Walmart Family Mobile Changes Its Plan Options

walmart-family-mobile-$49.88-unlimited-plan
Walmart Family Mobile has just added a new unlimited plan into their lineup. This new plan includes unlimited talk, text and data with 10GB at 4G LTE speeds for only $49.88 a month. And as a bonus for those who pay their bill on time each month, users can get one free Vudu movie per month under this plan. The free movie rental code is offered as a $7 Vudu credit and may be used within 30 days, otherwise it will expire. This video on-demand service is only available as a limited time offer.

Apart from announcing the new $49.88 unlimited plan, Walmart Family Mobile has scraped out the former $24.88 plan which included unlimited talk and text. With these two new announcements, the new plans available under Walmart Family Mobile include:

  • $29.88 - comes with unlimited talk, text and data with first 1GB at 4G LTE speeds
  • $39.88 - comes with unlimited talk, text and data with first 5GB at 4G LTE speeds
  • $49.88 - comes with unlimited talk, text and data with first 10GB at 4G LTE speeds
The plans also include Data Saver that helps data last up to three times longer compared to normal video streaming. It's similar to T-Mobile's Data Maximizer or Binge On service that helps each user save as much as they can. The Data Saver feature may be switched off at any time if the users wants to watch a video at a higher quality. But once the alloted data is reached, the data automatically is reduced to 2G. The Data Saver service is also available for a limited period.

Walmart Family Mobile is a postpaid no-contract MVNO under T-Mobile's network.

    1. No but there seem to be lots of complaints about billing issues and WFM not letting customers pay their bills and then immediately sending accounts to collections. See Top 365 Complaints and Reviews about Walmart Family Mobile

  3. postpaid so please keep in mind that this means there are more taxes and fees (beyond sales taxes)of varying amounts added to your costs ! :(

When you add the taxes and fees it' certainly not as good a deal as Walmart makes it appear. as well as there is no roaming on Walmart family plans so if you can use T Mobile coverage you'd probably be best to still look elsewhere.
for example t-mobile's Metro PCs not only has roaming and unlike the Walmart family plan doesn't charge an additional fee
Plus if you're porting a number are currently giving you a choice of a couple of free phones.

    1. Walmart Family Mobile DOES offer voice/sms roaming. It is shown as gray here on their coverage map, and is probably the same as MetroPCS.

    2. Plans that have great voice/text message covering but no data at all except in a small area are only great if you go back to 2008.

    3. Who has a plan like that today, some little regional operator?

  4. Doesn't make sense to get these plans over MetroPCS.

    1. No good reason at all not to go with MetroPCS! Truly unlimited data says it all.

    2. If you use less than 10 GB, why not get the WFM 10gb plan vs the Metro $60 one.

    3. Metro is a bit more challenging to use when go outside of major cities and within carvernous buildings. If you don't travel outside their main service areas, Metro is great. Otherwise, selecting provider with a wider coverage area might be a better choice.

    4. Metro has coverage in all 497 of the urban areas in the USA (over 50,000 population).
They have coverage in all but one of the 20 smallest of the 3500 remaining US cities (Census metro areas over 10,000 people).
Metro also has Band 12 coverage now, which penetrates buildings as well as Verizon and AT&T. There are more than 25 phones that support Band 12.

  5. walmart also charges activation by requiring that you buy the activation kit.
metro doesn't charge an activation fee.
This will add up if you are actually using this as a family plan of multiple lines.

    1. Walmart Family Mobile allows hotspot. I don't know if it's automatically enablesd on their phone or you have to figure out how to enablr it yourself but the Family Mobile Terms & Conditions | Walmart Support says:

"Tethering your Device to other lawful devices is permitted pursuant to the terms and conditions and allotments of your Data Plan."

  9. If this is a postpaid plan does it have access to the full T-mobile network or just prepaid towers?

    1. Walmart Family Mobile has free off network voice and text roaming but no data roaming.

Coverage is identical to MetroPCS which is a better deal in my opinion. The MetroPCS $60 plan with no taxes and unlimited, unthrottled data is about the same price as WFM's $49.88 10 GB plan with taxes
