Several Prepaid Promotions Ending, Will They Be Renewed?

Prepaid Promos
Boost Mobile, AT&T GoPhone, Cricket Wireless and MetroPCS all have promos that either ended or are due to end this week or last. All the major carriers, except for Verizon, have been running back to back prepaid promos for over a year as they fight for market share. Here's a run down of what's ended or ending along with my guesses as to what might happen.

Boost Mobile

Promotion: $50 account credit when you buy a phone online and port your number from a non-Sprint network operator.
Status: Was due to end 1/3/16 but has been extended until 1/25/16.

Promotion: Free LTE phone at Boost Mobile Stores when you port a number from a non-Sprint network operator.
Status: Was due to end 1/3/16 but has been extended until 1/25/16

Promotion: Up to $100 off Boost phones at RadioShack when you port a number from a non-Sprint network operator.
Status: Due to end 1/9/16. I have no idea whether it will be extended.

AT&T GoPhone

Promotion: $40 off selected smartphones online when you buy $45 or more in airtime.
Status: Ended 12/31/15 and was not extended but GoPhone added more data to the $45 and $60 GoPhone plans 1/8.

Cricket Wireless

Promotion: $100 bill credit when you port a number to Cricket.
Status: Due to end 1/7/16. Cricket has consistently been the most aggressive promoter so I think there's a good chance this promo will be extended. In addition, rumor has it that Cricket will bring back its old $60/month 20 GB plan tomorrow.

Update 1/8/16: Cricket has replaced the $100 port in bill credit with a rather lackluster discounted phones for port-ins offer: Motorola Moto E $9.99, HTC Desire 520 $19.99, ZTE Overture 2 $29.99, Microsoft Nokia 640 $59.99 when you port your number to Cricket. AT&T customers excluded. Ends 1/21/16.

MetroPCS

Promotion: Free LTE phone at MetroPCS Stores when you port a number to MetroPCS from a mon T-Mobile based operator.
Status: Was due to end 1/4/16. However, the offer is still listed on the MetroPCS site under Current Promotions however fine print on the prono page still says the offer ends 1/4/16. I can't tell whether this promotion has been extended or not, but I suspect it hasn't and MetroPCS will announce something new in the next few days.

  1. Thanks Dennis!

Have been wondering whether I should go with a current switcher promo or wait to see the new years offerings?
may wait a day or so ..
sadly they don't announce ahead of time so sometimes some might have buyers remorse when new phones announced or perhaps a new offer for a better deal but then that's their game!

    4. In normal use in thw last year I sonetime go over 10gb. With this 20gb plan I have no worries when I do so. And with the new Google Music deal (better than iTunes) I do stream a lot.

  4. As usual, RingPlus is still the leader in new 2016 Prepaid Promos:
The Cèzanne plan gives you 1800x3 for a full year.
That should quiet some whiners who think their free stuff will be snatched away soon.

  5. May be too early to mention, but Crickets 5th line discount ends in March, goes up $10.

    1. yes the website still has the five lines for a hundred bucks here in January two months of a free line isn't really a promotion when hiding the real cost coming in March. Should have already changed it to five lines for 110 in the website advertising if that's what they intend to do

but truth in advertising and cellular carriers maybe they don't go together as well as we would like!

  8. I am using 20GB Plan and non-cricket device that allow to use tethering for free. I would replace my home internet to Cricket's 20GB plan.

  9. doesn't sound like cricket or metro really want to get aggressive for any new customers in the new year

Let's hope February bring some changes

  10. Keep in mind Cricket charges a $25 activation fee per line. Good luck getting your rebate. I had to file a complaint with the FCC.

    1. There's no activation fee when activating online.

  11. Cricket chose to raise the prices on some of their phones instead
Maybe to make February promo look better? let's hope some improved promos are coming..and not the new CEO's way of making cricket a "premium brand" and better revenue stream for AT&T!
but none of the new promos or switcher deals look very impressive for the first month of 2016..
Dennis when do the subscriber numbers come out?
Could it be they're all happy with their gains for the Christmas quarter?
