Still Available: RingPlus $12.99 Unlimited Plan With International Calling to 100 Countries

Sprint MVNO RingPlus has reopened their $12.99 unlimited plan promotion.

As before the plans will include a limited number of international calling minutes but RingPlus has increased the number of countries you can call from three to 100. There's a list of the new international destinations in this SlickDeals Forum post by RingPlus' CEO.

The unlimited plan promotion is open to a limited number of users. When these plans were first offered last week they sold out in about 12 hours. They will probably go even faster this time. Anyone who  manages to sign up for the promotional plans will be able to keep them indefinitely.

Update: As of 11/6 the promotional plans are still available.

There are three plans:
  • BYOSD-Richard: $12.99 + taxes, Unlimited Voice, 50 SMS US & International, 10 MB Data, 50 Free International Minutes to 100 countries
  • BYOSD-Lina: $14.99 + taxes, Unlimited Voice, Unlimited SMS US & International, 50 MB Data, 150 Free International Minutes to 100 countries
  • BYOSD-Noelani: $17.99 + taxes, Unlimited Voice, Unlimited SMS US & International, 300 MB Data, 250 Free International Minutes to 100 countries
Additional data is 2¢/MB on all three plans. Additional texts on the $12.99 plan are 2¢ each.

RingPlus doesn't currently sell phones. You must supply your own Sprint phone. RingPlus can activate clean ESN Sprint phones with the exception of iPhones, BlackBerrys and Palm Treos. Only Sprint branded phones can be activated. Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Verizon, Cricket, etc. phones will not work. You can check now if your phone is eligible at https://my.ringplus.net/device_validation_requests/new

You will need to how to activate your phone. The procedure varies depending on the phone make and model. With many devices you just do a factory reset and the phone will initiate hands free activation automatically. Other phones, especially older ones, may require manual programming. RingPlus will supply you with the MSL and MSID codes needed for programming but you're on your own with the actual programing.

  1. Didn't RngPlus sell phones, when they 1st started the Free 300 plan? I swear I saw phones for sale on their site then.

Additional texts on the $12.99 plan are 2¢ each (not the other two plans).

    1. No taxes for the first month. After the first month taxes will be charged but RingPlus hasn't said how much they will be.

  4. if you live in a sprint area this is probably a good deal even for an emergency phone. Just wished it was tax free like red pocket or airvoice

Does anyone know if RingPlus routes voice over cellular or VOIP? I doubt Sprint's 3G network is fast enough for satisfactory VOIP service.

    1. The connection between the phone and tower is traditional cellular voice. Otherwise feature phones wouldn't work on RingPlus and they do.

There maybe some VOIP routing once the call gets into the Sprint network infrastructure, particularly for international calls, but that's not going to be affected by cellular network speed.

    1. There's currently no MMS on any RingPlus plan. They say they are working on adding it.
