Samsung Galaxy S5 Launching May 19 on Virgin Mobile and Boost

Sprint's Boost and Virgin Mobile brands took to Twitter and Facebook today to announce that they will both be launching the Samsung Galaxy S5 on Monday May 19. The S5's price was not announced but I expect it to be $599.99.

The Galaxy S5 which launched on all four major US operators last month, is the first Android flagship phone to be widely available on US prepaid carriers within weeks of its postpaid launch. The newest Galaxy S series phone currently available on Boost and Virgin is the two year old Galaxy S III.

Featuring the recent 4.4 KitKat release of the Android OS, the S5 sports a 5.1 inch 1920 x 1080px OLED screen, 16 MP main and 2.1 MP front facing cameras, a 2.5Ghz quad-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

The S5 is the first prepaid phone to support Sprint's tr-band Spark LTE technology which currently delivers speeds of up to 60Mbps and has the potential to eventually reach 1Gbps speeds.

Sprint Spark is available now in Austin, Texas; Chicago; Dallas; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; New York; San Antonio, Texas and Tampa, Fla. Sprint plans to deploy Sprint Spark in about 100 of America’s largest cities over the next three years.

    1. Where it exists, Spark is generally much faster than Verizon LTE.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the first Spark phone for Virgin and Boost so Spark will be available on Boost and Virgin if you are using a S5 in a Spark market.
