Verizon MVNO PagePlus Confirms October LTE Launch

PagePlus Cellular has announced to its dealers that 4G LTE will be available on the Verizon MVNO sometime in October.

The official announcement reads as follows.

"It's official! We're very excited to announce that the much-anticipated 4G LTE network is coming to Page Plus Cellular in October!

We just wanted to officially let you know this exciting news that has been rumored for quite some time.

We don't have all the specific details just yet to share with you, but as new information becomes available we'll let you know via additional emails and training materials.

Please don't call the dealer relations team with questions about 4G LTE, as the internal training materials are still being developed, and our CSRs will not have the answers to your questions.

Stay tuned to your email and the dealer portal for more details as they become available.

We can share this with you now:
  • With the exception of The 12 plan, all other monthly plans will be available for 4G devices, at 4G LTE data speeds, with no increase in the monthly plan prices. 3G service will also still be available for all plans. Upon device activation, our system will detect the device type and assign it to 3G or 4G service accordingly.
  • 4G LTE SIM cards will be Page Plus specific. They will be available through your Master Agent in October.
Again, additional details will be announced soon - we just wanted to share the good news with you, our valued dealers, first."

Update 1 PM PT 9/9/14: There's a very active thread about this announcement on the Kitty Wireless Forum. According to Kitty:
  • No plan price increases are expected
  • The "Standard" Pay As You Go and $12 plans not only won't be getting LTE access but LTE capable devices won't be allowed on those plans, at least initially.
  • It will still be possible to flash Verizon LTE phones and use them on the $12 and pay as you go plans.
  • For LTE phones on an LTE plan, it will be possible to switch phones by moving the SIM card from one phone to the other, ESN changes will not be necessary
There's a lot of speculation about what LTE coming to PagePlus means to other Verizon MVNOs. My guess is that Straight Talk and NET10, which like PagePlus, are owned by TracFone will get LTE around the same time as PagePlus. Because it's pay as you go, TracFone itself probably won't. The independent Verizon MVNOs; Selectel, RedPocket and BYO, will also likely get LTE around the same time as PagePlus. It would be bad business for Verizon to offer LTE selectively to its MVNO partners.

Although there's been no official announcement, it's been widely rumored that when LTE goes live on PagePlus, it will no longer be possible to activate non-Verizon (Sprint, U.S. Cellular, etc.) MEIDS or ESNs on PagePlus.

I doubt that there will be any change to the Verizon policy of blocking phones sold for use on Verizon Prepaid from being activated on Verizon MVNOs. Verizon is subsidizing the prices of Verizon Prepaid phones and I can't see them subsidizing phones to be used on MVNOs.

Update 8:15 PM PT 9/9/14: The original Kitty Forums thread about today's LTE on PagePlus news has closed to bew posts and replaced by a subforum with multiple threads. Kitty Wireless is now taking pre-orders for LTE SIMs. Click here to order a SIM. The price is $5.99 with free shipping. There's a 5 SIM per customer limit and the SIMs are expected to ship between Sept. 26 and Sept. 30. Only mini(standard) and nano sizes are currently available.

  4. After hearing the "official" anouncement today from America Movil's Page Plus division in regard to the soon to be available 4G LTE from Verizon, Kitty over at Kitty Wireless must have rolled over in her water and bcame a "Wet Pussy" from all the pent-up demand that her business is going to experience with all the new and current customers adding 4G devices, and not having to flash anymore or at least not for the forseeable future.

The big question? Will both prepiad and postpaid Verizon 4G LTE devices work and/or be permitted on Page Plus, or for that matter, with any Verizon MVNO that negotiates 4G?

    1. Verizon prepaid phones are not and will not be allowed on any Verizon MVNO. Any Verizon postpaid phone including LTE phones will be allowed on Verizon MVNOs.

  5. Please don't ban new activations of clean ESN flashed non-Verizon phones (for 3g service).

  6. HELLSBELLS, that's too funny. I bet he will be rolling in his water. The pep rally is almost over and the game about to begin. Sucks to be a flasher today.

  8. I don't know how you get any information. The Kitty Wireless web site is one of the worst designed I have ever seen.

  9. I left Verizon and the possibility of Page Plus at the beginning of this year. I'm saving $75 a month by moving to AT&T. So I will have saved $750 by the time this rolls out. That more than pays for the OnePlus One I'm using, which by the way does NOT work on Verizon.

  10. Is Page Plus still taking old Cricket CDMA phones?

    1. At the moment Cricket CDMA phones can still be flashed to PagePlus. That probably won't be possible after LTE becomes available next month.

  11. Whatwere the other ones that you mentioned in the past that takes in old Cricket CDMA phones, Dennis?

    1. Selectel and BYO Wireless used to accept flashed Cricket phones but no longer do.

  12. My phone has been flashed for quite some time. I know I will have to unflash it but I have a Verizon sim card in it, will I still need to buy a new "Pageplus" sim for my phone or can I just use the sim that's already in their?

    1. PagePlus told dealers have that all phones will need a PagePlus SIM to be able to use LTE.

  13. Thank you Dennis! That's a minor bummer and small price to pay for what I hope will be a better experience with my Galaxy S3.

  14. I still think Verizon AllSet plans are better.

    1. Why is that? The cheapest AllSet plan I saw for a smart phone was $45.00. That included unlimited talk and text with 500 megs of data. My current PagePlus plan is only $29.99 for my smart phone and while it doesn't have unlimited talk and text it too has 500 megs of data. For $39.99 PagePlus gives you unlimited talk, text and 1 full gig of data!

  15. My Daughter In Law had to pay $25 for the Verizon SIM Card, $35 activation fee to switch from her 3G plan to the new 4G plan and on top of it pay $65 for the 3G plan. Now US Cellular is now allowing 4G phones on Prepaid and their 2 GB plan is $60/Mo ($65 with taxes). I got a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for $150 in very good condition. I get around 7 Mbps Upload speed and 6 to 8 Mbps Download speed. Great for tethering (with PDA Net) when my net fails here. Hopefully PagePlus will not charge for activation as their plans are better than US Cellular but for now I will be using US Cellular.
