Cricket Announces Holiday Offers Including Free Phones for Port-Ins

Cricket Happy Holidays
As the first part of what's expected to be a two part holiday promotion, AT&T's Cricket Wireless brand has cut the prices of several of its phones and launched a new port-in promotion.

The following phones are getting a price cut:
The sale prices apply to new or current customers.  Payment for one month's service is required at time of purchase.

The port-in promotion gives customers porting a number to Cricket a free phone after a mail-in rebate. To qualify, customers must port a number from a non-AT&T based operator, purchase a phone priced between $19.99 and $50, activate it on a $40 or higher plan and make their second month's payment within 45 days of activation. Cricket will mail qualifying customers a prepaid Visa gift card equal to the price of the phone within eight weeks. The rebate offer is not available in CT, RI or Miami-Dade County, Florida. The port-in promotion ends 1/7/16.

The following phones are free after the port-in rebate:
  • Nokia Lumia 635 LTE Windows Phone, was $29.99, now $19.99, free after rebate
  • LG Risio LTE Android phone, was $49.99, now $29.99, free after rebate
  • ZTE Sonata 2 Android phone $29.99, free after rebate
  • ZTE Overture 2 LTE Android phone $39.99, free after rebate
  • Motorola Moto E 4G LTE Android phone, was $79.99, now $49.99, free after rebate
Cricket is also offering porting customers both a discount and a $50 rebate on a couple of higher priced phones:
  • Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime reg $99.99 - $20 instant port-in discount - $50 mail in rebate = $29.99
  • LG G Stylo LTE Android phablet reg $149.99 - $50 instant port-in discount - $50 mail in rebate = $49.99
On their Facebook page, Cricket is teasing that there will be an additional promotion announced latter today. Speculation has it that the second promotion might be the return of the $60/month "Advanced" plan that includes 20 GB of high speed data instead of the normal $60 "Pro" plan's 10 GB. Of course it could be something completely different. Check Prepaid Phone News later today to see what develops.

    1. No problem with my cricket rebates. I was hoping that they something had better than these port-in deals .

    2. Cricket wireless rebates are honorable. Read the fine print, meet requirements and you should be good.

    3. I've heard of some having problems, but I've had good luck with the different switching, new account referral etc credits. I've gotten from Cricket. It took a long time to receive them, but no longer than they explicitly told said at the beginning in their descriptions.

    4. Take a look at Howard Forums' Cricket forum. There are multiple threads on rebate experiences--mostly bad.

  2. No. You have to save every scrap of paper, and contact their Zendesk service dept. (The phone support is significantly worse, for some reson - stick to Zendesk)

    1. Their new system is entirely online (nothing to mail in) and is supposedly much improved. That said, even though I also had problems with Cricket's mail-in rebates in the past, they were always relatively good about getting them corrected once I contacted the Zendesk. Just don't waste your time dealing with normal customer service -- EVER. Low cost / high value MVNOs have to cut corners somewhere and Cricket without a doubt does that with their customer service.

    2. My sister had to contact zendesk and they were worse than useless. I say worse because they accomplished nothing except wasting her time. The third time around contacting Zendesk, after the first two didn't get her anything except false promises it would arrive soon, was in May or June. They gave her a phone number to call and they didn't do anything either, except string her along and tell her she would get her rebate soon. Now it's November and they still haven't paid the rebate Cricket STILL OWES HER but they're getting ready to scam another bunch of suckers.

They should replace their cartoon mascot with Admiral Ackbar.

  3. Don't cancel service or port your number to another carrier untill they mail the rebate out or you won't get it. It happen to me. I was with them and port my number out after making my second paymnet a week later. before they approve my rebate. they said i never made 2nd payment which i did.

  4. "Speculation has it that the second promotion might be the return of last year's $60 "Pro" plan that included 20 GB of high speed data instead of the normal 10 GB."

The 20GB plan was called "Advanced" and was offered in Spring 2015.

    2. You didn't try very hard kemosabe: Are they not offering the 20GB for $60 promotion again? Are they not offering free / unlimited Facebook data promotion?

    3. Hi yo, Silver. What are you trying to say? That they are offering these?

  7. You're right, the 20 GB plan was the Advanced Plan. It launched 1/30/15.

  8. The 20gb plan is only good if you use alot of data and don't mind paying 60 a month. I on the other hand never go over 3gb and like to keep my bills under 30 a month with tmobile with tmobile 30 plan that you get 5gb.

    1. You also only get 100 minutes of voice (non-voip).

    2. Which is why most people prefer the cricket $35 plan.

  9. I have family who still hasn't received her rebate from last year's promo. The Cricket website says she satisfied all the requirements and was approved. However, they won't give it to her.
