IPhone 5S and 5C Coming to Virgin Mobile USA Oct 1

Virgin Mobile took to Twitter and Facebook today to announce that the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C would be available on Virgin starting Oct. 1. No prices were mentioned.

Based on Virgin's current pricing for last years iPhones, I expect that the 5S 16GB will replace the iPhone 5 in Virgin's lineup at $549.99.  The 5C 16 GB will likely be $449.99,  with the 4S dropping to $349.99. The iPhone 4, which Virgin is currently selling at the close out price of $199.99, will be dropped from the Virgin Mobile lineup once current inventory is sold out.

The iPhone 5S is Apple's newest flagship. It retains the metal and glass body and 4 inch screen of the iPhone 5 but has a faster processor, better camera and a new finger print sensor that lets lock and unlock the phone with a single touch. The iPhone 5C is essentially the iPhone 5 in with a sleek plastic body that's available in your choice of white, yellow, pink, blue or green.

The iPhone can be used on any of Virgin Mobile's Beyond Talk plans (listed below) which start at $35/month or $30/month if you enroll in auto-pay.

    1. It could be $649.99 however the 16GB iPhone 5 was $549.99 when Virgin released it on June 28. See IPhone 5 Coming to Virgin Mobile USA June 28 for $549.99.

    1. They did with the iPhone 5 etc. Unlike iPhones from Apple, Virgin's are very difficult to use on any other operator. Virgin subsidies their phones and makes the subsidy back on recurring plan revenue.

Of course they could charge the full $649 etc. We will know in 4 days.

  4. Derek has left a new comment on your post "IPhone 5S and 5C Coming to Virgin Mobile USA Oct 1...":

I'm waiting for my T-Mobile unlocked to ship from Apple. I may go for this one. $5 auto refill credit is a good idea.

Do you think a Virgin Mobile iPhone has a lower resale value? If so, by how much?

    1. Ebay Buy It Now prices for Virgin Mobile iPhones seem to be as high or higher than prices for unlocked GSM ones.

    2. Great time for me. I just bought a Straight Talk LTE sim, and an unlocked iPhone from Apple. Now I get this news. I'll try to land a Gold one with Virgin, to avoid the wait. This site is the best.

  5. The iphone 5s and 5c were released only a week ago. This mite make some Virgin Mobile customers happy. But, it kind of makes you wonder if Sprint is putting this phone on its prepaid brand less than two weeks after release of it; Sprint's postpaid brand must not of sold that many iphone 5s' and 5c's. The iphone 5 was just released a few short months ago on Virgin Mobile and we all know the newest models of flagship devices usually don't come to subsidiaries, mvnos, or regional carriers until months later. This is highly unusual by Sprint.

  6. Attractive phones are useless if their network is horrible. I switched to VM almost two years ago. Started with an Optimus V and was very happy. Then I switched to iPhone 4s last year when it came out. After I spent $649 + tax for it, VM claimed that they were "upgrading the towers" around me, and that became a downgrade for me. I can't even make decent calls in my own house anymore. I go shopping and I haven't found a store where I can receive a decent signal inside. And I live in the middle of the DFW metroplex so you'll expect them to do a better job to win customers in highly populated areas. Nope. I am looking into Aio now even though I'll pay a bit more, but at least I can get working networks. I know 4s is on 3G and 5s/5c are on LTE so it might be different, but I have no confidence to try again. An iphone is a lot of money. And with the phone locked to VM I have to sell the phone to switch networks. This really makes it a horrible experience.

    1. My 4-Step Process for leaving Virgin with my number:
      1. Call CS. Navigate the tree to talk to a human. Give them your name, number and 6 digit PIN. Explain that you want to port out and need the info VM will require to release your number. Explain why you have to leave VM. Wait on hold while they ask a supervisor.
      2. Talk to the porting department. They will ask for your name, number and PIN again, but will not answer your question. They tell you there is no port-out request pending. Wait on hold while they transfer you to "Customer Care."
      3. C.C. will ask for your name, number and PIN again, and finally tell you that you will need your VM account number. They will not give you that number. They also want to know why you are leaving. Repeat your answer. Wait on hold while they transfer you to the "Audit Dept," or that is what I think I heard (heavy accent).
      4. Speak to the "Audit Dept" and give them your name, number and PIN. Explain that you just want the VM account number, and any other info that VM requires to release your number to the new provider. Answer again why you need to leave VM. Tell them no, you do not need tech support re the dropped calls, or the maintenance issues caused by Network Vision upgrades that prevent connections, or the poor coverage when you are outside town, and on certain corners in town. You do not want some free VM service, or a new phone. You just want your account number and any other info that VM requires to release your number.
You will eventually get your account number at the end of their whole pitch. Mine is a 9 digit number that appears nowhere in my online account or activation paperwork. If you ask 2 or 3 more times, they will admit that yes, you need to provide your VM PIN with the port request.

Allow about 45 minutes for this process, especially if you get fast talkers who may have to repeat things in order for you to understand what they are saying.

      A better way?
When you call CS, just ask for your VM account number. You do NOT want to talk to the porting department. You ONLY want the VM account number so you can REQUEST a port. You have NOT requested the port YET. You could try to ask for the Audit Dept if CS claims they do not know where to get your account number. I think the Audit Dept may really be the "Retention Dept." based on the pitch they give you.
If anyone else knows a faster way to get the VM account number, please post it here to help others avoid the 4-Step.

  7. Sprint is in bad shape financially. Who knows what direction they are going to go. They are kind of ripe to be taken over by a carrier like T-Mobile.

  8. Sprint is in great shape financially, with new $Billions from SoftBank, their new owner. Tmobile would like to MERGE with them, but SoftBank just paid $billions for Sprint, which just bought Clearwire, so it would be up to them. Don't hold your breath. The feds would be skeptical about the reduced competition.

  9. I agree with Anonymous1 -- Recently Sprint got lot of cash from Japan VC and recently on cable TV (Mad Money Cramer ?) had Sprint CEO and talk about expanding $G LTE

  10. I wonder if they will be available to ship tomorrow...or if they are just taking orders?

Anyone know what time they will go on sale?

CNET says they've confirmed pricing with Virgin Mobile...it's in line what Dennis mentioned above
