Straight Talk Announces the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

Straight Talk Wireless issued a press release today announcing the availability of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus from Straight Talk. According to the release the new iPhones are available now at Walmart stores, Walmart.com and StraightTalk.com. Prices are the same as at the Apple Store, the 16 GB iPhone 6 is $649 and the 16 GB 6 Plus is $749.

According to Straight Talk the new iPhones have been available since Oct 19th, however there's currently no trace of them at Straight Talk, Walmart.com or StraightTalk's iPhone mini-site at www.straighttalk.com/iphone. I'm sure they will show up eventually.

Update 10/23: the Straight Talk iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are now available online at StraightTalk.com and Walmart.comicon.

Through December 31, 2015 Walmart will be offering 24 month no-interest financing on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to qualifying customers who purchase either iPhone using a Walmart Credit Card. No interest will be charged if the phone is paid in full within 24 months. Credit approval is required.

The new iPhones work with either of Straight Talk's unlimited plans:

  • $45/30 days -Unlimited nationwide talk, text, and data
  • $60/30 days - Unlimited nationwide talk, text, and data plus Unlimited International calling to more than 1,000 destinations in Mexico, Canada, India, and in other countries
Both plans include 3 GB of high speed data per 30 day cycle. After 3 GB, data speeds are reduced to approximately 64 Kbps for the remainder of the 30 day cycle. High speed data is restored once a new 30 day service plan is redeemed at the end of the 30 day plan cycle.

I believe, but haven't been able to confirm, that Straight Talk's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, like their iPhone 5c and 5s use the AT&T network.

Update 10/23: On the Straight Talk site, the new iPhones are only shown in GSM4 (AT&T) markets, confirming that they do run on the AT&T network.

  1. These are unsubsidized prices. Why wouldn't anyone just buy directly from apple and byod to whichever network?

    1. Maybe because of the financing option. I can't think of another reason.

    2. I have to buy it from them because I have ST and right now Apple isn't selling the unlocked version. I can't buy the T-Mobile one (which is unlocked) because it isn't available where I live. So I'm stuck with either waiting for who knows when Apple releases the unlocked or buying it from ST.

    3. You can buy an AT&T version and get it unlocked for a fee. You can buy the Verizon version, which is already unlocked on the GSM side. You don't have to get the phone from Straight Talk.

  2. Needs the slogan "Straight Talk, Bent Phone"

  3. I am sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but on Tmobile's $2 a day (only on days used) prepaid plan, does the minimum $3 a month charge apply this type of account, and If I only used it one day a month, tmobile would charge me the extra $1 or another $3? Thank -you.

    1. The $3/month and $2/day are completely separate plans. If you're on the $3/month and change to the $2/day plan it will cancel the $3/month plan. If you later change back to the monthly plan you will be charged $3 to start a new month.

    2. With the new $3 monthly plan, T Mobile has a data option. Those might be better than getting a $2 plan.

  4. Boost is selling them for $100 less. I love my 6+ from Boost with Spark and I get 5gb of data for only $45 a month.

    1. ST, which I am not a fan of, at least does have 1) an unlock policy in place and 2) a no-interest financing option

    2. I think I'd rather pay 100.00 more and have a phone that isn't shackled down to Sprint's network.

  5. Thanks Dennis, so on the $2 a day plan there are no minimum monthly charges, I just need to refill it at least $10 every 90 days? Thank again.

  6. Is the Walmart credit card financing offer only available if you purchase at a brick and mortar Walmart store?

Is the Straight Talk Iphone 6 on AT&T network? And if so, is it unlocked so that I can change the MMS settings to H2O Wireless?

    1. Walmart no interest financing is only available in-store.
The Straight Talk 6 runs on AT&T. It's not unlocked.

    2. ST will unlock after 1 year and, I assume, the phone is paid off.

  8. Thankful for Dennis' forum here. Saved me from the mistake of going with Trac/Straight Talk/Page Plus, and its rotten-tomato Movile customer service.

  9. Arethese iphones (walmart) unlocked too? I live in the Caribbean and need it to be unlocked to use it here. (Thinking about buying iPhone 6 from them)

  10. so all iphone6 runs AT&T towers no matter your zip code?

    1. Right. Better to buy an unlocked GSM iPhone 6 at the Apple Store and use the BYOD SIM. Then you can immediately switch to another MVNO, Cricket, Tmo or TruPhone if you travel or get sick of Am Movil non-sense.

  11. I am planning to purchase a Verizon iPhone 6 plus and put a straight talk sim in it. I want the Verizon phone because of the memory 16gb vs 64 gb. Will it be successful?

    1. How are you going to buy the Verizon 6 without a Verizon service plan? Will they sell you one at full price, no service?

  12. The iPhone 6 is running off Verizon network with Straight Talk. APCDMAV = Verizon Network.

    1. I don't understand what you are trying to tell us. Are you running an iPhone 6 on Straight Talk Verizon? Did you buy your iPhone 6 from, Straight Talk, Verizon or unlocked from Apple? And where does it say APCDMAV?

    2. How were you able to do that? I'm about to buy a new iPhone 6 and need to know what to do to run off Verizon towers.

  14. I am currently using Straight Talk and want to purchase an iPhone 6. The problem has been that even if I purchase it right from Straight Talk, the phone will not work in my area. From what I gather, the iPhone uses AT&T and the service where I live is Verizon. Is there some kind of "trick" to getting an iPhone that will work in my Verizon area?

    1. People have had mixed results activating the unlocked iPhone 6 purchased directly from the Apple Store on PagePlus CDMA (Verizon) BYOP. See this HowardForums thread. If you can't get Straight Talk to accept it there's always PagePlus.

  15. I am fixing to purchase an iPhone 6 plus from Walmart straight talk on the web-- I'm planning on paying full price- do I order unlocked or what, I'm confused! I'm on straight talk now with AT&T- please tell me what I need to do- will I be able to keep same phone number and also keep my same info

    1. All Straight Talk iPhones 6 Plus are locked meaning it they only ever work on Straight Talk.

It's better to buy an unlocked iPhone 6 Plus from the Apple store. The price is the same but it will work on Straight Talk, AT&T, T-Mobile and verizon and just about every operator in the world. The unlocked phone's resale value will be higher as well.

If you buy the unlocked phone you will also need a 99¢ Straight talk AT&T SIM

Which ever phone you buy you can transfer your current number and account to it online or by calling Straight Talk
