Plans and Pricing Revealed For Harbor Mobile's AT&T Relaunch

T-Mobile business reseller Harbor Mobile (888-701-8816) stopped activating new accounts over a month ago leading to lots of speculation about their future. Last week Harbor announced on their Facebook Page that they are switching to reselling AT&T service instead of T-Mobile. Current customers can keep their current T-Mobile based service but all new activations would be on AT&T.

Harbor's Facebook post said that plans and pricing would be changing but didn't reveal what the new plans would look like or when they would be available. However, a customer who emailed Harbor about the changes got a reply with a tentative list of new plans which he posted on HowardForums. I emailed Harbor today and got an almost identical reply, except that mine says that the new service will launch Monday (presumably next Monday Aug 24, 2015). The email reads:

Loren G. (Harbor Mobile)

Aug 20, 12:24 PM

We will launch on Monday and here's a peak at our plans

Although They have not launched, I can give you an idea of what the plan schedule will look like (tentative):

Please note all plans will include UNLIMITED talk and text.

$25.00 - 1gb of high speed data

$30.00 - 2.5 gb of high speed data

$40.00 - 4.5 gb of high speed data

$50.00 - 10gb of high speed data

There is a pending Tablet plan that will be available as well (not sure if it will be upon launch).

I called Harbor to see if I could get more information. The representative I spoke to confirmed that the new AT&T based plans would be available Monday August 24 and said that the plans would be as listed above. She also said that:

  • All plans would have domestic roaming, including data roaming
  • All plans would include unlimited international texting from the US.
  • She didn't know if international roaming would be offered or not.
  • Unlike the T-Mobile plans, music streaming will count against the data cap.
  • The data cap will be a hard limit, unlimited 2G data will no longer be available
  • Tablet Plan price and details are still not available

With these changes, Unless you need really AT&T coverage, Harbor Mobile's new plans don't look are not as good a deal as the T-Mobile based ones were. The only gain is AT&T postpaid coverage, including domestic roaming, at great price points.  Harbor's T-Mobile plans also included domestic roaming, but AT&T with roaming offers even more coverage, especially 3G and LTE coverage, than T-Mobile with roaming. On the other hand, going with AT&T means no more unlimited 2G data and no more unlimited music steaming. I suspect that unlimited international text and 2G data roaming, which is a feature of T-Mobile postpaid, is gone too. For heavy data users the biggest loss is that the $50/month plan, which had unlimited, unthrottled data under T-Mobile will be hard capped at 10 GB/month on AT&T.

As a business reseller, Harbor Mobile service is only available to businesses. Single proprietors are OK, but Harbor does require new customers to supply an EIN or other verification that they have a businesses.

Update 8/24/15: Harbor's AT&T relaunch has been delayed until Wednesday 8/26.  Plans will include unlimited calling and messaging from the US to Canada and Mexico but international roaming will not be available.

  5. 1GB on AT&T postpaid for $25, certainly beats my 500MB on AT&T prepaid for $27.

    Will tax kill the deal?

  6. Does Harbor Mobile pass along taxes and fees or is it like Cricket which does not?

    1. Taxes were $3/month on all T-Mobile plans, I expect them to be the same on AT&T.

    1. FYI you can still sign-up for Harbor's T-Mobile Business Plans. Also does not require an invite code or proof of business. Sign-Up for a plan with the referral code linked in my signature during the last step if you want.

    1. sole proprietary is considered legitimate business as well, and you use your own SSN as the tax ID for that.

  9. no 2g unlimited doesn't sound so good if you truly are selling to business owners... who shouldn't want to lose access to emails etc.. even for a short while... just saying...

    but many may likely disagree..

  10. Interesting tiering. Not bad for AT&T coverage. Is HM postpaid like Consumer Cellular?

    How is their customer service?

    2. Dennis,

      What is the Data Speed?

    3. It's supposed to be full speed, un-throttledAT&T postpaid which averages 15 Mbps on LTE, but can be anywhere fron zero to 100 Mbps depending on location, weather, device, network location etc.

  15. 30 dollars for 2.5gb is a good deal better then cricket wireless. Cricket wireless is 40 dollars and if you do auto pay is 35. still beat cricket.

    1. Cricket has unlimited 2G data. That is worth something to some people, even if the "high speed" data is throttled. I can easily imagine that some people (not everyone, obviously) would prefer Cricket $35 over Harbor $30.

    2. As a Cricket user, I'd consider jumping to Harbor if

      1) They fixed their broken web site which makes the whole company look bad. Go there right now, and it is full of broken links, T-Mobile information, or the publicly-viewable "fail" of promised updates by future deadlines that have long since passed.
      2) The sold to everyone, not just businesses and those able to fake up or borrow an EIN somehow.

    3. Selling to "businesses" is the loophole that allows them to repackage these accounts more cheaply.
