Another RingPlus Promo 1000 Free Minutes, Texts and MBs Per Month For iPhone, HTC 510 and T-Mobile Customers Only

Here we go again. Sprint MVNO Ring Plus Mobile is running another free plan promotion..

The good news is that this promo, which RingPlus calls Future Plan (Phase 5) will be open for a long time, 34 hours in all and it includes a generous 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1000 MB of data per month for free.

The bad news is that it has a pretty severe limitations:
  • To be eligible you must activate either a Sprint iPhone or an HTC Desire 510, unless you are porting a number from T-Mobile USA or a T-Mobile MVNO in which case you can use any Sprint compatible phone .
Both new and current members are eligible as long as they meet the phone type requirement or port a new number from T-mobile.  There's a $7.99 fee for porting a number to RingPlus.

Future Plan (Phase 5) will be available from tonight Friday 10/2 at 11 PM PT until Saturday 10/3 8 PM PT and again Sunday 10/4 from 9 AM to 10 PM PT

You need to supply a credit or debit card when you sign up. The card will be charged $10, plus taxes and fees averaging about 20%. The $10 will be applied to your account to cover overages (2¢/ minute, MB or text), MMS (4¢ each), international calls etc. If you balance reaches zero you account will automatically be topped up another $10.

Update 10/3: Appartently the RingPlus system is allowing customers to activate the Future Plan with phones that are not iPhones or HTC 510's.  Don't do it. RingPlus CEO Karl Seelig has posted the following on the Discourse forum:

I just got notice from IT that a lot of members are switching who don't have an iPhone or HTC Desire. That's ok as long you port in a T Mobile number by Monday 12PM PDT. But please don't do it if you are not going to port. It will leave a bad taste for those members when they get switched back, and it harms our relationships with other third parties. To sell research and ads we have to show that we all trust each other.

And:

If the rules of any plan are broken, the telephone line will be switched to a designated default plan (which is currently the Truly Free plan). The Member then has the opportunity to change to any then available plan. This gives Members the opportunity then to chose one of the current offerings.

Update 10/3 5:20PM PDT:  RingPlus just posted this on Discourse:

Update on the Current Promotion

We have reached our Member upgrade allotment for Future Phase 5.

The switching / port in option allotment for existing members is exhausted. Hence it’s now closed.

We are aware that some Members switched to Future Phase 5, and haven’t ported in yet from T-Mobile. If you have no intention to port in a T Mobile number by Monday (10/5) at noon, please switch back to the Jasmine plan, VIP Pepper, Free plan, or regular Pepper. All the free plans will be available at 5pm PDT today for switching back.

This will free up spaces again, and allow us to allocate the allotment for people who would qualify, and would like to switch with a regular port in from T mobile during the weekend.

Sign ups for new accounts will remain open (under Future Phase 6 – the Volunteer trials explained below). As stated before, the number of new sign ups is closely related to the number of switching allotments that we can give current members.

We are also opening the brand new Future Phase 6 The Volunteer trials. Here’s how it works:

Every new member or existing Member can sign up as long he or she opens a new line without deactivating an old line. (one line per physical person). Every phone is eligible.

Update 10/4 4:45 PM PT:
  • Ringplus has extended the Future Free Plan: Phase 6 for new activations only until Monday 10/5 10 PM PT. It includes 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1000 MB of data per month for free and requires $10 top up at activation and whenever the account balance reaches zero. Details here.

  1. wow. could port my ptel number to ringplus. been paying just $10 every couple months for the ptel. the ringplus $10 is like that as far as my wallet is concerned. but instead of paying every 2months, may instead probably pay the $10 less often. tempting but don't have an extra sprint phone to use.

    1. What Sprint iPhone are allowed and can you still swap phones and keep the plan and lastly can you already have a 1k future plan and still be eligible for this?

      Delete
    2. Any Sprint iPhone that passes the RingPlus MEID checker can be used. If you switch to a phone that's not an iPhone or HTC 510 you will likely lose the Future Free plan.

  2. Looks like you can switch to Future on existing lines that don't meet the stated requirements.

It may have cost me a promo plan if Future overrode the scheduled switch and eventually gets cancelled.

