Ultra Mobile Doubles the 4G Data Included With Its $59 Plan

T-Mobile MVNO Ultra Mobile is increasing the among of high speed HSPA+ 4G data included with its $59 plan from 2 GB to 4 GB effective tomorrow Sept 25, 2013.

In addition Ultra is doubling its throttled data speed on the $59 Plan from 128 Kbps to 256 Kbps. After you reach the 4 GB limit data speeds are reduced to the throttled speed for the rest of the plan month.

It's not all good news, however. The international call credit included with the $59 plan is being cut from $20 to $5. As partial compensation for the reduced international credit, Ultra will be giving all current $59 plan subscribers a one time Ultra Wallet bonus of $20 on Sept 25. Funds in the Ultra Wallet do not expire and can be used for international calling and to buy additional high speed data at the rate of $5 for 250 MB.

The added data and reduced international credit will take effect immediately for new activations and with the next plan renewal for current subscribers.

There are no changes to other plans and the $59 plan still includes all of Ultra's other international features including:
  • Ultra Zero - 1000 free minutes of international calling to  mobile phones and landlines  in Canada, China/Hong Kong, Singapore and to landlines only in Mexico and the United Kingdom
  • International direct dialing
  • Unlimited free international texts to 190 countries with all plans
  • Low international voice rates. The per minute price for calls to mobile phones in India is 1¢,  Mexico - 3¢, UK - 5¢ and Philippines 13¢
  • "Call Me Free", a no extra charge service that provides local access numbers in 40 countries that non-US family members and friends can use to call Ultra customers for the price of a local call.
Here's a table listing Ultra's revised plan lineup:

  1. This pretty much completes the improvements made in Ultra Mobile round out its previous improvements which were aimed at its $29 and $39 plans which received more data allotments a couple of weeks ago. Spot Mobile and Simple have also had lineup revamps. There are still a number of Tmobile mvnos and prepaid divisions with no changes , notably Ptel and GoSmart. Hopefully, they will get some data boosts too.

  2. Isn't the $30 T-mobile plan(100 minutes and 5 gigs) better than any T-Mobile MVNO? And 2 questions about that plan...is that a flat $30 or are there taxes and fees in addition? And...now that the direct link has been removed from the main page...how do you find it?

    1. Scroll down a bit and click on the "shop plans" under the "pay-in-advance plans" banner box. From there it'll take you to the prepaid plans.

The $30 is great if you don't talk much (even though you're charged 10cents/minute after you go over your 100 min..so you can always add extra money to cover that. I keep $20 extra in my account just in case). Setting up VoIP isn't hard, but it's not for everyone.

    2. The $30 plan does have additional taxes. But you can buy from Callingmart or some place similar to avoid the extra charges. If you have a strong signal in your area mVoIP isn't too bad. It works well for me as long as I'm not in a moving vehicle. I've found that Skype works well on 3g also.

  3. Unless you need the international features of Ultra on the $59 price point it is better to go with Metro for $60.
