TracFone LG Optimus Dynamic Android Phone Now Available fon QVC for $99.96 with 600 Minutes, 600 Texts and 600 MB

Another of TracFone's new Android phones is now available. It's the LG Optimus Dynamic L38C which is now available on QVC.com for $99.96 with a free gel skin and 600 Minutes, 600 texts and 600 MB good for 90 days. The Dynamic lists for $99.99, the included airtime is worth $39.99 so the deal represents a $40 savings.

99.96 is a sale price good until midnight 10/24, Pacific Time. QVC's regular price for the bundle is $121.

Update 10/25: QVC's price for the Optimus Dynamic with 600 Minutes, 600 texts and 600 MB is now $109.66 with free shipping.

The LG Dynamic (tutorial and manual) has the worst specs of Android's TracFones with its 3.2 inch 320 x240 px screen, 800 Mhz processor, 512 MB RAM, 3 MB total internal memory and a 3 MP fixed focus camera without flash.  It runs the old Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

Given the Dynamic's low res screen and ancient OS, I recommend passing on this deal. There are better deals on a couple of better TracFone Android phones:

The ZTE Valet (tutorial and manual) runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a  3.5 inch 320x 480 px screen, 1 Ghz single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of total internal memory and a 3 MP fixed focus camera with flash.  It lists for $99.99 without airtime, and is on sale at ShopCellDeals and HSN for $99.99 with 600 minutes, 600 texts and 600 MB of data. ShopCellDeals also has the Valet for $89.99 without airtime.

The Samsung Galaxy Centura (tutorial and manual) has a 3.5 inch 320x 480 px screen, 800 Mhz single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of total internal memory (2.8 GB available to user) and a 3 MP fixed focus camera without flash. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and retails for $119.99 without airtime.  ShopCellDeals has the Centura on sale for $129.99 with 600 minutes, 600 texts and 600 MB of data or $109.99 without airtime.

The TracFone Android phones run on the Verizon network and use a new "triple-triple" billing system with separate buckets for minutes, texts and data. When you add an airtime card its face value is tripled and then the tripled value gets added to all three buckets. For example, a $19.99 60 minute card gives you 180 minutes, plus 180 texts plus 180 MB of data. Unused minutes, texts and data rolls over when you add airtime. That's quite a deal, especially for data. Assuming you could use all three buckets at an equal rate, the per unit price of a minute, text or MB of data ranges from 3.7ċ with the $19.99 60 minute card to 2¢ with the $79.99 450 minute card.

  2. If my current TracFone has a SIM card (and thus is either ATT or T-mobile) any idea how difficult it is to switch to Verizon? I'm assuming I'd keep all my minutes right? Is it best to call customer service or can the switch be done online?
    Thanks.

    1. The best way to transfer service and minutes an Android TracFone is by calling the automated service number 800-867-7183. You can also do it online but you can only transfer 1100 minutes (the 800 number can transfer any number of minutes) and there seem to be more issues than with the 800 number. Talking to TracFone support is something I recommend avoiding as much as possible.

  3. Stay away from the Dynamic. It only has 150MB of internal user memory free for the user. LG needs to retire this phone.
