Prepaid Phones On Sale This Week Oct 11 - Oct 17

Welcome to Prepaid Phone News' regular Sunday Prepaid Phones on Sale this Week post featuring all the best current US prepaid and unlocked phone deals.

This week's Deal of the Week is the brand new unlocked Motorola Nexus 6 32 GB for $299.99 with free shipping on eBay. The particular deal ends tomorrow. If you miss it, there's a good chance the Nexus 6 will be relisted at the same price. If not. Amazon has it for $349.99.

Last year's Nexus originally sold for $649.99. It has a 6 inch 1440 x 2560 px OLED screen, 2.7 Ghz Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 13 MP camera with auto-focus and flash, and a 2 MP front-facing camera.

The Nexus 6 is compatible with all four US national carriers and all their current bands. There's support for 12 different LTE bands in all, plus penta-band 3G, quad band GSM and tri-band CDMA.

As a member of Google's Nexus family the Nexus 6 is unlocked and runs pure Android without any carrier bloatware. It's easy to root and the bootloader is unlockable if you are into rooting and ROMing.

  1. I'm afraid of phones like this because tmobile apps like Wifi calling and hotspot I can't get to work, I love the price and specs though.

  2. Anybody know if the Tmobile lg g2 still has voice issues/echoes on hangouts or is it just my at&t version, I'm on Tmobile now and would love to have the Tmobile lg g2 but i rely on hangouts to much and it works pretty well on my tmobil sg4.

    1. My T-Mobile G2 had a bad echo problem on KitKat. The stock Lollipop update completely fixed it.

    2. Dennis, by the way, how many active phone lines do you have going with all your mobiles? I might be wrong in guessing, but your extensive personal experience implies several.

      Delete
    3. I currently have lines on PTel, T-Mobile Prepaid, RingPlus and two on FreedomPop. I also manage lines on TracFone (AT&T BYOP), RingPlus and Virgin Mobile for family members. In the past I've used or managed PagePlus, GoPhone, Boost Mobile, Airvoice and Red Packet GSMA lines.

    4. Wow, what do you do with all of them... the ones that aren't for the family?

  3. I got the Sprint Pre-paid Moto E listed here last week, and was able to activate it on one of the RingPlus plans (despite some saying that new phones won't work on it). $39.95. Such a deal. I had problems getting it working, which had nothing to do with the phone's eligibility and all to do with the RingPlus site's poor on-page wording and bad error checking of payment options.

Thanks, Dennis, for the plethora of useful information and advice found here.

  4. Thanks Dennis, I didn't know the G2 had Lollipop, so you know if the Tmobile refurb one is on lollipop, like I said I really love the G2, especially the battery life and display are both better than my Galaxy s4

    1. I don't know what version the G2 refurb ships with but if it's not Lollipop it's pretty easy to update whether you are on T-Mobile or not. I was rooted by the time Lollipop came out so I updated with a flashable zip from XDA

    2. Love my G2 also (At&T D800 variant). Was on Cricket, now Tracfone BYOP. Not a Hangouts user but I can tell you that my rooted G2 with custom lollipop rom performs beautifully with very good battery life. Check out Ground Zero Roms via Google+....several options of stable roms to choose from.

    1. What percentage of negative feedback do yo consider acceptable?

      Delete
    2. You have to go out of your way to have feedback that bad on eBay.

Consider it is a one in thirty chance the seller will blow it, and not only that and refuse to resolve the problem. Seems kind of low, but compared to conscientious ebay sellers, where there might be a one in 300 chance of something going wrong, that's rpetty bad.

Move on, you will find decent sellers with much better ratings.

      Delete
    3. I see the problem - you can't do math. Mobilepros1 has a complaint rate of 1/44, not 1/30. All it takes is a few flamers - 23 out of 1000 to get that rating. You focus on the 23 (33 using your faulty math), but that means 977 had a positive experience! I have bought 10 phones from them, and one came without a SIM tray, a problem they fixed right away. You would say: "A 10% complaint rate! How awful!" But the company handled it very well, and every phone they sent me was as described or better. They are an excellent source based on my experience and 977 people out of every 1000 overall. Nothing to complain about, especially in the world of refurbished cellphones.

      Delete
    4. I do see the problem. It is a bad dealer. A much worse problem rate than the good dealers, and this only happens when the seller flat out refuses to solve a lot of problems. I have a lot of eBay experience. And a seller has to go out of their way to be bad enough to have below a 99% rating.

Good sellers never have something like this

"Phone was faulty, returned phone, seller never refunded even after MANY emails."

Good sellers, and I am one, answer the first email quickly.

      Delete
    5. So you compete with them, and we are supposed to believe that this high-volume dealer selling refurbs and some new phones with 97.7% is a "bad dealer." They are VERY successfully because they have all the phones people want and sell at low prices, with good warranty and excellent customer service. I guess you can't match them, so you put them down. Any experienced seller on eBay (like me) knows that a few flakes can hurt your rating. You know the type. They don't pay, or bounce an eCheck, then try to get out of the sale. "My 4-year old bought this on eBay and paid with my PayPal," or "I just lost my job." (on a Sunday). When you don't go along, IAW your ad policy and file a dispute/claim, they suddenly get their job back and find the money. Then they give you the worst rating. It's just the price of doing business on eBay. Sellers can't rate flakes or any buyers. eBay virtually never cancels a bad rating, even where the buyer has no trail to support it.

