Boost Mobile Launches Add-On Data Packs, Extends Expiring Promos & Expands Mexico Add-On Availability

Sprint Prepaid Group today announced the availability of new add-on Data Packs. Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile customers running low on high speed data can add 1 GB of for $5 or 2 GB for $10. The add-on data is good for 30 days from date of purchase. Data Pack data is used before plan data. Customers can add a Data Pack at anytime from the My Account area of the Boost or Virgin Mobile websites.

In other Sprint Prepaid news, Boost dealers were notified that two long running Boost Mobile promotions that were due to expire have been renewed and that the $5 All of Mexico add-on is now available with all Boost Monthly plans.

The Slash Your Bill in Half promo that lets customers bringing their phone number over from Cricket or MetroPCS cut their payment in half, has been extended until Sept. 30. It also been expanded to include customers porting from T-Mobile, T-Mobile MVNOs and Puerto Rico's Claro and Open Mobile. There are three Slash Your Bill in Half plans:
  • $20/month - unlimited talk, messaging and data including 2.5 GB of high speed data
  • $25/month - unlimited talk, messaging and data including 5 GB of high speed data
  • $30/month - unlimited talk, messaging and data including 10 GB of high speed
The slashed prices are good for one year after which customers will be switched to a current Boost plan with a comparable amount of data. Slash Your Bill in Half is only available at participating Boost dealers, not online or at national retailers like BestBuy, Target or Walmart. Use the Boost Mobile dealer locater to find nearby dealers. Check the Customer Support box on the locater form to exclude top-up only and national retailer locations and show only Boost dealers.

Update 7/30: Slash Your Bill in Half customers can get a $99.99 HTC Desire 510 LTE Android phone for $49.99.

The $30/month Data Boost Up plan's availability, which was scheduled to end July 31, has been extended until Sept 30. It provides unlimited talk, messaging and data including 2 GB of high speed data. The plan is available online as well as from Boost Dealers. Auto pay is required. If the customer cancels auto pay the plan price goes to $40/month.

Boost's $5/month All of Mexico Plus add-on, which until now was only available with $45/month and higher plans can now be added to all Boost monthly plans including the Slash Your Payment in Half and Data Boost Up plans. It adds unlimited international texting and unlimited calling to Canada and Mexico including to mobile phones.

  1. Tempting. I'm on T-Mobile's secret $30 plan right now. I'm wondering if my unlocked GSM Samsung Galaxy S 3 originally purchased from T-Mobile would work with Boost or Virgin Mobile.

    1. No way The GSM S3 has no CDMA or EVDO support, doesn't support any of Sprint's LTE bands and Sprint won't activate phones it didn't sell except recent iPhones and theNexus 5 & 6.

    2. Looks like Motorola announced a bunch of new/upgraded phones, for direct purchase. They claim will that they work on any/all USA networks. Have I mis-understood or been mislead; each model has only one USA variant with complete interchangeability across all USA networks?

    3. Yes, generally Sprint, Verizon phones won't work on AT&T, T-Mobile and vice versa, right?

  2. SD, It's good for cricket and Metro, not Tmobile.

    2. In the dealer newsletter Boost announced that customers porting from T-Mobile were now eligible for Slash You Bill in Half. They didn't say anything about T-Mobile MVNOs AFAIK. Where did you see it announced?

    3. What if I'm on the (not secret) $30 5GB plan? Can I port to Boost and qualify for one of the Slash Your Bill in Half plans?

  3. Slash Your Bill in Half is also for Tmobile mvnos.

    1. Maybe, but according to Boost's published terms it's "Available only for MetroPCS, Open Mobile, Claro and now T-Mobile port-ins at authorized Boost Indirect Doors". Nothing about MVNOs.

Are you a customer or dealer who has done a port-in from an MVNO and activated the line on Slash Your Bill In Half?

    2. This is what they sent me: Eligible New Subscriber Activations must be port-ins from MetroPCS, T-Mobile (T-Mobile MVNOs also eligible), Cricket, Open Mobile or Claro to a Boost Mobile "Slash Your Payment in Half" Promotional Plan.

    3. That's good, thanks for sharing that information.

  4. wondering if $5 & $10 extra data plan with virgin mobile wifi only plan for $20

    1. Probably not. If you already have the $20 plan, are the Data Packs listed on your My Account page on the Virgin site? If they aren't you can't add them.

  5. How would Boost know what plan you have with the OSP?

  6. It has been a long time since I used Boost. Assuming you are in strong coverage, how are the 3g, LTE and Spark speeds? Do they still have a problem with dropped calls? Is sending and receipt of text messages reliable? I have no land line. Would you trust Boost for all your communications needs?
