Prepaid Phones on Sale This Week Jan 25 - Jan 31

Welcome to Prepaid Phone News' regular Sunday Prepaid Phones on Sale this Week post featuring listing all the best US prepaid phone deals.

My Deal of the week pick is the Walmart Family Mobile ZTE Zmax LTE Android phablet for $179.00 (reg $199.99) at Walmart.

The Zmax has impressive specs for the price including a 5.7 inch 720 x 1280 px HD screen, 8 MP main camera, front facing camera, and a 1.2 Ghz quadcore Snapragon CPU. There's 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot.

It's running Android KitKat and works on T-Mobile and T-Mobile MVNOs without needing to be unlocked. WiFi calling works on T-Mobile and the Zmax is one of the first phones to support T-Mobile's new 700 Mhz band 12 LTE.

Although ZTE phones have had some quality control issues in the past, this particular one seems to be well liked by users.

  1. Best Buy Moto X AT&T is only available for in-store pickup, supplies limited. They will still ship the HTC One Mini for $199.99

    1. $2300 is high for the S4 but that's still less than what the S6 will probably cost. JK.

    2. $2300 is probably the price of the Verizon version. Sprint's version only costs $23 or at least it should.

  3. Dennis, I logged into my Tmobile prepaid account, it no longer gives me the option of daily plans at all, they aren't even an option, they have been all along prior to today, the plans it gives to available to switch to is the $35 unlimited talk and text (no data) all the way up to $80 "simple choice unlimited", but if I log out I don't see an $80 unlimited plan at all, maybe they don't have it up yet?! 4. I have the Zmax, awesome phone for the money, the screen isn't the most tightly packed density wise but the battery and overall Nexus feel makes up for it, very little bloatware, in fact I think it's just T-mobile's account management app and that's about it. great battery life.

  5. T-Mobile prepaid, all I see is a $30 40 50 60 plans, no more unlimited?

  6. Isn't the Zmax from MetroPCS a better deal at $99 after rebate. MetroPCS has some of the best plans right now so it might be worth the two months of service required for the rebate.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If there is an unlock code and you want to use Metro and wait for a rebate, I guess.

      Delete
    2. You don't have to wait for the rebate if you go in store.

      Delete
    3. Do they bypass the mail in rebate if I buy in store? Also can I purchase phone without Metropcs activation ?

      Delete
    4. I'm not sure, but I believe that if you buy in-store you get the rebate immediately taken off the phone's price, but stores also want to charge you an 'activation fee' of $35 that they are very reluctant to waive (I think this is how the store makes its money on the deal).

It's been a while since I've been in a MetroPCS store, so this policy may have changed.

  10. T-Mobile is announcing its latest "uncarrier" move today. You can now opt to pay $5 a month for exclusive access to discounts when upgrading to new devices. The service is called Score, and some of the deals are pretty appealing.

If you're a Score member for 12 months, you'll unlock deals on top-tier smartphones. The sample deals included in today's press release include $150 off the full price of a Nexus 6 or Galaxy Note 4, as well as $100 off a Galaxy S 5. Not too shabby of a discount for $60 worth of payments over the course of a year.

    More "uncarrier" moves

After just six months, you'll be able to get some entry-level smartphones for free. The carrier mentions the Alcatel OneTouch Evolve 2 as an example — it currently sells the device for $80, so paying just $30 for the device over six months isn't such a bad deal.

T-Mobile says it will continually update the deals, so a year from now you'll presumably have a selection of current smartphones to choose from. Nevertheless, you will be at the mercy of the executives who decide which phones get onto the deal list. And if you don't upgrade your device each and every year, those extra $5 charges could add up. If you're interested, Score is available to all T-Mobile customers, whether prepaid or postpaid

  14. From logging out of my monthly prepaid account , as a new customer at tmobile.com/prepaid , I have the choice of only 4 monthly plans, they are described as "Simply prepaid" all unlimited talk and text with different LTE data amounts
    $40 1G
    $50 3G
$60 5G, and of course the 100 minute 5GB plan for $30. and paygo $3 monthly plan.
There are no "Simple choice plans to choose from"..However when I log into my account and choose "change plan", I get the choice of the new "simple choice " plans AND "Simply prepaid", the "simple choice " plans give me the choice of :
$50 ,$60,$70, $80 plans which sound just like the old plans ($80 one truly unlimited), also a $35 unlimited talk and text plan, , my point is the 5 plans I just listed don't appear to be available to new customers, and in addition the $2/3 daily plans are nowhere to be found, existing customer or not, maybe I am looking in wrong place, anybody have any clarification before I confuse myself and you! -Zach

  16. WalMart is offering the new AT&T Fusion 3 (Huawei Tribute) for a rollback price of $68.72 (regular price listed at $99.99). It has very similar features to the Motorola Moto G LTE version (4G LTE, 1.2ghz quad core processor, 4GB internal memory, 1GB RAM, Android Kit Kat) for a significantly reduced price. Perfect for us affiliated to the AT&T signal (I'm with Net10 but, as I understand it, it can be used with H2O, Straight Talk, Consumer Cellular and other AT&T MVNO's). Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong because I am by no means an expert on the subject.

    1. You are correct, AT&T GoPhones will work out of the box on any AT&T MVNO. But Net10 and Straight Talk phones are locked and cannot be used on any other operator.

      Delete
    2. That's great. Either the Nokia Lumia 635 or this phone, in their GoPhone versions, should work well with my Net10 BYOP SIM card, which uses AT&T towers. I would be classified as a "budget-conscious" user. In any case, they are two lesser alternatives to the Moto G, which is priced much higher but is still considered a budget-friendly phone and is a better alternative overall. I bought the Nokia Lumia 635 GoPhone and plan to use it with the Net10 SIM card.

  21. Anybody know whether the Moto Luge (ex-Razr M) can be used on MVNO? It also has a GSM slot. Can this be used with US GSM carriers? It appears to have AT&T UMTS bands. This is a lot of phone for $50.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's a Verizon Prepaid phone so it should not work on Verizon MVNOs.
It's unlocked for international GSM use but not for US GSM. There's a hack to unlock it for US GSM use.
Even with the hack LTE only works on Verizon and there's no support for UTMS AWS which is T-Mobile's main 3G and faux-G band.

  22. My Android phone keeps downloading and installing apps I've never heard of before all by itself and without asking for permission. I keep mobile data turned off and this happens when I'm connected to wifi. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's happening because to Pay Store defaults to automatically updating apps. To change it. Open the Play Store, tap the Menu icon (3 horizontal bars in the top left corne), tap "Settings", tap "Auto-update apps", select "Do not auto-update apps".

      Delete
    2. Why would auto update download apps I never had before?

      Delete
    3. A couple of possibilities,
Same apps like Google Pay Services are hidden and don't show in the apps drawer. but still get updated.
Some operators and manufacturers and probably Google have the ability to push new apps to you. Which phone do you have, on which operator and what are the unwanted apps that downloaded?

    4. LG L70, Tmobile, three apps all downloaded on different days, some browser I never heard of before, something boost and the last one is really weird another settings app, I had two settings apps next to each other and the new one didn't launch and it uninstalled like any other app. I uninstalled all three but the settings app installed again the next day and none of them are in play store history (My apps). My sister has the same phone also on Tmobile but her phone hasn't downloaded anything like this.

Two stores near me have it, even though the regular Bestbuy.com says there are none for in-store pickup. They also list the HTC One Mini for $199.99.
