Android Phones Now Available on the TracFone Website.

The first of TracFone's new Android phones have finally made their appearance on the TracFone site. They are the Samsung Galaxy Centura and the ZTE Valet, which are the same two phones that  have been available for a couple of weeks from HSN and ShopCellDeal's Ebay store. They are the:

ZTE Valet Z665C $99.99 which runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a 3.5 inch 320x 480 px screen, 1 Ghz single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of total internal memory and a 3 MP fixed focus camera with flash. You can view the Valet's tutorial and manual on the TracFone site

Samsung Galaxy Centura S738C, $119.99. It has a 3.5 inch 320x 480 px screen, 800 Mhz single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of total internal memory (2.8 GB available to user) and a 3 MP fixed focus camera without flash. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Centuta's tutorial and manual are also online.

Both TracFone Android phones use the Verizon network. Shipping is free from the TracFone site and you can use the promo code FRIEND1 to get 5 off the price of either phone.

There's a better deal at Ebay storefront ShopCellDeals which is selling both phones for less with prices of:
  • $89.99 for the  ZTE Valet or $119.99 for the phone with $39.99 worth of airtime (600 minutes, 600 texts and 600 MB included
  • $109.99 for the Samsung Galaxy Centura phone or $129.99 for the phone with with 600 minutes, 600 texts and 600 MB of data included
Shipping is free from ShopCellDeals and there's no sales tax in most states.

The TracFone Android phones use a new "triple-triple" billing system with separate buckets for minutes, texts and data. When you add an airtime card its face value is tripled and then the tripled value gets added to all three buckets. For example, a $19.99 60 minute card gives you 180 minutes, plus 180 texts plus 180 MB of data.

If you replace an existing TracFone on your account the minutes in the account get added as the equivalent number of minutes, texts and data. So if you had TracFone feature phone with 200 minutes on it and you replaced it with an Android phone you would end up with 200 minutes, 200 texts amd 200 MBs of data.

The new TracFone Android phones are pretty basic but their service pricing is a great deal and the most exciting thing to happen to TracFone in years.

  1. The new Tracfone smartphone paygo plan includes more data for the money than Selectel's annual plan with Flex card. I wonder if the triplex3 system will stay around, or whether they will make it less generous. Once they sell higher-spec phones, this will be an even better source, at least for folks who do not need BYOD.

  2. I like the plans but hate all 4 phones they plan to release. I use my phone as a phone. A 1 year card and a 2GB data card is all I need. Straight Talk seems to be getting all there new Verizon smartphones from ZTE and Huawei. Not good. So I can see Tracfone doing the same thing.

  3. Do these plans roll over?

  4. Way off topic, but your site is hard to use due to throwing constant script error popups. Could you guys take the effort to fix the invalid Javascript code that causes this and make the site so it isn't an ordeal to use? I understand popups that have ads, but popups that contain cryptic errors that are generated from bad coding help no-one.

    1. The site works without error for me in current versions on Chrome, Firefox and Opera. What browser and OS are you using?

  5. IE..... Firefox might be the alternative to try. Chrome is not an option as it is crippled (missing a search box). Last time I tried Opera, few pages rendered correctly on it. I will try Firefox though. Thanks!

    1. Hm, I just tested the site in IE10. No popups and no errors. It sounds like you might have script debugging turned on under Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
"Disable script debugging" should be checked
"Display a notification about every error" should be unchecked.

For Chrome Ctrl + F opens up the search box.

  6. Dennis: Do you recommend buying a double minutes card for these handsets?

    1. They are already triple minutes phones. A double minutes card wouldn't do anything useful.

  7. They're a bit overpriced. I'd say get a Tracfone touch screen feature phone till the prices drop . You can get them for under $20 on their website.

    2. The Samsung Galaxy Centura seems to be the better one. Several users have reported issues with the ZTE's WiFi not connecting or not staying connected.

  8. I just bought a tracphone and minutes. How do I call a Canadian number? please use detail as I am not used to this newfangled thing. Thank-you in advance. I am in Arizona at the moment.

  9. Dial the access number 1-800-706-3839 (from Alaska, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands dial 305-938-5673 instead).

You will then be prompted to select your language and dial 011 plus the country code, city code, and phone number. (For Canada just dial: 1 + phone number).

If you are a new customer, buy, activate, and add airtime to your new TRACFONE, and the TRACFONE International Long Distance service will be automatically available after 48 business hours.

  10. How about using the Skype app for outgoing calls (or the Vonage app if you have an account)? Wouldn't this cut down on the expenses, especially over a Wi-Fi connection?

  11. Do you recommend getting an antivirus program like Avast for a Tracfone Galaxy Centura? If so, are there any known incompatibilities that I'll need to deal with? And if so, how? Thanks.

  12. How would sending a picture text be charged?

    1. I believe a picture message counts as a text plus the amount of data consumed.

  13. Excuse my ignorance but can I send and receive emails with these types of phones?

  14. Your customer service STINKS ! Tried to order more time for my tracphone and couldn't
talk to anyone. Guess I'll have to get a new provider. You offered me prices to high with
    no options to provide the promo codes you gave me for a discount. I can't believe with such poor customer service you remain in business. -Pete Mazzei phone-[number removed}

    1. I don't know where you think you are posting but this site is not affiliated with TracFone. I've removed your phone number for your protection.
