  1. Are the phone and broadband sims the same thing?

    1. I believe the SIMs themselves are the same. The phone kits include an activation code which is required when activating a phone on a prepaid plan. But the phone SIMs can be activated on broadband where no code is needed.

    2. Any idea what the point of the activation code is? Is there some sort of fraudulent use of the SIM that the activation code prevents?

    3. I don't see the point of the code either.

    4. I think it was started by T-Mobile with the intent for the $3.34 credit. BrightSpot needs codes (and may be Walmart family Mobile, but I'm not sure) probably because they also share the same activation system. However, GoSmart only needs the SIM number.

  2. I just purchased a Nokia 521 from the Microsoft store and it, obviously, includes a T-Mobile SIM. Can I assume that enclosed SIM could be used for the $30 plan? Or should I pick up a starter kit SIM online for a penny? I'm not sure what service I will go with yet. I have the old Lycamobile SIM now, but it wouldn't work with the 521. So I would need the LycaPlus and I'm not sure that is all that attractive anymore. Thinking maybe PTel, but still looking around (mainly here, thank you).

    1. If the phone came with a prepaid activation code you can use the code and SIM to activate the $30 plan online.
You must have an activation code to activate a SIM on any T-Mobile prepaid plan, so if you didn't get one you need yo buy the activation kit.

  3. Thanks. Now I just have to decide on the provider.