      Delete
    6. I don't compete with them in the same market, but others do and have much better ratings. I know very well that a pre rating like they have is due to poor service. I know from experience that you can get bad eBay feedback from real "flakes" removed (I've hss rhis dinr many times) so if you have feedback comments like the one above, about blowing off emails many times, rest assured they are a real.

Yes, 97% is bad, because it is direct evidence of negligence, and there are much better ones out there.

There are plenty of huge volume phone dealers with much better than 99% ratings on eBay who never mistreat customers. Buyer beware.

      Delete
    7. Even so, it's amazing how some sellers seem to attract a lot more "flakes" than others.

      Delete
    8. A 99% rating means 10 people out of 1000 had a negative experience. Mobilepros1 had 23 people report that. Hardly "negligence;" "bad;" "much worse" "poor service" "mistreat customers" or not "conscientious." This is all probably just a silly rant by a weak mobilepros1 competitor who probably holds a grudge, or is jealous of the thousands of phones they sell at excellent prices.

      Delete
    9. If they weren't negligent, they would respond to the inordinate number of so-called "flakes" (cough, wronged customers, cough)..

Proportion wise, MobilePros mistreats 2 or 3 times as many customers as the good ones on eBay with 99.5% percent or so feedback.

Who wants to be one one customer out of thirty who gets a bad phone and then MobilePros refuses to rectify it? The odds are much better elsewhere.

There are too many good sellers, to slum with one like this. It's not a grudge. I just have enough eBay experience to know that customer service this bad is easilly avoided.

      Delete
    10. At random, I looked around on eBay to see phone sellers much better than MobilePros, to see if it matched my experience over years, still, that an eBay rating as low as 97% is substandard.

It's not hard to find other sellers that are much better. Not at all. I found one who sells phones and cases, with total feedback closing in on 10,000 named "eastgermanshowgirl", with 99.5%.... which is very very good, and only of the chance of a bad deal as one has with MobilePros.

And you find out another huge difference in the customer service if you look at their very small number of negative feedbacks. MOST of the negative feedback entries have a reasonable-sounding response to attempt to explain why the customer had a problem.

It's a huge contrast to the approach seen in high-negative negligent sellers like MobilePros and similar ones.... by not bothering to answer or comment the negative feedback, which is so often (ironically) about the company not bothering to answer, they pretty much prove every single one of these to not be a flake.

Where the east german one tries to deal with most negative feedbacks, MobilePros deals with none at all. Aside from the much better feedback, this is the difference between good sellers and substandard ones.

    11. Most people don't shop for an eBay or Amazon dealer with the highest rating, then settle for the phone that that is closest to what they want. They shop for the phone they want, then compare prices. When prices are close, they compare buyer ratings. It's a very competitive business, and mobilepros1 wins tens of thousands of sales. You continue to mis-state their annual rating, rounding 97.7% down to 97%, which is the only way you can invent 1 buyer out of 30 as having a problem. 97.7% means 1 buyer out of 44 reported a negative experience over the past year. If you round to the nearest percent (for whatever reason?) it would mean a 98% rating, or 1/50 buyers with a problem. 20 people out of every 1000 sales. Mobilepros1 has an even better rating over the past six months; only 17.5 buyers per 1000 sales reported a negative experience. And of course a negative experience report does NOT mean that mobilepros1 ignored all those buyers' problems. It still looks like you have an agenda since you distort the buyer feedback rating, making it look worse than it really is.

      Delete
    12. Page through their negative feedback and let me know when you find customer problems they DIDN'T ignore. ..

      Delete
    13. It's really worse than has been been discussed: there are half as many neutrals as negative. And, as with the negatives, the company ignored all the customers' problems also.

Ignoring all customer problems is real bad no matter what the feedback percentage.

      Delete
    14. Did you even read the reports? Only 2 people on the first page of 25 negative feedback reports for mobilepros1 said they were ignored.

      Delete
    15. Mobilepros1 feedback rating just went up to 97.8%. Customer satisfaction is really BETTER than that, because many satisfied customers do not bother to give a feedback rating. The rating is based only on the feedback reports submitted, so it is worse than the actual customer satisfaction percentage.

  6. I've purchased 3 phones from Mobilepros1 out of NJ in the last 2 years., they shipped in 2 days and were better than described and one that was described in excellent condition was actually brand new int he box sealed up, they even threw in accessories not in the description (case and car charger), I am one of the very satisfied.

  7. You buy from BestBuy/Amazon, they will back it

You buy from mobilepro - you roll those dice, take your chance, nuff said

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes... it's a bad sign when you get high negatives at mobilepro, and they obviously don't care as they don't post responding comments.

I've had my best luck on eBay with those with feedback in the low thousands, 100% positive. They handle stuff personally and actually try to resolve problems.

      Delete
    2. "You buy from BestBuy/Amazon, they will back it"

Best Buy is the safest, most painless. Because you can take it back within a couple of weeks if you don't like it.

      Delete
    3. Selection and price are important. Best Buy is only good for new entry-level Android and older model Android phones when they are on sale. It is a poor source for bargains on iPhones.

  8. Mobile pros is from the few reputable sellers I save in my eBay. When they write new it's actually new. Most others are not as described.
