Deal: Recertified Motorola Droid X For Page Plus, Other Verizon MVNOs $59.99 With Free Shipping and 90 day Warantty

It's not easy finding good phones that will work on Page Plus or other Verizon MVNOs like Selectel or Straight Talk CDMA. Verizon blocks the activation of all LTE capable phones as well as any phone sold as a Verizon prepaid phone. That limits MVNO users primarily to Verizon used phones from Ebay and used phone sellers like MobileKarma  and CowBoom.

From now on, whenever I find a good deal on a Verizon MVNO compatible phone or an unlocked GSM phone I'm going to post it here to here for Prepaid Phone News readers. Today's find is from deals site Ice Monkey, which is part of the better known DailySteals.com. It's a "recertified" Motorola Droid X for $59.99 with free shipping, a 90 day warranty and no taxes except for New York residents. That's about what the used Droid X typically goes for on Ebay where returns are generally limited to 14 days. The deal is good "until sold out".

The Droid X is one of the most popular Android phones among Verizon MVNO users thanks to its big, bright 4.3" 540x960px screen, decent 8 MP camera with flash and 720p video and its quality construction. It was a flagship phone when it launched on Verizon in 2010 with an off-contract price of $549.99. The Droid X uses a 1 Mhz single core processor and has 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. It supports SD cards up to 32 GB. It's officially upgradable to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

    1. 1. You don't know who "recertified" the device or how the device was recertified. For example, if you buy a recertified Apple product, it comes with a new battery and screen.

      2. Verizon's prepaid smartphones are competitive with PP when comes to unlimited talk / text plans. Btw, Target is selling brand new Exceeds under $90.

  2. It comes with Android 2.1, upgrading to 2.3.5 requires it be done over the data connection (won't work over Wifi).

On PagePlus PayGo that's going to cost you a few bucks.

  3. I have a droid 2 which I upgraded over wifi on the PP 12 dollar plan - I did use a bit of data to test the phone. Why is this one different than the droid 2? Y

    1. If you mean about not being able to update to Gingerbread over WiFi, I don't know if that's true or not. Even if it is true, Droid X Gingerbread update.zip files are available online. They can be copied to the SD card and installed manually.

  4. On the same website, the Droid Bionic is going for $75. Again, same deal as Droid X -- both are recertified and comes with 90 day warranty.

    1. That's a goodprice for the Bionic too. Howver as an LTE phone it requires flashing to work on Verizon MVNOs. It's supposed to be one of the easier LTE phones to flash.

  5. If this phone comes with pre-installed bloatware (I assume it does), is there a way to remove it?

Any links to sites that tell how would be appreciated.

    1. There's bloatware though not as much as on newer phones. You need to root the phone and install an app like Titanium Backup or Gemini App Manager. See: What You Need To Know About Removing Android Bloatware for a good overview of the process.

  6. Dailysteals.com are very dishonest. Forget about their return policy. They market used electronics as refurbished or recertified. Sometimes their merchandise works and sometimes it doesnt. Either way you are stuck with it. If you must buy from them, purchase through Dailysteals Ebay store where you have some protection and use a credit card that offers protection on purchases like Amex.

    1. I like these suggestions. I bought new products from Dailysteals and did not have a problem. Next time I will use eBay and a credit card that extends the warranty on refurbished products (if possible). Gotta get out the magnifying glass again....

  8. Thank you so much for posting info on phones that will work with Page Plus. I've decided to switch over in October, when my Verizon contract expires. It will be hard not to get the latest and greatest new phone at Verizon, but have hopes that more and more phone options will be available for Page Plus.

    1. Betty, as a Virgin Mobile CDMA (yuck!) phone user, I'm just waiting for the right-priced great GSM phone to purchase OFF-CONTRACT...Then I'll take that phone to a T-Mobile MVNO, which ( I believe ) has the best pricing... Unlike CDMA phones ( think VERIZON & SPRINT & their affiliated MVNOs ) , with GSM phones ( think T-Mobile, At&T, & their affiliated MVNOs ) you have SO MUCH more options to choose from...I would go with a GSM phone & a GSM-based B(ring)Y(our)O(wn)D(device) MVNO...

  9. I had Page plus when I didn't use as much data, and I loved it, awesome Verizon coverage and cust service. I'm temepted to go back and just get the $55 plan and enjoy verizon again.

  10. Can this phone be used on verizon's own prepaid?

  11. Anybody by one of these phones from Ice Monkey?

If so, how used looking is it?

  12. Most any current 4g/let phone can be activated on page plus. The phone will require a flash to work. Phones include Sprint and Verizon galaxy series and HTC devices. You don't have to settle for an old phone just to be able to use page plus.
