  1. How long are PINs good for? As in the PINs themselves, not the service associated with them. We currently have Straight Talk service that was prepaid in February and is good for another 16 days. When that expires, we'll be switching to a hybrid of H2O talk, GV text and Red Pocket data which will see our annual costs drop from around $1,100 down to around $185 for all the talk, text and data we actually use.

These codes expire a week or so prior to our ST service's expiration. My goal is to both get the cheapest price possible with the coupon codes AND stretch the service as long as possible by letting the services reach their actual end dates. Additionally, I wouldn't mind banking Red Pocket data PINs at the discounted rate both for if we go over 1GB in a month AND if we don't, just to have the discounted buckets of data lying back waiting to be activated each month (pending the PINs stay usable for a while).

On a related note, why does it seem that anywhere online i look, including here, always seems to overlook the combination of a detached mobile data plan, free texting apps and Pay As You Go voice minutes (used in conjunction with VOIP if necessary).

    1. PINs are good for at least 90 days after purchase. In most cases they are good much longer. I used a PagePlus PIN that over a year old and a PTEL one that was close to a year old.

By a detached data plan combined with pay as you go, do you mean carrying two devices or using a dual-SIM/dual-standby phone? Either would work although there's a lack of good dual-SIM phones that fully support US 4G frequencies.

  2. I mean carrying two devices. I understand some might find that an inconvenience, but given the savings potential involved, it's worth it to me. We had done it with the Time Warner Cable mobile Internet service a couple years back combined with GV texting and GoPhone talk minutes. Planning to do the same thing once ST ends with H20 and RP.

I've Googled the concept (with two devices that is), and have found nothing. Everything I know now about doing the two device route is just what I've figured out on my own. The pricing I'm looking at now is extremely cheap, and may be the best deal we could get anyway, but I'm always looking for the lowest price/best service for our area/actual amount of service we use combo.

Also, awesome on the PINs! Thanks for the info. Banking will make it even cheaper going forward! No point payin (much), if ya don't have to!

  3. I noticed that they no longer offer Spot Mobile recharge, do they now something we don't??
