Straight Talk Teases That It's Geting the Gold iPhone 5S

Three weeks ago references to the iPhone 5C and 5S appeared on the Straight Talk Activate Your Service page. New phones usually appear on the Straight Talk activate phone page a few weeks before they are released. But sometimes phones languish on that page for months only to disappear without ever being released.

There's now new evidence that at least the Straight Talk 5S is for real. Yesterday Straight Talk posted a picture of a gold Apple logo on their Facebook page with the words "Guess what's coming the Straight Talk". The golden color of the apple hints that the popular gold tone version of the iPhone 5S will be available from Straight Talk.

We still don't know for sure what network Straight Talk's iPhone 5C and 5S will run on (current Straight Talk iPhones use Verizon) or what they will cost. But based on past experience, I expect that the 5C and 5S will be priced at full retail, $549.99 for the 16GB 5C and $649.99 for the 5S and that the carrier will be Verizon with access to 4G LTE blocked just as it is on the Straight Talk iPhone 5.

Update: Straight Talk representatives on Facebook are saying that iPhone 5S and 5C will go on sale tomorrow 12/6/2013 and that the phone will run on a GSM network and will have 4G data of some kind.

It looks like the GSM opperator may be AT&T. A user asked "Those iPhones 5c and 5S are GSM or CDMA , i mean are they gonna work of AT&T or Verizon towers ?" and Straight Talk replied "Hi! The new branded iPhone phones are under a GSM tower which you have mentioned."

  1. So Verizon will allow Straight Talk users to have a 4G LTE phone (with LTE blocked), but other MVNO's aren't allowed to activate a 4G LTE phone?

    1. The Straight Talk iPhones have LTE disabled in the phone so they are not LTE phones. Straight talk iPhones can be activated by other Verizon MVNOs like PagePlus.

    2. So could not Verizon allow LTE phones and put a LTE data limit to 0 or 1 MB, or just block the LTE data all together?

    3. I'm sure they could, but they don't.

    1. If there wasn't a market for non-alcoholic beer and crippled iPhones they wouldn't exist.

    2. I don't need 4G LTE. I also wouldn't mind a 5S that would work on my Page Plus account.

  3. You could just buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple.com for the same price and use a Straighg Talk (AT&T) sim card to get LTE.

    2. if you don't care about 4G you may very happy with the Moto G. At $178 it is also a no brainer for Verizon no contract customers

    1. I saw that. I wonder if it's T-Mobile or AT&T

    3. Sprint As you go coverage allows roaming...in my 13 years of experience with all the coverage maps they all there advantages and disadvantages...If you are in an area where sprint has good voice coverage then it will seem the greatest to you. Out of all the carriers l like t-mobile the best...Every place l go my home, my business locations, my parents house in Forida and NJ, and my son's mothers home it works flawlessly even better than at&t and verizon and l get LTE in all those places...Sprint Spark will work out good for them especially with VoLTE in 800, 1900, 2600 if i'm not mistaken.

    1. There seems to be a delay in releasing the iPhone 5C and 5S. According to Straight Talk's Facebook page, "the new iPhone phones can be purchased at participating Walmart stores, Walmart's website, and soon at www.straighttalk.com".

However they are not on the Walmart website and I haven't heard of any sightings of them in Walmart stores either. Announcing ship dates and then not meeting them is common with Straight Talk.
