GoPhone Now Offering $5 Credit For Auto Refill on $45 and Higher Plans

AT&Ticon has started giving a $5 credit for using auto refill on GoPhone monthly plans priced at $45/month or higher. To get the credit users just need to set up auto refill at the AT&T online payment center using a credit card or a debit card with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover logo. AT&T will issue a $5 credit to the user's card with 30 days of each successful auto payment. The eligible plans for the auto refill credit are:
  • $45/month unlimited everything plan for feature phones
  • $45/month "Walmart" unlimited talk and text, 1GB smartphone plan
  • $60/month unlimited talk and text, 2.5GB smartphone plan
The $5/month discount for auto refill is not unique to GoPhone. Several other prepaid operators including NET10, H2O and  AT&T's own Cricket give similar discounts. The $5 credit combined with the convenience of auto pay is a nice perk for users and the operators come out ahead by not having to pay merchant or dealer commissions. Although convenient, auto refill may not be the least expensive way to pay for GoPhone service. That's because AT&T charges applicable state and local sales taxes as well e911 charges in many (list) states. So it may actually be less expensive use refill airtime PINs from an online vendor like CallingMart which doesn't charge taxes and offers discounts of up to 10% on GoPhone refills.

    1. In states that don't tax airtime the auto pay discount is better on the $45 plans.

    1. I'm thinking of activating an at&t gophone tablet plan and use my unlocked tmo s5 as a tablet, and use grooveip to make and receive calls. Will gophone refill pin from callingmart works?

    2. Update: it will work with refill pin, I'm currently using the $3/3GB gophone tablet plan.

  4. Sounds like this is something of a reaction to Verizon's recent introduction of 4G. It really isn't that compelling of a deal unless you're in an area that Verizon has coverage issues.

  5. Quiz of the Week:
We have been around for several years, but you don’t see expensive TV ads or ‘fancy’ retail stores advertising our service. Maybe you overlooked us, but we are a very competitive option, and most people can find us near them if they know where to look (cellular snobs and community organizers will probably never find us). We offer the simplest choices in cellular, whether you are buying for yourself or your family. With us you get great value: a lot of resources for the price, good coverage and well-trained customer service. You can use a wide choice of phones we sell, or bring your own if you want.
    Who are we?

    1. "...cellular snobs and community organizers will probably never find us..."

Well, that rules out Apple fanboys and President Barack Obama....

The mention of "good coverage" rules out any T-Mobile MNVO also.

    10. We have a well-informed Winner of the Quiz of the Week!
      Walmart Family Mobile:
      - Only 2 plans, with or without data, for $39.88 or $29.88
      - Unlimited data with 2.5GB before throttling
      - Family discount of $5 on extra lines
      - I could only find 2 TV ads, which ran several years ago after they were introduced (ST is running ads now)
      - Postpaid coverage (voice and sms roaming, no data)
      - T-Mobile CS (much better than ST)
      - Postpaid service with no contract
      - Good selection of phones or BYOD T-Mobile and unlocked GSM phones

    11. Their plans are now $24.88 and $34.88 and they are still running ad's on TV today.

    12. Thanks; I see the new prices. Did they change this week? $34.88 is listed as a Limited Time Offer, but $24.88 looks permanent.
Where are you seeing TV ads? I have never seen one here in the mid-Atlantic area.

    13. The talk and text plan has been $24.88 for some time. They've been running ads on TV for the new $34.88 plan for almost a month maybe longer. I can't remember which channel the ads are on. Do you know how much they charge in taxes and fees?

  6. tracfone but that doesn't quite fit the "well-trained customer service" part of the description. although the cellular snobs would certainly look down on (and therefore will "never find"???) tracfone. lol

Depends on the standard of well trained. Table manners and toilet training might be counted as sufficient.

  7. I wonder if you can actually get the discount? H20 never gave it to me despite three attempts with CS all ending with a promise that it would happen at my "next refill."

  8. hey dennis can you please confirm if gophone is still offering the autopay discount?

    1. Only AT&T can give absolute confirmation that the $5 discount is still available but it looks like it is. See:

  9. Don't go for a Walmart phone I did and it had no coverage for my area in Missouri. Also they billed me even though I returned the phone and all included and still got a bills.

    1. Yes, Walmart Family Mobile is on the T-Mobile network, which at this time has poor coverage in most US states. Beware of it: Straight Talk is much better if you actually want to use your phone.
