Updated - Verizon Giving Users 1 GB of Data For Free, Prepaid NOT Included!

Thanksgetting 1 GB of Free Data From Verizon
Verizon Wireless is running a Thanksgiving themed promotion that gives users a a free gigabyte of data this month and another free gigabyte next month.

Verizon is calling the promo Thanksgetting and it apparently applies to both postpaid and prepaid Verizon Wireless customers. There are no guarantees but a Prepaid Phone News user with a Verizon Prepaid plan just tried it and reported that they got the free data.

Update 4:10 PM PST 11/19: It looks this deal is dead. A second Prepaid Phone News reader tried and failed to get the free GB of data. He called Verizon support and was told that prepaid customers were not eligible for any of the Thanksgetting offers.

To get yours go to verizonwireless.com/thanksgetting/ and click the Get It Now link. Based on the countdown clock on the Verizon page the offer is good until 9 PM PST on Wednesday Nov. 25.

Verizon's Thanksgetting page lists a bunch of other promos that give customers a free $5 iTunes Gift Card, free books, music, movies and apps from Amazon, $20 off a Lyft ride, a free 30 day Pandora trial, free Boingo airport WiFi and free GoGo inflight WiFi. These other offers don't go live until Nov 25. The free gig of data offer is live now so get it while it lasts.

  1. Now this is tempting -- Get the $45/1GB Plan at Walmart + the current Walmart 2X data promotion = 2GB + the auto-pay extra gig = 3GB + the extra gig from this Thanksgetting promotion = 4GB on Verizon for $45/month... that's pretty hard to beat if everything works out how it should.

    1. Only for 2 months though. After that it's 3 gigs again.

  2. The "Thanksgetting" free 1GB of data promotion does not work on Verizon Prepaid for me. It asks for you to login to your account and then just takes you to MyVerizon and does not add the 1GB. Tried multiple times. I talked to a Verizon customer service representative on their online chat, and they confirmed that it is only for Contract/Postpaid accounts. The Verizon representative also said that prepaid customers did not qualify for the other "Thanksgetting" offers. I will try the other offers on the 25th just to be sure, but it doesn't look promising.

  3. Yep that's Verizon. And on the next bill there will be a fee for eating too much turkey too.

  4. I am on postpaid (no contract) and got my yesterday. I have a family plan with Verizon and it is my best option than separate individual lines.
But, Dennis, I like to keep up with your site frequently because prepaid is more relevant each passing day. With the affordable cost of good used smartphones on eBay , Amazon, and Swappa, phone contracts will continue to go the way of the horse and buggy.

    1. Those "good used affordable phones" are available because many use the contract plans. That's where the "good used affordable phones come from.

    2. Contracts are dying, but only about 25% of subscribers are on prepaid plans. Phone lease returns, trade-in/up programs, installment purchase plan phones and resale of new phones purchased for prepaid use will keep the supply of used phones flowing. These phones should be more than enough to support the growing prepaid cellphone service market. For example, 63% of iOS users have already upgraded to an iPhone 6 or 6S model or the Plus versions. Millions of earlier iPhones are being used for prepaid service, are unused or were exported overseas.
