Cricket Wireless has just announced the availability of the new budget-friendly smartphone on their lineup. Starting today, customers may be able to get the new ZTE Grand X 3 online and in stores for only $129.99. For customers who want to make the switch to Cricket, the device will be available for only $79.99. And as an additional bonus, customers who bring in their number to the carrier will receive a $50 bill credit.

If you don't know what the Grand X 3 is, it's a feature-packed Android smartphone that comes with a 5.5-inch HD infinity-edge display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor and comes with a long-lasting 3080 mAh battery, two cameras, Dolby Audio, and Android Lollipop. Earlier this month, the device made its debut at the CES in Las Vegas where it obtained some recognitions such as CES Editors' Choice from Reviewed.com.

If you decide to get this device from Cricket Wireless, you can enjoy using the smartphone without an annual contract. You can even choose the plan you want, starting with the $35/monthly after the $5 Auto Pay credit. Not to mention, the plans already include unlimited talk, text and data access in and between US, Mexico, and Canada.

  1. So basically a new customer pays $30 for this phone, cricket has the best promos, I'm thinking of switching to cricket not for the network but for the promos that Tmobile never has. This phone would probably be $250 with Tmobile...

    1. Even if you don't switch for the network reason, you'll get something on a network that is twice as good. So if you have to go somewhere you won't have to buy an AT&T Gophone burner and carry two phones just to have coverage for emergencies like I had to do when Sprint (as lousy as T-Mobile) was my main carrier.

    2. A customer has to activate AutoPay 7 days before the end of the current month to get the $5 discount. I believe this rule is part of the million word Terms and Conditions. Enzo chat customer service rep just confirms this after Cricket put through $40 and not $35 for February.
Other than that annoyance by ATT parent, Cricket service is great.

    1. I for one don't let racism cloud my phone purchasing judgement.

  3. ZTE ZMAX 2 Vs. ZTE Grand X 3 Who wins?

    1. To my mind the ZMAX2 wins @ $80. Faster processor, perhaps better camera (higher pixel anyway). No port in or bill credit requirements, many have reported issues w/Cricket rebates/credits.

@ $80 for the ZMAX 2 vs. $30 for the Grand X if you were gong to port over and stay w/Cricket anyway it's probably a tie.

JMO, I only have experience w/the ZMAX 2, never touched / seen the Grand X in person.

    2. Another possibility for a bit more ($100 through Sun. @ Best Buy only) is the BLU Vivo XL. Dual SIM, unlocked AMOLED display.

Speaking about unlocked - the $80 GoPhone ZMAX 2 is an easy, free unlock via AT&T (get code BEFORE ever activating the phone!! Or pay $4 on eBay). Not sure if there are any unlocks avail for the Grand X3.

    3. Wow - at $100 the BLU Vivo XL (unlocked and with no strings attached) seems like a great deal.

  4. So the $80 price for a new customer is straight up, out the door? No waiting for any rebate?

When is the $50 port in "bill credit" applied? After first month, after second billing cycle???

    1. The ZTE Grand X 3 ie $79.99 out the door if you part your number.

The $50 bill credit is applied 60 days after activation provided you have made two monthly plan payments and the phone has been in service at least 45 days.

    2. Dennis - I believe you but please have the first paragraph edited to reflect reality. It gives a completly different story/impression and lacks clarity.

    3. I don't see anything wrong with the first paragraph, the prices are correct and so is the bill credit. It doesn't say the bill credit is instant, they never are.

    4. It says "For customers who want to make the switch to Cricket, the device will be available for only $79.99." Should read For customers who port their number to Cricket the device will be available for $79.99.

It says "And as an additional bonus, customers who bring in their number to the carrier will receive a $50 bill credit." which is OK but info. re the credit would be appreciated, like after 60 days the price would effectively be $29.99.

Maybe I have it wrong, are both the $50 instant discount and $50 bill credit dependent on porting over a number to a new account w/Cricket?

    5. A switcher credit implies porting, you can only switch if you have service with another carrier and thus have a number to port.

Yes, the $50 bill credit and the $50 device both require porting.

The details of the offer can be found at the source link.

    6. Really don't want to belabor the point but this post is written clearly.

With activation this phone will cost you a hundred thirty bucks plus taxes, fees, etc.

But if you want a switcher deal and most people reading here know what switcher deals are (quite likely more of the general public would be confused by the term port-which in this case is not a sweet wine :)
-- then you get it for 80 bucks!
and lastly with that switching of carriers at some point in the future you are supposed to get a 50 buck credit...
Credit NOT CASH.. to your account not to pay for or on this phone!

So really it's well written and concisely accurate without (blog post size limitations likely considered) giving excessive details of all the terms and conditions best read directly from the cricket website.

      Dennis and Christine, Do
keep up the good and timely work of keeping us informed of all the changes in the prepaid world as it's truly appreciated!

  5. The Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 at the same price point is superior is just about every single way.

  6. Always look at Boost and MetroPCS first. Both have unlimited plans for 60.00. If you live and work in a good coverage area for either of these companies, go with them first. They don't throttle their LTE and you don't support the Verizon/AT&T duopoly.

  7. Solid price, but this is a SD210 device which is gimped in many ways like 720P max video recording. However, it is much better than most of the junk 1GB RAM/5MP Camera phones they are currently selling.

  8. Is there an activation fee and sim fee in stores?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Activation is $25. The SIM is supposed to be included with the phone.

  9. Thanks Dennis. I understood it first reading and was telling my wife the same thing I then read in Zach's comment.

  11. I can confirm that this device is unlockable and can also confirm that, despite the specs not having band 17 listed, it does infact have band 17. I bought it the first day (got a cheap $3 T-Mobile account so I could get the $79 port-in discount) and found an eBay seller who unlocks any ZTE phone on any U.S. network for only $3.50. Currently using it on Harbor Mobile 2.0, which is basically AT&T postpaid service. I had the Cricket-branded Alcatel Idol 3 for 2 months and could never find an unlock code. Everytime I thought I found one the seller ended up having to refund me. I couldn't find one that could do Cricket Alcatel unlocks. I could find Alcatel unlocks for virtually any other carrier including AT&T, but it wouldn't work with Cricket. Tried 2-3 times. Don't know if that's changed since then, but I like the Grand X 3 more anyways (not by that much). I also have a gold BLU Vivo XL coming in tomorrow morning.

  12. Per http://m.gsmarena.com/zte_grand_x_3-7852.php this phone lacks a compass sensor.
