Boost Promos Give New and Current Customers Account Credits, Phone Discounts and More Data

In what looks like an all out push to gain new and retain existing customers, Sprint's Boost Mobile launched a bunch of new promotions today. From now until Sept 30 new and existing customers can get various combinations of free or discounted phones, free months of service or an extra 2 GB of data per month.

Boost is calling the promos JOIN (for new activations), SWITCH (for port-ins) and UPGRADE (for current customers). Here are the details of each:

JOIN: New customers activating a new Boost line of service (no port in required) on a monthly plan can get $50 to $70 off the price of select new phones plus a free month of service. Or they can get $100 off iPhones and Samsung Galaxies without the free month. Eligible phones and discounts are:
  • $50 off the $99.99 HTC Desire 510 and a free month
  • $70 off the $99.99 Moto E, Kyocera Hydro ICON, Kyocera Vibe or LG Tribute 2 and a free month
  • $100 off all Samsung Galaxy phones and iPhones priced at $200 or more (no free month)
The free month of service comes in the form of an account credit. The customer gets half the credit during their 2nd month of service and the other half during their third month.

The JOIN offers can't be combined with any Boost Mobile Port-in Promotion or rebate promotion.

SWITCH: New customers who port a number to Boost from a non-Sprint based operator and activate on any Boost Mobile monthly plan can get a free basic smartphone or a credit of $100 to $150 dollars toward a more expensive device. Options are:
  • Free Nokia Lumia 635, LG Tribute 2, Kyocera Icon, ZTE Speed, Moto E LTE, Kyocera Vibe or LG Volt,
  • $100 off the $129.99 ZTE Warp Sync, $129.99 Samsung Prevail LTE, $154.99 CPO Samsung Galaxy 3, $279.99 CPO iPhone 5c or $329 CPO iPhone 5s
  • $150 credit toward the $249.99 Samsung Galaxy S III, $329.99 Samsung Galaxy S4, $499.99 Samsung Galaxy S4, $649.99 Samsung Galaxy S5, $299.99 iPhone 5c 8GB, $349.99 iPhone 5c 16 GB, $449.99 iPhone 5s 16 GB, $549.99 iPhone 6 16 GB or $649.99 iPhone 6 Plus 16 GB
With these discounts you can pick up a Galaxy S4 for $179.99 or an iPhone 5c 16 GB for $199.99. This promotion ends Sept 30. It's only available at Boost Dealers and can't be combined with any other device discount promotion or port-in promotion.

UPGRADE: For current customers who have been with Boost for at least 60 days can get their choice of:
  • A new Boost Mobile Moto E, Kyocera Hydro ICON, Kyocera Vibe or LG Tribute 2 for $29.99.
  • An HTC Desire 510 for $49.99.
  • $100 off all Samsung Galaxy phones and iPhones priced at $200 or more.
All the above promotions are available only at Boost dealers (dealer locater) not online or at national retailers like BestBuy, Target or Walmart.

2 GB of high speed data for life: All customers who have been on a current Boost monthly plan for at least 90 days can get an additional 2 GB per month of FREE high-speed data by texting BOOST2GB from their device to 8005.

After the customer texts BOOST2GB to 8005 they will receive a text with a link to the promotion's eligibility rules. Within 40 days, customers will receive another text advising if they qualify for the offer which qualifying customers will begin receiving within their next 2 billing cycles.

Customers get to keep the extra 2 GB for as long as they stay on their existing monthly plan This offer is available to all Boost monthly plan customers and does not require a store visit.

Update: Boost customers on any Boost monthly plan except the Slash Your Data in Half plans are eligible for the 2 GB of extra high speed data promotion. I had my doubts that grandfathered plan users would be eligible for the promo until a user sent the screenshots below showing that he is on a grandfathered Shrinkage plan and the reply that he got from Boost confirming the extra 2 GB after he texted BOOST2GB to 8005.

These promotions are in addition the ongoing Slash Your Bill in Half promo that gives customers porting from T-Mobile, T-Mobile MVNOs and Puerto Rico's Claro and Open Mobile half priced service for their first year and an HTC Desire 510 for $49.99.

  1. Seems rare that these promos reward the loyalty of existing customers too (and this criticism applies to cable operators. newspapers, and many other services/subscriptions.

    Attaboy, Boost!

  2. RE: the Slash you bill in half, do you have to get the Desire 510 for $49.99? I've already got the Cricket version.

    1. The Desire 510 is discounted, but you can use any Boost smartphone with Slash Your Bill in Half except WiMax phones and BlackBerrys.

The Cricket Desire 510 won't work on Boost.

    2. all of the options say or- so you either choose the discounted price for the phones or the slash your bill in half- i hope that helps.

  3. Hey Dennis. Does that BOOST2GB also included with grandfathered plans?

    1. Probably not. The promo terms say thge customer must have been on CURRENT monthly plan for at least 3 months to be eligible. Send the text anyway, you have nothing to lose.

    2. yes, it does work, but if you switch phones they make you changes plans, therefor causing you to lose the extra

  4. I'm still waiting for Boost to offer group rates and roaming. Would it kill them to offer a proper BYOD program? Right now, Cricket is still a better deal because you get better coverage and BYOD.

