  1. I don't expect all of these to be online. Radio shack, for instance, did not have that $99 virgin iphone 4 online last black Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Can the straight talk galaxy s4 be unlocked to recieve T-Mobiles free 200 mb plan

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, Straight Talk phones are almost impossible to unlock and T-Mobile's 200MB free plan only works with tablets.

      Delete
    2. Yes, I believe so. Straight Talk has update their unlocking policy and now they will unlock phone purchased on their website as long as you use them for a certain amount of time. I remember reading about it on ST web site. They have to be introduced into the market in 2014 tho.

  4. Can the ST iPhone 5C be used on AT&T MVNOs, or is it locked for use on ST only?

    1. I see above: "Dennis BourniqueNovember 23, 2014 at 8:24 PM

No, Straight Talk phones are almost impossible to unlock..."

I am guessing this applies to your question.

      Delete
    2. Correct, Straight Talk phones are locked to Straight Talk and unlocks are not available from 3rd parties.

      Delete
    3. The ST iPhone 5 we bought worked fine on Pageplus, Selectel and now AirVoice, where data is much faster.

      Delete
    4. That's correct, many Straight Talk Verizon based phones including the iPhone 4, 4s and 5 do work on PagePlus and other Verizon MVNOs.

The Straight Talk iPhone 5c, 5s and 6 are AT&T based and locked to Straight Talk and will reject non-Straight Talk SIMs including AT&T SIMs.

  8. what carrier is the cheapest per month if I manage to snag a bolt for $40? Data is more important that voice/text.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Bolt? If you mean an LG Volt, the cheapest plan is $35/month. Sprint Prepaid, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile all have $35 plans but they are not the same. See Sprint and Sprint MVNO Prepaid Plans Compared for details.

BTW, Boost, Virgin and Sprint Prepaid phones can only be used on their respective services, they aren't interchangeable.

  10. Shopcelldeals on eBay has temporarily lowered the price on 3 of his new TracFone bundles:

    Moto E with 1200.minutes/texts/data - $99.99;
    LG Ultimate 2 with 1200 minutes/texts/data - $129.99; and
Alcatel One Touch Pop Icon with 1200 minutes/texts/data - $129.99.

Don't know how long these special sale prices will last, but here's a link:

  11. Do you guys think it's worth getting the s5 for 400 on Cyber Monday?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's a OK deal if Sprint's network works for you. But I like the Cricket S5 for $100 less better.

      Delete
    2. It will remain to be seen whether Cricket will sell the S5 without a month of service.

      Delete
    3. They will. "new activation on a smartphone plan required.". It's still $60 less than the Boost and Virgin deals.

      Delete
    4. Dennis: With those emails going out to Virgin dealers to phase out, that you reported on earlier, is it a safe guess that Sprint is killing off Virgin?

      Delete
    5. I missed that. Thanks! Like you said, it still seems like a good deal.

      Delete
    6. It's hard to say. I think Sprint is trying to position Boost as it's brand for the dealer channel to compete against Cricket and MetroPCS. They might fold Virgin into Sprint Prepaid but I wouldn't count on it. Carriers like having multiple brands, it gives customers the illusion of choice. Hate you Virgin Mobile service, switch to Boost, etc.

      Delete
    7. It wouldn't be so bad, Dennis, if the phones on Virgin, Sprint Prepaid, and Boost could be moved from one to the other.

But the thing that finally forced me to leave Virgin is that the "Custom" plan (with lousy phones) has a roaming option, to make up for terrible Sprint coverage. Their "Beyond Talk" has some great phones, but no roaming option at all.

So I am jumping to another carrier, which doesn't force me to choose between having a good phone, and having coverage. One that allows both at once.

    1. can you get this in virgin mobile. I believe that virgin mobile doesn't have the data limits on it.

      Delete
    2. Dennis, for 40 dollars or less which would be the best phone to buy today if you have good Sprint coverage in your area. I believe it's the Volt, but wanted to ask. I have Tmo for the 30 dollar online plan, but don't see any decent phones. Thanks in advance :)

      Delete
    3. What is your price range for a TMo phone? You can get a LG F60 from Metro for $100 and unlock it. You can get a Moto E for $50 from Walmart and unlock it. A F6 from Newegg with a coupon the makes it about $90.

