Sold Out! RingPlus Promo For Existing Users 1000 Min, SMS, MB Per Month For Free

Sprint MVNO RingPlus has announced a new promotion for existing RingPlus members. Tomorrow Tuesday Sept. 29 starting at 9 PM PDT, the Future Free Plan Phase 3 with 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1000 MBs of data per month for free will be available to existing RingPlus members "while supplies last".

RingPlus defines an existing member as anyone with an active RingPlus  account prior to 6 PM PDT today 9/28/2015.

Because this promo is for existing members I believe that it will offer an opportunity to switch an existing plan to the Future Free Plan rather than one to activate a new line of service.

RingPlus' initial announcement doesn't say anything about this plan requiring an initial payment. But if it works like RingPlus' previous Future Free plans, users will be required to maintain a cash balance in the account. The balance can be used for overages which are billed at 2 cents per minute, text, or MB and also for phone swaps and phone number changes (99¢), MMS (4¢), roaming (14¢/min, 55¢/MB) and international calls. The credit card on file will be automatically charged $5.00 every time the balance goes to $0.00.

To get the plan members will have to connect their Facebook account to their RingPlus account during the promotion, if they haven't already. The quantity of plans available and the reason for that quantity will be announced tomorrow after 10 AM PDT.

I believe that to link your Facebook account to your RingPlus account you just need to login to your RingPlus Dashboard, click the Your Social Networks button and then click the Connect to your Facebook Account button. See the image above for the location of the button which says "Remove Link" after you have linked to Facebook.

Don't have a FaceBook account? You have 26 hours to create one. I think the only verifiable information needed to create a Facebook account is an email address or phone number. If you are worried about Facebook's privacy or lack thereof there are many services that let you create a disposable email address.

Update 9/28 11PM PDT: RingPlus also announced new paid plans with new names. They are similar to the old paid plans but include more data.

New Names Monthly Price Cellular Minutes SMS Full Speed 4G LTE Data WiFi Calling MMS International SMS Overages
Sweet $9.99 + Tax 700 300 1GB Available
Cherry $19.99 + Tax Unlimited Unlimited 2GB Unlimited
Dolce $29.99 + Tax Unlimited Unlimited 3GB Unlimited
Ruby $39.99 + Tax Unlimited Unlimited 4GB Unlimited
Crème $49.99 + Tax Unlimited Unlimited 6GB Unlimited

Update 9/28 9:12 PM PDT: the promo for existing members sold out in six minutes!

  1. The phrasing used by RingPlus makes it seem that if I don't have my Facebook account linked to my RingPlus account, then I must linked it during the promotion which starts at 9PDT. In other words, it kind of makes it sound like I can't link it an hour before the promotion starts, but I have to wait until the promotion starts at 9PDT.

  3. Nope, the CEO clearly posted that you need to link to your FB account during the promotion if you haven't already. So if you sign up anytime between now and the start of the promotion, that would fit the definition of "have already linked to your FB account," so you don't have to link the account again. That wouldn't even make sense, if it's already linked.

  5. betcha only maybe only 50 or less future plans to be available. my guess most likely a lot less. notice the specific wording of what they say about the 10am announcement. you are going to see a lot of grumbling when they announce the most likely very few quantity and the reason for it. might as well be happy with what you have because they will have very very limited number of these so-called future plans.

  6. Does this plan require a minimum balance or top up?

    1. RingPlus hasn't said but the previous Future Free Plans required users to maintain a non-zero balance.

  7. I am surprised nobody is mentioning the $ 9.99 plan includes 1GB of data ,what it's not free, oh the humanity!! anyway. I have the free 200 minute plan but could never figure data out, it's on the Virgin mobile kyocera Event, talk and text work fine but every time I turn it on it tries to hands free activation .

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For data to work you need to let Hands Free Activation run to completion.

  9. Does anybody beat the $9.99 and $19.99 plans? they seem pretty competitive. 2gigs of data and unlimited t&t for $19.99 ,seems sweet!

Just one more thing, in appreciation of our current paid plan Members, starting midnight Pacific tonight, we will make available newly created paid plans each with an additional GB of data at the same prices, and featuring new names. These are our new paid plans.

