Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving is Nov 25 this year. Retailers traditionally kick off the final weeks of the holiday shopping season with deeply discounted "doorbusters" on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. That makes them some of the best days of the year to get deals on many things, including prepaid and unlocked phones.

The Prepaid Phone News Tracker tries to list all known in-store Black Friday and Thanksgiving prepaid and unlocked phone deals in one place. Bookmark this page and check back again as the Tracker will be updated as new deals appear.

Here are the deals, listed below in order of the sale's starting day and time.

Click the store name to go directly to that retailer's home page or Black Friday sale page (if available).

Items with links are also expected to be available online. Prepaid Phone News will publish a separate Online Black Friday Deal Tracker when online deals start to leak which usually doesn't happen until Black Friday week.

If you don't want to wait until Black Friday or need a phone right now see the latest Prepaid Phones on Sale post.

  3. I thought the Moto G Play would work
on any LTE network. But the listings
here show Verizon. Will the Verizon
Moto G Play work on other LTE networks
    as well?

    1. No Verizon has one for just their prepaid service. If you buy it on the Motorola website then it is the unlocked version that costs much more. Verizon has this one subsidized for their prepaid customers.

  7. Nice humorous picture, including what looks like a guy throwing a stiff arm on his dash for 5% off airtime (keeping it contextual here.) Are there any yet unconfirmed prepaid/unlocked BF deals for iPhones?

  8. Dennis, where did you see the Costco Moto phone deal would also be available online? The holiday flyer has it on a page headed "Holiday Savings In-Warehouse", and the specific ad does not have the red "Also available at Costco.com" box.

    2. Doesn't the Moto G4 from Costco require a new line to be activated?

      Delete
    3. Doesn't appear to need a new line of service. According to the ad, you can get a $75 Costco cash card and a 5200 mAh portable battery IF/when you activate the phone by 12/31 on a new line of service. Fine print says "Limit 1 per member for both with or without activation... No activation is required." I read that to mean you can buy the phone 11/25, and it's up to you if you activate it through Costco or elsewhere. You'll only get the additional freebies if you activate through them, though.

    1. Straighttalk plans are still $45 right? ST is giving you a nice phone to get a high contract! Is this worth it? Can you not activate phone and bring it to Tracfone NEt10 Total or any other provider?

    2. Does the ST iPhone 5s have AT&T LTE GSM band support/capability? Anyone know what the Axxxx iPhone model number of this ST version is?

Yes, I think many who are thinking about buying this don't plan to use it on ST :) .

      Delete
    4. Others have reported successfully activating the ST iPhone 5s on Page Plus and Tracfone. It's likely that it can be activated on any America Movil brand using Verizon towers.

However, it's locked to America Movil brands for 12 months and they may not actually unlock it after 12 months and just give a token trade in value for it.

I've read both A1453 and A1533 for model number.

      ---------------------------------------------
      ---------------------------------------------

      Yes

I think that Trackfone family (tracfone, straight talk, Net 10, etc) phones are locked at that Tracfone Level, not at the individual section level.

As I recall, I tried it with a few GSM phones and it worked. (StraightTalk GSM phone worked with Tracfone sim) and Straight Talk GSM sim worked in a Tracfone phone.

Locked at the Tracfone Family Level.

    2. Looks like marshmellow gave verizon some extra tools to prevent this sim swap loophole. Appears to work fine on lollipop still.

      Delete
    3. Two different HoFo user have reported that using an active TracFone Verizon SIM in the Verizon Prepaid Noto G4 Play works: Hpoward Forums - Moto G 4 play.

What's your source for stating that Marshmallow blocks MVNO SIM swapping on Verizon Prepaid phones?

      Delete
    4. I tried it and I get the error: "Please insert Verizon SIM".

    5. According to a Slickdeals thread; Moto G4 Play (Verizon Prepay Version) $39 Dollar General YMMV - Slickdeals.net, a $2.25 eBay unlock code allows the phone to work with an activated TracFone Verizon SIM. That means that the phone is SIM locked, which is surprising as Verizon PP LTE phones are normally not.

      Delete
    6. at $2.25, I thought it was worth a try. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. I guess there might be an unlock code out there that will work, but I think I'm about expended on this one...

      Delete
    7. update on the $29 DG Verizon Moto G4 Play: ebay seller sent over the SIM Unlock code (1.80 GBP, $2.25 US) and it WORKED! This phone is still very crippled Verizon model XT1609, compared to the XT1607 with universal radio, but at least now its usable (and fully tested) with a previously activated tracfone/verizon SIM! good luck!

      Delete
  16. I'd say no, it wouldn't work; 90% certain. Tracfone locks everything tight, including sim to imei (phone id). I suppose there may be some loophole I'm unaware of...

I think if you have an already activated TracFone CDMA BYOP SIM, then swapping SIM into the Straight Talk phone should work. However, trying to activate on TracFone CDMA BYOP using the Straight Talk CDMA IMEI most likely won't work.

  25. None of my multiple comments from yesterday regarding my testing with the moto g4 have been posted, strange...

Sim swapping (swapping an active verizon mvno into a new never before activated verizon pp phone) is NOT possible on the moto g4. It seems to have everything to do with Marshmellow from what I read. I suspect this will be the case with any verizon PP phone running marshmellow. And therefore, no apparent possible way to get around verizon ransom requirement. (12 mos. paid OR "until $75 in payments are received" for moto g4).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Any ideas what is meant by "until $75 in payments are received"?

Can you pay a few months and then get whitelisted? That would seem to contradict the 12 months paid requirement.

Is it just pay us $75 (not for service) and they will whitelist it?

      Delete
    2. To get the phone whitelisted you need to activate the phone and apply $75 airtime to it.

  26. From what I can tell, the Moto G4 Play (Frys $109) is currently the cheapest new phone that has a removable battery AND has factory bootloader unlock available. As a bonus, its also SIM unlocked and works on all 4 US networks. a really rare bird, indeed!

  27. Disappointing MetroPCS seems to have forgotten Black Friday. I was hoping for a promotional rate plan. Cricket family plans beat MetroPCS as does Boost's individual plans.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Im not sure the moto g4 play is worth $109 even unlocked. Its really a pretty low end device made from left over cheap components from years past parts bin. It really has very little in common with the regular moto g4 and is actually mostly an entirely different and inferior device. I suspect the price will continue to decline on the g4 play, as we've seen with the usc and verizon carrier deals at $29. Thats probably a fair price, however, it appears verizon is ignoring the FCC and locking down the sim anyway despite net nuturality agreements.
