Selectel Wireless Improves Four Plans With More Minutes, Texts and Data

Selectel Wireless Logo on Store
Independent Verizon MVNO Selectel  has made improvements to four of its plans:

  • The $30 monthly plan has been upgraded from 1300 minutes, 3000 texts and 500 MB to 1500 minutes, unlimited text, and 1 GB of data.
  • The $40 monthly plan with unlimited talk and text has been upgraded from 1 GB to 2 GB of data.
  • The $55 monthly plan with unlimited talk and text has been upgraded from 3 GB to 5 GB of data.
  • The $70 monthly plan with unlimited talk and text has been upgraded from 5 GB to 7 GB of data.
Selectel is notable for being the only Verizon MVNO to offer both LTE data and no extra charge off network voice roaming. Selectel, along with PagePlus Cellular also offers text roaming. As with all Verizon MVNOs, Selectel's LTE data is throttled to a maximum of 5 Mbps.

In a message to its dealers Selectel said that the improved plans are available immediately, however the Selectel website has not been updated. Selectel has always been more focused on selling through dealers than online and their website has lagged behind reality in the past. Selectel did announce the plan changes on its Facebook Page and says that current customers plans will be updated automatically.

At least one online Selectel dealer, Prepay Refill has updated its website with the improved plans. Prepaid Refill also offers free Selectel activations and has also announced that Selectel SIMs will be free on their site starting tomorrow.

There are no changes to Selectel's other plans. For more about Selectel please see our Selectel Wireless Prepaid Operator Profile. To see how Selectel compares with its Verizon based competition see Verizon and Verizon MVNO Prepaid Plans Compared. With these improvements, Selectel's plans now match or exceed those of TracFone's PagePlus brand while offering domestic voice roaming, which PagePlus does not.

    1. Maybe for you, but clicking on a plan on selectelwireless.com/wireless-plans doesn't do anything for me.

    2. The plan description has been updated within the product description but not within the plan list.
This link is for the $70 Plan: http://www.selectelwireless.com/product/unlimited-plus-2/

    1. Yes Straight Talk, BET10, PagePlus and RedPocket have plans with unlimited throttled data. See Verizon and Verizon MVNO Prepaid Plans Compared for details.

    2. Thank You Dennis for additional info likely many more are appreciative than add any comments. Some probably won't ask when wondering the same..
it's nice to have the option for some of us at least to be able to send an email or pull up a website even if its slow after the fast data is used up and don't really need another gigabyte especially at the end of the monthly period.

    3. rok mobile. has the best vz throttle. 256k as opposed to almost useless throttle of the others

  3. AF Mobile, The Network Where Freedom Rings, beats most Verizon MVNOs. Their $35 plan with Unlimited TnT and 1GB is excellent.

    1. That doesn't even beat Selectel. Unless you're a telemarketer. lol

    2. Interesting....

W/a name like Armed Forces Mobile I would think that you need to show active / retired military service, the there is this net address
      http://myafmobile.net/military-members-only/

      BUT

No where on their site or their T & C do I see it mentioned as being restricted to current or former military members.???

    3. "That doesn't even beat Selectel. Unless you're a telemarketer. lol"

Well, depends on need. If a user talks more than 1600 min. every month (1500 + 100 @ .05/min.) then maybe they would save & prefer AF Mobile $35 vs. Selectel $30. If they want the extra GB of data then Selectel $40 would be logical but if they don't care for / use even 1 GB / mo. the again AF Mobil may be the choice.

      Nice to have choices.

    4. "No where on their site or their T & C do I see it mentioned as being restricted to current or former military members.???"

Armed Forces Mobile is limited to those who have served in the armed services, are presently serving in the armed services, have dodged the draft of the armed services, are a family member of someone in the armed services (including having an ancestor involved), live in a country defended by the armed services, or live in a country invaded by the armed services.

      A very exclusive group.

    3. Red Pocket Mobiles' eBay Exclusive 1 year of service for only $199 using Big Reds' network every MONTH (not 30 days) you get 1000 minutes/1000 texts/1000 MB 4G LTE Data is a pretty sweet deal $16.58/MONTH. I bought a PIN from their eBay store during the holidays for $159.99 for my next years'service which gets it down to $13.33/Month !

    4. Isn't that half a GB LTE and half a GB low speed?

      Delete
    5. i beleive you might be thinking about the way Airvoice does things plus they do not have 4G LTE yet.

    6. nope, he is correct. the terms state it plainly on that redpocket plan. 500mb lte, then the rest is throttles between 128k and 64k, so almost useless.

    7. Check the fine print on the eBay listing. 500 MB high speed.

Also mentioned as a gotcha in the write up on this site. http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2015/09/red-pocket-now-selling-one-year-plans.html

  7. I went with a major Selectel dealer and had an awful time (randomly losing account, company vanishing off the radar for a few weeks).... I recommend going with the company and its phone support and web site instead. It's superb there.

  8. Missing is a Verizon LTE mvon.prepaide unlimited plan with meaningful discounts (like Cricket Wireless).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I doubt that will come anytime soon. Cricket is truly the best deal in wireless for a family plan. It's crazy that you can get 5 lines for $100 TOTAL including taxes with 2.5gb of high speed... I don't think any other service can even TOUCH its value...

  9. Selectel is notable for being the only Verizon MVNO to offer both LTE data and off network voice roaming.

Page Plus and Puppy Wireless also advertise voice roaming, but the service is extra cost, while Selectel includes voice roaming in their service costs.

  10. Selectel's LTE data is throttled to a maximum of 5 Mbps. What is Verizon prepaid data speed?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Are there any good real world examples of what this throttled speed prevents you from doing?

      Delete
    2. Verizon Prepaid data is not throttled. Can be any where from zero to 100 Mbps depending on location and network load.

  11. If I get 4 Mbps from Verizon prepaid in my area, would I get 4 Mbps in the same area using selectel?

    1. Probably although if the network is congested Verizon may give MVNO and prepaid customers lower data priority.

  12. Does Selectel charge an activation fee if using their website? I know some dealers do it for free but I'm just curious if it's the same with Selectel.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Selectel charges an activation fee when activating online $30 for BYOP phones and $15 for Selectel phones. I've heard activations are free if you call them.

  13. Thank you Dennis. Prepayrefills does free port ins and provides free SIM cards. You do have to pay for the shipping which comes to about five dollars and cents.
I really appreciate your assistance and help with all these things prepaid related. It's amazing all the time and dedication you provide to all of us. I check the website every day to keep current with all the most recent news. I have been able to make wise decisions because if your posts and early information.
    Keep up the awesome work!

  14. The Selectel plans have still the same data. I was told by CS that the changes are permanent except the website is still not updating as it should.

Go to the main page and click on "Shop" then hit "plans", you will see blue circles with the plan price, for example if you click the $30 plan you will see 1500 talk minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data and so on.
I know its confusing because part of the website is still the old way with the old information. I chatted with CS this morning just to confirm if they were permanent changes or going away and they said they are here to stay.
