AT&T Launches GoPhone Tablet Plans

AT&T launched new GoPhone prepaid tablet plans today. There are three plans available:
  • $15/month - 250MB, add 100MB for $10
  • $30/month - 3GB, add 500MB for $10
  • $50/month - 5GB, add 1GB for $10
The plan prices and data amounts are identical to existing the AT&T branded prepaid DataConnect Pass for plans for tablets. What's different seems to be that the DataConnect plans require a credit or debit card for payment while the GoPhone plans can be refilled using standard GoPhone PINs. That should make it easier for international visitors and the unbanked to use tablets on AT&T.

Another difference is the (overpriced except on the $50 plan) data add-ons which aren't available on the AT&T DataConnect plans which can simply be renewed early if you run out of data. It's not clear if users are allowed to restart their monthly plans early if they run out of data on the GoPhone plans.

The GoPhone site lists the following tablets as compatible with the new plans:

Asus K005, Asus (TF300TL) Transformer Pad, Google Nexus 7, iPad 3, iPad Mini, Lenovo IdeaTab (A2107A), Pantech Element (P4100), Samsung Galaxy Camera (GC100), Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 (SGH- I467), Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1” (SGH-I497), Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (SM-T217T), Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0” (SM-T217A), Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9” (SGH-I597)

The Check device compatibility pop-up on this page which has the list of compatible devices mentions using unlocked non-AT&T tablets that support AT&T's bands so it may be possible tablets that aren't on the list.
