Boost and Virgin Mobile Getting $179.99 Samsung Galaxy J3 and $99.99 LG Tribute 5 Jan 18

Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy J3

A newsletter sent to Boost Mobile dealers reveals details and pricing for two a new mid range phones for both Boost and Virgin Mobile as well as an in-store sale on the iPhone 5s.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 is coming to Boost and Virgin Mobile Jan 18 for $179.99. It features:

  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 5" 720 x 1280px Super AMOLED Display
  • 5 MP main camera and 2 MP front facing camera with flash for taking selfies in the dark
  • Tri-band Enhanced LTE
  • 1.5 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, 1 and support for microSD cards up to 128 GB
  • 2600 mAh removable battery
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor

The newsletter also indicates that the LG Tribute 5, which was announced at CES, will launch Jan 18 for $99.99 and will be available on Virgin Mobile as well as Boost.
The Tribute 5 is a Boost and Virgin Mobile exclusive version of a phone that's known as the LG K7 in other markets. It's specs are listed as:

  • 5" 854 x 480px IPS Display
  • 5 MP main camera and 5 MP front facing cameras. The announcement doesn't mention the Tribute 5 as having the K7's front facing flash, however.
  • Tri-band Enhanced LTE
  • 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory, and support for microSD cards up to 32 GB
  • 2125 mAh battery (presumably non-removable)
  • 1.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor

In addition, the Apple iPhone 5s 16 GB is on sale at selected "Apple Approved" Boost Mobile dealers for $149.99 now through Mar 31, while supplies last. The iPhone 5s is also available online from Boost and Virgin at the same $149.99 price. The sale price is a huge discount from Apple's current $450 price. Apple is rumored to be launching a new 4" iPhone to replace the 5s in March so the price cut may be Apple and Sprint trying to clear out 5s inventory.

  3. Garbage camera for the Samsung phone. At that price you can get a better phone. Also no 6.0? Fail.

  4. Don't really see the point to another entry level phone and as for the Samsung, The ZTE Warp Elite seems like a better phone for the same money. I'm no ZTE fan but the reviews seem to suggest it is better than their usual offerings. Add to that the fact that I have had bad experiences with other Samsung "Galaxy" phones that weren't S class and I too would pass on these.

  10. Dennis, you mentioned the iPhone 5s is available at select Boost Mobile dealers till March 31st? Where did you hear this?

Just curious because I ended up ordering online because it stated on their website the iPhone 5s was:

"Promotional pricing available only for select phones directly from boostmobile.com. Limited time only, while supplies last."

    1. It's in the January edition of "The Beat", an email newsletter that's sent to Boost dealers every month listing current promotions.

  11. I agree with the previous commenters, the ZTE Warp Elite is THE best spec'd low price phone, much better than these two new crappy phones. ZTE Warp Elite has 2 gigs RAM, much larger battery, and larger screen.

    2. Just get the zte warp elite bigger screen, higher resolution, more ram, almost stock android as opposed to samsungs bloatware slowing your phone down.

    3. I posted the original post saying that the ZTE Warp Elite seemed like a better phone than the Samsung for the same money. I forgot to mention that my sister-in-law has the Elite. She got it about 5 months ago. This is the first phone (of any kind) that she hasn't had any problems with. She's one of those technology-challenged people that everything electronic she touches turns to... well... you know. Not the Elite. At least not so far. That tells me something.

    4. Check the specs:

Not a bad phone, really. I'm surprised.

  12. Wow, what a rip off. Why don't they get some SD615 devices instead of stockpiling these junk phones. This is like a slightly improved Galaxy Grand Prime.

  14. I'm just glad I am free of the Sprint prepaid subsidiaries and their rare/slow coverage and underwhelming plan deals and higher-than-retail, locked-in phones.

Other than this, they are great!

  15. These phones are worth only $60 and $40, respectively.

They'll probably collect dust until the next Black Friday sale.