    Thanks, Ringplus.

  3. Will the virgin mobile HTC 510 work?

  4. Just two three clicks after RingPlus login to upgrade my plan to Future Phase 5 for my iPhone line. You do NOT have to activate another iPhone to get Phase 5.

  5. Wonder if my under-the-radar Virgin Mobile iPhone that I currently have activated on the VIP Pepper plan would qualify?

  6. If you are from MO, see the end of the promo announcement: "....(for current iphone users, just switch)"

    1. You can have both a Future Plan 5 and an earlier Future Plan on the same account. However the rule of only one free plan per physical person applies. As long as the two phones are for different people you should be OK.

    2. does it ( different people ) include kids ?

  8. Does porting fee occurs or free?

  13. T-Mobile should learn from this and sell their SIM cards for 95 cents for two days, 97 cents for the next three days and then one dollar for two days. Then no special for a day, then $1 per SIM if you tweet about T-Mobile, etc. Lots of free advertising.

    1. You would be surprise at all the interest there is when T-Mobile prepaid sims are onsale for $1. For what particular reason? I have no idea. People must be just buying them on impulse.

As far as RingPlus goes, the reason for all the promos is the company want to reach a critical mass number of subscribers. That way, they are more attractive to advertisers or other 3rd parties who would do business with them.

    2. RingPlus also becomes more attractive to purchase by a competitor. In a prepaid market the purchaser has no obligation to continue the plans past the already paid for cycle for each customer. I'm not saying that's Karl's exit strategy but I'm sure he has one. .

  14. I signed up for the Future Plan using a old Virgin Mobile ZTE Awe phone. I was surprised I was able to sign up and then I read that the account will most likely be canceled on Monday. I'm assuming I will also lose my $10?
Also, When my VM phone updated the Profile and PRL I lost my Google Services. None of my Google apps work, no Play Store access etc. I reset the phone and that did not fix the problem. Any idea why I'm having problems with Google apps? When I start my phone I now get the Sprint splash screen.

    1. You shouldn't lose your balance but your account will probably get downgraded to Truly Free Plan. Try switching to another plan if you don't want Truly Free.

Remove and re-add your Google account on the phone, clear cache and data from any apps that don't work, update Play Services if prompted.

  15. I think the wheels are going to come off.

"If a person visits RingPlus and just hits Sign UP/Plans they are given the Future 5 with no disclaimer. We know alot about the requirements as we visit the Discourse. That alone will cause many to join with whatever phone they have (which would ONLY be qualified under the Tmobile aspect of the plan)-"
There are so many signing up that have no real clue that their are many requirements. It is the same if you go to your dashboard and click upgrade plan. The only caveat is that their is a $10 top up and you can sign up.

They have dumb and dumber for Marketing and PR

  18. Strange... I have two Sprint iPhone 4 phones currently on VIP Pepper, but when I try to upgrade the plan, I do not see the Future Plan option. I only see this plan if try to activate a NEW line, but not upgrade from a current line. It's 7:08 PT and seems like it would be too late in trying to get this resolved.

    1. Per R+ discourse Future Phase 5 (which would allow an upgrade to a current line) ended already. Ended early, before their originally stated end time. Phase 6 does not allow upgrade of any current line.

in your Update 10/4 4:45 PM PT:

Shouldn't it be Future Phase 6 (not 3)?

I am not seeing the extension to Mon. on Future phase 6???? Link still says Sun. 10pm pacific?

    ReplyDelete

    1. OK thanks, you changed typo from Future phase 3 to 6 and I see where they say through Mon. on the page you now linked to that has all three plans but on this page they didn't update the date like they did on the individual pages for Jasmine & VIP Pepper

    2. Yeah it's Phase 6 not 3 and you are right about the page I linked to saying it ends tonight.

The Monday extension is posted here on ringpule.net and also on Twitter. But RingPlus is pretty unpredictable and I believe all the promos are "while supplies last". I recommend jumping on them as soon as possible.

    3. Thanks Dennis.

Very true, unpredictable is a very good description on many aspects @ ringplus.
