page so people don't get taken away from your site? Most do it that way to avoid losing readers or customers.

    1. For the same reason I don't disable the browser back button or use pop-up or interstitial ads. They are all anti-user, anti-web techniques that are intended to increase site revenue at the expense of usability. If the user wants to open a link in a new tab or new window they can.

    2. To reach a human at Virgin Mobile call 888-322-1122 enter your phone number when prompted, then press 4, then press 2.

If the phone support is unwilling or unable to help, email the Virgin Mobile social media team at saveme@thevirginangels.com

    3. try pressing zero repeatedly after each prompt, you'll get a human.

    4. I bought my phone on August 27th and when I called VM to ask about my credit, they said my Optimus f3 didn't qualify for the credit. Wat????? It's why I bought the phone!!!! I said yes it did! Here it is, 10/4/2013 and still nothing - they refuse to even listen to me! I bought 2 of the same phones - two new accounts - NO credit! I'm very disappointed and upset!

    5. That's crazy. The rebate was supposed to be good on any Beyond Talk phone. Report the issue on Virgin's Facebook page. That seems to get better results than calling.

    6. I am currently dealing with VM on this exact same issue. They say that the promo was not extended and they refuse to apply the $70 to my account. Not to mention I have had issues with lack of data and even after 2 weeks, cannot get incoming calls. Support says that the phone be fine if I can text and make outgoing calls and refuse to do anything. This is beyond frustrating. I am going to send the phone back and my bank is reversing the charge, due to the lemon law. VM loss, guess time for a new carrier :)

    7. I bought my S3 specifically because of this promo, yet they said that the extended promo dates did not apply to my phone. I do wish I had know that they would refuse to honor their own promo. I would have purchased elsewhere. On top of that the data is only working 20% of the time, no incoming calls at all in 2 weeks. Yet, they say WAD since I am able to place outgoing calls and text, wtf? lol

  4. So it's website owner's who block the back button? that is so obnoxious and annoying, I avoid those when possible.

    1. To me blocking the back button is the second most annoying thing bad web designers do. Even worse are floating ads or share to Twitter, Facebook, etc. buttons that cover up the main content when using some sites in mobile browsers

    1. I'm a pay as you go customer and I called them to see if I might qualify for the promotion since I'm not a Beyond Talk customer. Nope. I would have to set up the account under a completely different name. She also said I couldn't have EVER been a VM customer. And forget keeping my phone number.

I honestly don't know why they're limiting it this way. Because here I am I trying to upgrade from a almost-nothing plan to a real one and I'm so upset about this (and their truly lousy customer service overall) that I'm likely to jump ship.

Of course, if I leave, I lose all the money in my pay as you go account. That's only $14 fortunately but, if my husband wants to switch, he loses well over $100. If you upgrade your plan you do get to use the money in the account towards that.

    2. VM is trying to capture customers from their competitors, and they are willing to pay for them. Why should they pay you to stay, when they already have your two accounts (from their point of view).
If you switch, you will have to buy another phone unless you have a spare, non-Virgin phone.
Their records probably are not good enough to record EVERY past VM customer, especially if someone's address and phone number are different now.

    3. If you like your Sprint coverage and have an extra Sprint phone, I suggest Eco Mobile. They can activate almost all Sprint phones that have a 'clean ESN.' They charge a minimum $10/month for prepaid, but offer low rates of 5c/minute, 2c/text and 10c/mb of data. They charge data in tiny increments, so you will actually pay less than other companies which advertise lower rates but round up each data session. You will have detailed, online call, txt and data records.

    4. If you really want to keep VM, order the phone with a (trusted) relative's name and address. After you get the phone activated and the online account set up, edit the name, address and credit card (if autopay) to yours.

    5. Thanks for the replies. I get that they're paying to attract new customers but I'm going to be buying a new phone (current one is super cheap dumb phone and I need to give it to my husband because he lost his) and moving from a plan that costs very little to a monthly payment one. So I'm almost like a new customer.

Anyone happen to know if new deals are coming down the pipeline? I really don't want to lose my phone number so I don't see any way to get the current deal.

Thanks for the Eco Mobile info but it's actually more expensive than VM for what I want.

    6. No, you should port out now. You have to buy a new phone anyway, and have a low balance. You can do better overall on PagePlus, Selectel, AirVoice or MetroPCS.

