  1. Good day mate. Is the Lumia 635 the same as the 632 you listed will go on sale if we wait a day? Perhaps a typo? Also have you used this device? I'm looking to replace my iPhone 4 which is very laggy with all the updates. Also does this have a front facing camera?

Lastly, have you seen any deals on the Lumia 530? I think its the updated Lumia 520.

    1. It''s the 635 that goes on sale tomorrow. 632 was a typo.

I haven't used the 636 but it gets excellent reviews from users. The 530 is inferior to the 520 and 635 by most accounts.

  2. Off-topic but of interest to the general prepaid subject:

Non-subsidiary Verizon-related MVNO "Selectel" does not have 4G yet, as everyone knows. A rep there told me "We are working extremely hard to get this done quickly." a few minutes ago.

I hope this is more than just a version of "the check is in the mail". Selectel's value is certainly diminished compared to PagePlus and others until they get this resolved.

    1. One MVNO said that Verizon has postponed 4G LTE for all the other MVNOs to sometime in January (I don't recall when) because of the issues (on the Verizon side) with the Page Plus 4G LTE launch.

      Delete
    2. My information has that Selectel successfully completed negotiations and entered into an additional agreement/contract with Verizon for 4G LTE service, and can "turn-on " the 4G LTE service at anytime.

The hold-up appears to be on Selectel's side. It has nothing to do with America Movil and it's wholly-owned Page Plus subsidiary issues/problems with their roll-out of 4G LTE.

Furthermore, as I understand, Selectel is busy working on back office upgrades and behind the scenes system compatability and implementation to make the inital offer of 4G LTE a success for their "flavor" of MVNO, and authorized dealers who sell Selectel services.

As of today, Monday, November 24, 2014, Verizon has not communicated to Selectel's President and owner that 4G LTE may not be "turned-on" or used by that MVNO. It's up to Selectel as to when they are going to turn-on 4G LTE.

  3. I bought an AT&T Lumia 635 about 2 weeks ago from Walmart. I even unlocked it and use it with a T-Mobile MVNO. I wish I had waited. I'm trying to resist the urge to return it.

    1. The Nokia 635 is already sold out. I ordered one at 3:00 AM. Maybe they will get some more.

      Delete
    2. Walmart often lets you return things, for any reason, as long as it is in perfect condition....within 30 days I think?. If this is allowed, and you have kept the phone in good shape, why "resist" ?

      Delete
    3. Unlock codes are expensive for the Lumia 635, and some serial numbers can't be unlocked by some companies. Where did you get yours unlocked?

      Delete
    4. unlockcode247 dot com. It cost $15 when I did it about a week ago. I went back to their website to check but the advert for unlocking AT&T lumias is gone. I guess I will hang on to my unlocked lumia 635

    5. Just call your local Microsoft store if you have one. I saw this then checked the website it said out of stock. I then called the main Microsoft store in Houston at Galleria mall. They said they had a few enough to last for today. They were vague about inventory. I just got one for my mom she has a Dell 8 tablet and laptop so she likes the platform. Best of all with taxes less than $43.

  4. The ZTE Zmax for $179 is a good deal. Its sold by Walmart Family Mobile but it will work with a Tmobile sim. no unlocking.

  5. Isn't "Walmart Family Mobile" a mere sales shell around TMobile prepaid? Not any sort of separation, MVNO, etc?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Doesn't matter. The phones are lower priced and the same as buying directly from Tmobile.

      Delete
    2. Last time I checked, its all the same except for Walmart Family Mobile not having 4G speeds

      Delete
    3. I believe that WFM, Brightspot, and Univsion Mobile are all "turnkey MVNOs" meaning T-Mobile provides all the operational support including billing and custome service and Walmart, Target and Univision get branding and customized plans and handle marketing and sales.

      Delete
    4. ...which I guess means 3 different types of MVNOs. The real ones (Page Plus, Selectel), the pseudo-ones that are just a marketing face of an actual carrier (Boost, Cricket), and the turnkey ones...

      Delete
    5. "Doesn't matter. The phones are lower priced and the same as buying directly from Tmobile."

The Walmart one interested me, as I have seen Walmart's everywhere and have yet to see a T-Mobile store or affiliate storefront outside of web ads. But then I found out that the coverage of WFM is as extensive as the T-Mobile storefront presence: that is, very little.

The Walmart people I have met are sick and tired of being asked about WFM. You'd think that a company with a ubiquitous national presence would partner with a carrier that had the same, but it didnt happen. So WFM is advertised on places, and people come into Walmart, and the Walmart people tell them why they can't have it.

      Delete
    6. WFM is T-Mobile postpaid service, not prepaid. You get some extra benefits like detailed, paper bills. And very low prices.
T-Mobile tied Verizon in overall customer satisfaction in the recent, huge Consumer Reports survey for good reasons, but especially the extra value they provide to customers. And traditional, no-contract plans like WFM have the most satisfied customers. More satisfied than prepaid.
Spread FUD all you want, but T-Mobile growth and results speak for themselves.

      Delete
    7. "WFM is T-Mobile postpaid service, not prepaid"

This is actually untrue, according to the WFM page. WFM has absolutely no data roaming, which means no data in most of the country. TMobile Postpaid, while the amount is very little, does have data roaming.

"Wireless service provided by T-Mobile USA, Inc. Domestic use only. No data roaming."

      From "Walmart Family Mobile"'s page:

      http://www.walmart.com/cp/Family-Mobile/1076544

Now let's look at TMobile Prepaid:

"Data roaming only available for the $50, $60, $70, and $80 monthly plan options"

from the fine print at http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com

There you have it. Not only is "Walmart Family Mobile" not "T-Mobile Postpaid" at all, it is even worse than T-Mobile Prepaid.T-Mobile Prepaid has some data roaming, to cover the rest of the country. Walmart Family Mobile lacks even this.

You might call it FUD. I call it being an aware consumer.

      Delete
    8. It's well known that T-Mobile and Sprint have less coverage than AT&T and Verizon, there's no need to argue the point.

It's also true that millions of people find that T-Mobile and Sprint provide coverage where they need it.

This post is about phone deals. Please keep topics relevant to that topic.

      Delete
    9. As long as we have put away the idea that Walmart Family Mobile has coverage better than it is: worse than TMO post and prepaid, as WFM lacks any data roaming.

Coverage maps are key in commitment to any carrier commitment.

      Delete
  6. Mr. TMobile Salesman: TMO coverage is terrible compared to the two big carriers. Customer satisfaction doesn't count when you can't be a customer in most of the country.

Where, if the results are speaking, they'd better use Verizon or ATT.

That's not FUD. Its cold hard facts on TMO having too few towers. Not ready for prime time. " No bars in most places"

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. More FUD. You don't need as many towers when you have roaming. WFM has roaming.
Millions of new customers ignored the FUD and are very satisfied.
Tmo will pass Sprint soon. You can just keep counting towers.