  14. You can sign up as a new user, or start a new line if you are willing to link your Twitter account to RingPlus. They say you are giving permission for RingPlus to:
Read tweets from your timeline; See who you follow, and follow new people; Update your profile; and Post tweets for you.
    No thanks.

    3. If they're conducting research on how to piss off current customers they've succeeded. Seriously been waiting all day for this, was logged in at 12pm est and seen the plan available. I selected the plan and it was taking forever to calculate, decided to refresh bad idea. All I got after that was 502 bad gateway, finally got it to load after many refreshes at 12:06 and it said sold out. Tired of their games, I'm cutting my line off after my balance runs out. Switching to freedom pop so I don't get pissed off every time ringplus offers a better plan that doesn't include current users, and then when they do I get screwed.

    4. As soon as my balance runs out I'm done with this circus of a company. Seems like they succeeded at conducting research on how to piss off current customers. Seriously it's absurd, and I'm not alone.

  19. This was nothing more then a publicity stunt to gain new subscriber. Ringplus should be ashame of themselve there was no way in the world they was going to give away hundreds or thousand of free plan. I bet you my paycheck they probably has 20 to give away and that it. I was right there and I can't even log in. That tells you something.

I noticed the singular. From reading the comments, perhaps the goal was to gain one new subscriber. I did get an account, using it now, with all the amazing Sprint uncoverage, but now I wonder if I am the only one who successfully made it through...

  20. It's ridiculous. First they said it's for existing customers only. So people rushed to register their phones. Then they opened up for new customers for a whole day, but those "new customers" were no longer eligible, because their phones were registered the day before. And when it's finally their turn - 502 Bad Gateway, and then SOLD OUT!

    2. RP started going downhill when they deleted an entire Pepper vs Diversity comparison thread on their forum because a few people had the nerve to criticize them. A little googling revealed that sort of thing may have been going on for months. I think just last month someone on SlickDeals was also complaining about censorship.

IMO, Institutions hostile to constructive criticism and self-reflection have never had a good track record when it came to basic competence or being in touch with their customers. This whole 1k plan fiasco, which is like all their other botched promos, is just what happens when businesses only listen to the "yes men" who make them feel warm and fuzzy inside. They never actually improve or grow because there's no internal pressure to.

It also wasn't much of a surprise when the voice quality of my calls slowly worsened, prompting me to bust out my old T-Mobile phone and eventually get one of those cheap Mavens.

On the plus side, my low expectations also allowed me to sleep through the entire promo and avoid the frustration others are feeling right now.

It was a predictable waste of time given RP's hostility to the notion that their methods of interacting with and offering promotions to customers still need a lot of work.

Hopefully they'll make it up to everyone they hyped up and then left out in the cold.

  21. Pretty ridiculous how people around here complain about a FREE service!
You get what you pay for. Sheesh.

And for those of you who think FreedomPop is any better. Ha. Been there, done that. Took six weeks to port my number over even though the FCC has mandated that port requests be completed within one business day. And that was the easy part. Best day of my life was getting out of that mess two months later. All I have to say is, may God have mercy on your soul. You're going to need it.

  25. I can understand disappointment. But I don't understand the vitriol. This is how supply and demand works. It was announced in advance there was a limited number available. Offer a limited supply of a desirable product for free and witness the crush as the whole world contends for it. What did you expect?

  26. Is it even possible to roam on a virgin mobile based phone with Ring+?

  27. What a load of b.s.!
I couldn't log in n when I finally could, I couldn't load the plan change page. By the time I finally was able to get to the plan change page the plan was already sold out! This little stunt reminds me of the Amazon anniversary earlier this year, a whole lotta noise but nothing to offer.

  28. I switched from Virgin Mobile and Freedom Pop to RingPlus over the past year. RingPlus service is much better and more reliable. I have had no problems at all with RingPlus and my cost keeps dropping over the months. I stayed up late and tried but did not get the Future plan last night, but am still thrilled with my VIP Pepper plans on four lines for our family. Thank you RingPlus!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sheesh. Someone has FREE service with RingPlus, then misses out (for whatever reason) on a limited opportunity for improved FREE service, and then complains? People, you are no worse off then you were if the new opportunity hadn't existed. Are you really so petty to begrudge someone else their good fortune?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sheesh indeed.

