Big MetroPCS Phone Sale, $29 Lumia 521, $49 LG F3, $79 LG F6

T-Mobile owned metroPCS is running a bunch of new promotions that put most of their GSM phones on sale at steep discounts. There are some good deals to be had including the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit or the Nokia Lumia 521 Windows phone for $29. The popular LG Optimus F3 LTE phone is $49 (reg $149) and big screen LG Optimus F6 LTE is $79 (reg $199). These deals are available at metropcs.com with free shipping and at participating MetroPCS dealers now through April 9, 2014

The catch is that most of the sale prices are after either a $20 or $50 mail in rebate. Still even before the the rebates, many of the phones already deeply discounted. Read on for a break down of the rebate rules and which phones require them.

First there are several phones that are on sale with an instant discount, no commitment or rebate required:

  • Samsung Freeform M QWERTY candy bar feature phone $29 (reg $59)
  • Huawei Valiant Android phone $29 (reg $79)
  • ZTE Aspect QWERTY candy bar feature phone $29 (reg $49)

The following phones are eligible for a $20 prepaid MasterCard rebate. To get the rebate, the phone must be purchased activated on a new or existing MetroPCS account and payment for the second month of service must be received within $35 days of service. It can take up to 12 weeks after the rebate is verified before you receive it:

  • Nokia Lumia 521 Windows phone $29 after $20 mail in rebate (reg $99)
  • Alcatel ONE TOUCH Fierce Android phone $29 after $20 mail in rebate (reg $99)
  • Samsung Galaxy Exhibit Android phone $29 after $20 mail in rebate (reg $129)
  • LG Optimus F6 LTE Android phone $79 after $20 mail in rebate (reg $199)

The last group of phones are eligible for a $50 prepaid MasterCard rebate. The rules are the same as for the $20 rebate except that the phones must be activated on a $50/month or higher plan. Current MetroPCS users are eligible proved they are on or upgrade to a $50 or higher plan.

  • Alcatel ONE TOUCH Evolve Android phones $29 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $59)
  • Huawei Vitria LTE Android phone $29 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $129)
  • LG Optimus F3 LTE Android phone $49 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $149)
  • Kyocera Hydro XTRM waterproof LTE Android phone $49 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $169)
  • Samsung Galaxy S III LTE Android phone $349 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $399)
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega LTE Android phone $449 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $499)
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4 LTE Android phone $499 after $50 mail in rebate (reg $549)
If you are switching to MetroPC from another operator you are also eligible for a separate $50 mail-in rebate. To qualify the operator you are switching from can't be T-Mobile or a T-Mobile MVNO.

  1. Can these be used with other GSM providers, like AT&T?

    1. They can if they are unlocked. Most 3rd-partyunlocking services can't unlock most MetroPCS phones but Metro will unlock your phone for free after 91 days of service.

So - if I switch my current number to MetroPCS and buy the Nokia 521. Use their service for 91 days on my current phone (not on Nokia 521 phone). Will they still unlock the phone after 91 days?

    3. Probably not. I think you need to use the phone you want to unlock.

  2. The metro gsm phones will work on t mobile without being unlocked. Correct?

    1. No, they need to be unlocked even for T-Mobile.

  3. I take it they won't work on other T-Mobile mvno's?

  4. I think you guys are confused, All metro pcs phones are just tmobile phones now, No unlock needed to use with tmobile/solavei/straight talk etc...

    1. Have you tried it? People who did say that their locked MetroPCS phones did not work on T-Mobile or any T-Mobile MVNO. Metro uses a different MNC than T-Mobile and locked phones reject SIMs with the wrong MNC.

  5. Looking at Metro's coverage map, it looks like it's the same as T-Mobile, except there is no data roaming (but there is talk and text roaming). Is this correct? Or are their networks different?

    1. Correct, T-Mobile native network plus voice and text roaming, but no data roaming.

    2. Thanks for the info! Anyone know if Metro will port a T-Mobile number? I'm thinking for me, their $60 unlimited plan is better than the $70 unlimited on T-mobile. I already have a Lumia 521 on T-mobile, but for $30, I'd pick up a second! :) T-mobile doesn't have LTE yet where I live, so HSPA+ is as good as it gets for me (no need for an LTE phone, yet).

    3. If your number can be ported, Metro can port it from Tmobile.

  6. Anybody know if the Alcatel One Touch Fierce is a good phone?

Looking for something that works and gets the job done without locking up or having problems. So call quality, battery life and reliability would be my top concerns.

    1. Cnet called it "Cheap, but not worthwhile". I think the LG F3 would be a better choice.

    2. I agree with you on the LG F3, but this is for a friend who is on a very tight budget, so how about the Alcatel One Touch Fierce vs Nokia Lumia 521?

    3. In my opinion the Lumia and the Samsung Exhibit are both better choices than the Alcatel.

    4. Your friend may save money in the long run with the F3, a LTE phone. There will be less of a need to replace it in a couple of years. $20 to future-proof the investment, will have a +ROI.

  7. LG Optimus F6 Vs LG Optimus F3 Which is better for call quality? Can I buy both unlocked and used on AT&T and AT&T MNVOS. Metro PCS force customers to get $40 plan or higher for LG Optimus F6 and $50 or higher plan for LG Optimus F3

    1. No idea about the call quality, Google for reviews. MetroPCS doesn't sell phones unlocked. I see unlocker codes for the F3 and F6 on eBay for about $20.

    2. Dennis how much was the F6 before you updated the post?

    3. It was $99. They added a $20 rebate to make the price $99 after rebate.

  9. Samsung Exhibit volume is a big problem hard to hear when outside

  10. You can still buy LG Optimus F6 for $99 with No Mail in Rebate. LG Optimus F6 is now $79 with a Mail in Rebate. No matter what LG Optimus F6 phone plan is $40 and higher. you cannot use $25 talk and text plan. LG Optimus F6 is a GSM phone. but the phone is lock to Metro PCS. So you can unlock it and go somewhere else. LG Optimus F6 will not work on T-Mobile unless you unlock first.

  11. can you link the 50$ for porting a line promotion? I don't see it in your metropcs news section.

  12. Deal of the century. Bought a Metro PCS LG Optimus last night for $99 + $50 for my first month. Moved my number from VM. Sent in 2 rebate forms to Metro. One for $70 LG 9 rebate form and one for $50 Port your number rebate form both found at Metro's website.

  13. I have been with Metro four months and they won't provide me an unlock code. Can anyone recommend an unlocking service for the LG F6? Thanks

    1. I've had success with www.unlockcode247.com. Their LG unlocks are $1.90

    2. Thanks Dennis. I was able to get my Metro LG Optimus F6 unlocked for $1.90 just as you said. www.unlockcode247.com provided me 5 different types of unlock codes. Metro uses the middle one.

    3. If your code from unlockcode247.com does not work, email the owner's address on your PayPal receipt and tell him which of the five codes you need. If any of the five LG phone unlock menu areas are NOT locked, the phone will state: "Your phone is not personalized." My phone needed the "Service Provider Lock." The first code they sent me did not work, and LG only gives you 3 chances on the L70 to get it right. unlockcode247 sent me the correct code on their second attempt. Take a video of you checking the IMEI and entering the code on your phone menu in case you have to ask for a refund.