  6. I just wanted to say that about 2 weeks ago or so I bought one of their phones switching from Boost. I didnt even know about the the summer special. Well I just got atext saying they credited me $70, so I looked at my account and they actually did. So it was like getting a free phone and months of service. That was nice.

  8. They chatted with me and said the Sept 9th date was the activation date and that the offer is over.

    1. The offer's terms just say the phone had to be activated by Sept 9, nothing about an earlier purchase by date.. Are they now saying the phone had to be purchased before a certain date?

The terms also say "Virgin Mobile reserves the right to modify, extend or cancel this offer at any time." so they can cancel it at will. It seems strange that they would do that after publishing the Sept 9 date.

    2. They said Sept 9 was not the offer end date but that the phone had to be activated by that date. There is no current account opening credit offer.

  9. i got the same story...offer has ended. they said offers can end at anytime, i should have bought it when i first saw it. Sept 9 was the activation date, so i figured I had until then to decide on a phone. Then the rep told me I was not approaching this professionally and hung up on me!!! Now i am glad i didn't buy it.....rude company! And obviously does not stand by their word!!

  10. I called today. They said that the $70 would be put on my account within 30 days of my activation/top-up (the 28th). They then said that if it wasn't put on by
    then to call them back.

  12. Bought phones online on 08/15 and activated when they arrived on 08/19. Called today to check on it since nothing is mentioned on my online account anywhere about the deal. I was first told it was only for the Iphone. After insisting it was also for our LG and Samsung, he then said I did not qualify because we ported our numbers in from T-mobile. I then insisted the legal disclaimer advertising it said no such thing just that it was good with new Virgin mobile account, which it is. I was with T-mobile last month and now I am with Virgin, hence a new account! We went around and around over this and he said it was because we ported our numbers in. After repeatedly asking for a manager 3-4 times I was put on hold so he could "look for a supervisor." After about 5 minutes he came back on and said he was still looking. Five minutes later he came back and finally agreed that I qualified for the $70 credit! DUH! It was to be noted in my account and it could take up to 30 days (which I knew) and he said I would receive a text when it was applied to my account. He then said after 30 days if I do not receive, call back. Seriously? I am totally not improved with Virgin mobile customer service thus far!

  13. I TOO HAVE BEEN SCAMMED BY WHAT USED TO BE SUCH A RAD PREPAID COMPANY.
IT STARTED A MONTH AGO, I WOULD COMPLETELY ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROMOTION AND EVERY TIME I CALL 611 I WAS PROMISED IT WOULD BE ON MY ACCOUNT BY SEPT. 5. THE 6TH-MY PHONE IS DISCONNECTED. I CALL 611 AND STILL AM PROMISED THIS $70 AND EVEN TOLD TO NOT WORRY ABOUT A TOP UP CARD.

EVERYDAY A NEW "CLAIM" WAS FILED BY THE LIVE ADVISOR AND IF I MADE A 2ND CALL THAT DAY, A SUPERVISOR WOULD "EMAIL TO ESCALATE THE SITUATION".
DURING THE 3 DAYS OF NO SERVICE, MY MOTHER PASSED AND I COULDNT EVEN SEE HER BEFORE DUE TO MY PHONE SERVICE, EVEN THOUGH I WAS PROMISED AND PROMISED THIS GHOST $70.
CALLED BACK TODAY AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CLAIMS FILED AND THAT I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROMO AT ALL. I BROKE IT DOWN PIECE BY PIECE AND EVEN REFEREED TO THIS PAGE, EVEN AFTER PROVING I WAS INDEED ELIGIBLE, THEY SAID NO.

    I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS.......
SHAME ON VIRGIN MOBILE, THEY USED TO BE FLY AS HELL!

    WAH WAH WAAAAAH

  14. Just a note about the $70 credit - the rep told me the same as noted above - that the offer did not apply to ported numbers. I explained that this was not noted anywhere under the terms - which stated that you had to activate a new account by September 9, 2013. Also, the phone had to be purchased and activated on-line through their website, which mine was. I was placed on hold for about 5 minutes, and the rep came back and said that it will apply. My billing cycle ends on Sept. 27 - she said if it is not credited by then to call back. So I'm in waiting mode right now. We'll see....

  19. I was a new customer to boot and I bought a phone and went on auto pay through PayPal but after paying for Sept. I was trying to find out why I wasn't being billed for Oct. and Nov. but it was showing as paid, turns out the $70 credit was added in as cash balance and applied to the bill monthly. I did not know anything about this deal when I purchased this phone I just got the phone at the right time.