I started with a completely free plan. Cool! Thanks RingPlus!

Within a month, RingPlus allowed me to upgrade to the better Pepper Plan. My only cost: to put $5 (plus taxes and fees) into my account, of which money $4.99 could be spent at my whim on overages or extra bundles.

Within a month, RingPlus allowed me to upgrade to the better VIP Pepper Plan. My cost: ZERO. Cool! Thanks RingPlus!

Then RingPlus gave me a 50 minute/50MB bonus, usable through December. My cost: ZERO. Cool! Thanks RingPlus!

Within a month, RingPlus allowed me to upgrade to the Future 3 1000/1000/1000 Plan. Yes, I experienced "bad gateway." I shrugged and went to bed, thinking I hadn't gotten the upgrade. But there it was when I woke up in the morning. My cost: ZERO money, but a little lost sleep and some confusion due to the overloaded serviers. Cool! Thanks RingPlus!

TL:DR -- the sense of entitlement that some folks have is absolutely unbelievable...

    2. Count how many times I "got mine" from this generous company. I count 5. I've never once complained, and would never think I have the right to do so. Yet I've seen others who have already =also= gotten loads of freebies be among the loudest complainers.

I was perfectly happy with 1, then 2, then 3, and then 4 give-aways. Each of those times I had gotten more than I had a right to expect from any for-profit carrier, and I was pretty darn happy each time.

When I assumed I didn't get the 5th free goody in less than 3 months, I went to bed without a whimper. I'd been treated more than fairly already.

Even if I'd gotten =no= prior freebies I'd still have just gone to bed without a whimper because I had no right to =expect= something for nothing. It was only a hope, and would have been a privilege to receive it.

Instead, some folks above, and on other forums, are INCENSED that THEY DID NOT GET SOMETHING FOR FREE. Maybe after having already, repeatedly, gotten something for free. Seriously, the number of folks screaming about not getting this deal after having already gotten one of the free plans, or a pepper plan, or an upgrade to a VIP version of a plan, is just sad. They complain about R+ "doing nothing for loyal existing customers." They should really replace the phrase "loyal existing customers" with "persistent freeloaders," because many of those who are complaining have only the free plans (or had to put in a $5 top-up, which they can actually spend down to 1 penny -- same thing). That's not "a customer." That's akin to using all of Google's free services and complaining complaining complaining that such services don't do this or that. Wanting is one thing. Hoping is another. Complaining that what someone gives you for free isn't exactly what you want/complaining that you didn't get something for free? That's just being a whiny baby. You don't deserve it. Move along.

(you = the general anyone pronoun; not any particular poster in this thread).

      -- Source, please?

How many paid-for RingPlus plans do you have? Are you a =paid= subscriber? If you are, I'll tip my hat, because that places you well above the complainers who have 5 FREE plans. I wouldn't consider them "subscribers;" merely freeloaders.

No Fanboi here, just a realist...

  32. The current member 1000/1000/1000 promo was not in our spirit. I have to admit, we miscalculated demand from our current users. RingPlus could not get more than 35% allocated to current members, we tried. I know we have to make it right to you all somehow. My team and I are working on it. Some solutions we've thought about:

    1) We increase data for Pepper to 200 MB and Diversity 500 MB for the East coast (because you guys were up especially late).

    2) We can make the next (last sign up test), which will allow you to sign up without any social network for a new phone, only accessible to existing users. Then, a day later, if anything is left, make it available to new users.

For new lines, we will make it possible for you guys to get a "coupon" so you don't have to run and get a phone. You can activate your new device later with the coupon, but within a week.

    3) .... we are still thinking about about an add-on for free for the West coast.

This is exactly why R+ likes to discuss plans beforehand with our community . Sadly for this research project we couldn't do so. Please remember that projects like this support all users' free plans financially. The source of income for R+ comes in the form of advertisement and research. This is a key revenue driver which allows us to offer all free plans.
