Cricket, MetroPCS, Boost and Verizon Prepaid Promos Extended

Stuck in the Wrong Network?
For the last couple of years all four national carriers have been aggressively competing for prepaid market share by offering customers free phones, rebates and account credits for porting-in a number. These promotions come and go. Verizon, AT&T's Cricket, T-Mobile's MetroPCS and Sprint's Boost Mobile all had port-in promos that were due to end between March 31 and April 5th. Fortunately most of these offers have been extended. Here's a round up of currently available big four prepaid promos.

Verizon has extended its $75 credit for customers switching to Verizon Prepaid through April 30. The offer, which was originally scheduled to end March 31, gives a $75 credit to anyone porting a number from another carrier to the $45 or $60 Verizon Prepaid plan. The $75 comes in the form of a $25 bill credit that's applied after each of the first three monthly renewals of the plan. This offer is available online. Source: Verizon Wireless

MetroPCS' free phones for switchers offer, which was due to end 4/4 has been extended to 4/30. It gives customers who bring a number from a non-T-Mobile network based operator a free LG Optimus K7 or Samsung Galaxy Core Prime or a $49 instant rebate on any other phone.  The offer is available at MetroPCS stores, not online and is limited to a maximum of 5 free phones per account. 1. Useful information. Based upon the weakness of the promotions it appears the carriers are content with slow growth for the second quarter.

  3. Is the MetroPCS phone truly free? Seems like there's a catch. Can't really check out the plans on Metro's website (website bug?) and I'm upgrading from Tracfone GSM BYOP.

    1. Depending on your state's tax laws you may have to pay sales tax on the full retail price of the phone. Some MetroPCS dealers may also charge an activation fee.

MetroPCS plans are here: No Contract Cell Phone Plans - MetroPCS®. The page works for me in the Chrome browser.

    2. Huh, the page gives me "Examples of streaming video" and won't me exit it.

    3. Try a different browser. For me the plans are listed above the streaming video, etc usage calculator.