  6. avail yourself of the Slash Your Bill in Half promotion and take the $150 phone credit without buying the phone? I would rather use my Sprint G2 and keep the $150 account credit if possible.
    Thanks.

  7. Dennis I'm unclear if the Switch promotion can be combined with the Slash Your Bill in Half promotional rate plans. Can you clarify:

"It's only available at Boost Dealers and can't be combined with any other device discount promotion or port-in promotion."

    And

"These promotions are in addition the ongoing Slash Your Bill in Half promo that gives customers porting from T-Mobile, T-Mobile MVNOs and Puerto Rico's Claro and Open Mobile half priced service..."

    Thanks.

    1. The Switch promotion can't be combined with Slash Your Bill in Half. If you qualify for both you have pick one or the other.

  8. Is it true that they require the activation on the $45 plan for getting the switch 150 credit? That's what i heard from boost today.

    1. The $35 plan is eligible. See Switch | Mobile for terms. "Requires activation on monthly plan $35 or greater".

      1) On a $40 Shrinkage plan
      2) Boost sent you a text saying you will get the 2 GB of bonus data.
I will update the post to say that users on the grandfathered plans are eligible for the extra 2 GB of high speed data promotion after all.

  11. I bought a lg stylo an on my receipt it says 150.01$ boost rebate does that mean I can get that amount back?

    1. No, the switcher rebate mentioned in this post ended sept 30 and it was for a maximum of $100.

The only current Boost promotion I know if is if you buy a phone boostmobile.com you can get a $50 account credit if you activate it by porting a number from a non-Sprint based operator.

    2. Maybe it was an instant rebate. How much did you pay for the LG?

  12. I'm due for an upgrade boost said, would I be able to get the LG stylo at a discount or only on selected phones? looking for a newer phone but cant afford a 200.00 dollar phone right now.

    1. I don't know what Boost offered you. If they made the offer when you called them about an issue or porting out they may have made a special "retention" offer that's not available to the general public. If that's the case only a Boost rep can tell you the details of the offer.

If you were offered the upgrade by a Boost dealer, there's a dealer only promotion that lets customers who have been with Boost at least 120 days and have not purchased a new or CPO (Certified pre-owned) phone in the last 120 days discounts on new phones. Under that promotion the LG G Stylo is $99.99 but cheaper phones are also discounted; the Alcatel onetouch Elevate or Huawei Union are $19.99 and the LG Tribute 2, Motorola Moto E or Nokia Lumia 635 are $29.99. See my post Boost Mobile Getting Roaming, Family Plans and New Phone Discounts for a full list if discounted phones.

  13. I really don't how all this works. I am a Premire/VIP customer. I went to a Boost Dealer and inquired about an up grade of some sort. Several phones were shown as final pay ranging from 30.00 to 70.00 Dealer checked on my account and said that I qualify for a 40.00 discount. I choose a LG G Stylo,at 199.00 less my discount of 40. Balance 150.00 and a case. Total 160.00 After reading some of your articles and others, I see that as a stable customer I wasn't given all the credits that A Premire/VIP customer deserves.

    1. Boost is running an upgrade promotion from 4/20 to 7/5 that lets users who have been a customer for at least 120 days and haven't upgraded for at least 120 days a discount on new phones. The discount on the G Stylo is supposed to be $100 so you should have been charged $99.99 under that promotion.

The promotion is only available at participating dealers. Most Boost dealers are independent businesses and don't necessarily participate in all Boost promotions. I doubt there is much you can do about it after the fact although you could try complaining to the dealer or to Boost

    2. Different markets are offering different deals. As Dennis said, most boost dealers are independently owned and dont necessarily have to participate in all promotions. The premier/VIP program just gives you 14 extra days to pay your monthly bill without a shutoff. It doesnt effect eligibility for discounts on devices.

  14. Boost offers the same rates nationally, and despite not covering most of the nation, the company does exist from coast to coast. It really has only one market.

  16. i been with boost over five years they haven't given me shit. I notice from time to time they might give other people a complimentary month but that has never happened for me. The most that has happened for me was a discounted price in buying a new phone and the better discounts go to new customers. It isn't really a deal if your an already existing customer who wants to keep their phone number. Know any phone companies that actually appreciate and reward their customers?

  17. Been a boost prepaid customer for a year with the same phone. Can i get a new or upgrade phone? Free? Or do I just have to buy it at like buying a phone for the first time..thanks.MT

    1. Online you have to pay full price to upgrade a phone. There's a program through Boost Dealers were current customers can get a discount on a new phone but the most of the discounted prices are no better than the prices for phones that are currently discounted online like the ZTE Warp for $79.99.

  18. If your on a family plan (3 phones) is upgrade allowed on all phones? And are there currently any good promos. I am paying for 3 but one is not working and insurance deduction is as much or more then just getting a new or buying used from private seller.

    3. A Boost dealer can tell you if you are eligible for an upgrade discount. Or if you remember when you activated your current phone you are eligible 120 days later.