You can port to Cricket for 3-4 months, get a Moto G LTE for $25 after rebate plus a $100 account credit...then port back to TMo when your credits have been used up and use the Moto G on TMo $30 again. You'll have three months of service on Cricket for a total outlay of $65, and a phone to take back to TMo.

      Delete
    4. I'd go with the Volt or HTC Desire 510

  15. Dennis, can you get the $9.99 motorolo E on straight talk without a plan. And if you do, do you think it will work like a tablet for games with Google play or will it be locked out?

    1. The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra D5316 that's on sale at BestBuy supports LTE bands 17 (700), 4 (1700) and 2 (1900). Band 4 is T-Mobile's main band and T-Mobile also uses band 2. AT&T uses bands 17 and 4 so it would get LTE on T-Mobile, MetroPCS, AT&T and their MVNOs.

  20. I have an unlocked at&t lg g2,using a tmobile sim card and have seen the data indicator say G,E,4G and 4G LTE does this mean I'm getting all available tmobile bands?!

    1. It means you are getting those speeds but doesn't tell you anything about bands.

The AT&T G2 supports all but one of T-Mobile's currently used bands. It lacks support for T-Mobile's main 3G and 4G band, 1700 Mhz. It does support 1900 Mhz which T-Mobile uses to provide supplementary 3G and 4G service, mainly in urban areas which is why you are seeing 4G.

  21. Can the Sprint Prepaid Samsung Galaxy S III LTE Android phone be unlocked to be used on MetroPCS, Straight Talk, Cricket or Boost Mobile?

    1. It can be used on Ting (supposedly) and maybe ring plus. I think that's it.

    2. I'm not sure about Sprint Prepaid, but Sprint blocks phones from Boost and Virgin from being activated on Sprint MVNOs. I doubt that it's any different with Sprint Prepaid phones which are sold at subsidized prices like Boost and Sprint.

In addition, the Sprint Prepaid S III is the tri-band LTE version that even the post paid version of is blacklisted on MVNOs until May, 2015. See Banned Phones - Tracking The Sprint MVNO Blacklist.

On the other hand phones do sometimes fall through the cracks and work where they aren't supposed to. For example:
The Boost Moto G has been reported by multiple people to work on Ting.
RingPlus' MEID eligibility checker seems to be buggy and sometimes lets prepaid phones be activated.

The bottom line is that it probably won't work but we won't know until someone tries it and tells the world if it worked or not.

    3. @ Rob, No
      <<<>>>
The Sprint Pre-Paid SIII shows Blacklisted on R+ and simply shows not allowed on Ting, Ting's ESN check tool does not give a reason, but I think that it is safe to say it is due to being blacklisted. I would say this is due to the ESN falling into that same category as the Sprint Post-Paid version, which bodes well for the SPP version being allowed when the blacklist is removed.I would expect the HTC Desire 510 to fall into the same category as the SPP SIII

The SPP Tribute, Volt and Aquos Crystal(All Tri-Band) have all been reported activated on Ting with what appears all features functional, except tethering seems to be an issue though.
The Tribute and I believe the Aquos been activated on R+. I ran the SPP Volt ESN on R+ and it is good to go. Mine is in the mail.
I would say if you can activate it on Ting you can activate it on any Sprint MVNO, but not true of R+. R+ ESN check tool is not buggy, it simply lets just about any Sprint Network device through to activate. LOL.
But........, it has been reported the the Boost Aquos has also been activated on Ting and I also believe the Boost Volt as well, but that is inconclusive from what was posted on the Ting Forum.

  22. Is the Sprint Prepaid Samsung Galaxy S III LTE Android phone to be used with Sprint's plans or Virgin Mobile's? I ask because in the specifications section at Best Buy's site, for Service Provider, it says Virgin Mobile.

    1. Probably not. Saying a Sprint Prepaid phone's service provider is Virgin Mobile seems like an obvious copy/paste typo.

    1. Get the AT&T Tribute from Walmart for $40. It unlocks for $3 and has LTE.

    2. ..oh, though I'm not sure if the AT&T Tribute has TMo LTE bands.

The reason why those other phones have great deals is that you can't really unlock them. It is really apples and oranges in that respect.
