Aio Wireless, AT&T's prepaid value brand. That was a bit strange because the "must be unlocked" requirement only applied to iPhones, other locked AT&T phones worked fine on Aio.
Sometime last week, AT&T made a network level change that magically allows locked iPhones to accept and use Aio SIMs. There's been no announcement of the change, but multiple HowardForums users as well as Aio support have confirmed that locked AT&T iPhones now work with Aio SIMs.
Aio (pronounced "A-O") Wireless is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T that launched last May. Aio is sold online and through a network of independent and company owned stores. It features lower plan prices than AT&T's legacy GoPhone prepaid brand.
AT&T acquired Cricket Wireless earlier this month and has announced that Aio and Cricket will be combined as The New Cricket. Although the name is changing, AT&T has said that current Aio customers for not see any changes in their plans, services and pricing.
