Red Pocket 1 Year Prepaid Wireless Plan Deal Spotted on ebay

red-pocket-1-year-prepaid-wireless-plan
A few months ago, it was announced that Red Pocket will be offering one-year plans under Verizon's LTE service. A previous post showed that the plan was priced at $199.99 for a year's service. But according to Red Pocket, the original list price for the plan posted on ebay is $399.

For a limited time, you can take advantage of Red Pocket's promotion. Instead of paying $399, you'll only have to pay $149.99 for a one-year prepaid wireless plan from the MVNO. As a prepaid plan, you won't have to worry about any contracts.

The plan includes:
  • 1,000 minutes
  • 1,000 texts
  • 1,000 MB of data (only the first 500MB is high speed, the remaining is throttled to 64-128k)
The service works with almost any unlocked, GSM or CDMA device. The only requirement is that your wireless contract should have already ended and that you have a good standing account with your former carrier. To avoid issues, Red Pocket recommends using the SIM cards from the Starter Kit. But if you are already a Red Pocket customer or using a non-LTE CDMA or Sprint device, you don't need to use the Starter Kit SIM cards. you can simply activate your phone at myeasyactivation.com after receiving your activation code via email.

  1. Christine, please edit your piece to include that only the first 500MB are high speed, the remaining 500 data is throttled to 64-128k

    2. 64-128k? What determines the exact speed?

    3. The throttled speed probably depends on the carrier you pick but either way it's pretty slow. It's fine for background email and google searches and so on, but webpages with pictures load very slowly and expect frequent buffering watching even low quality Youtube videos after the first 500MB. You can buy additional data on a monthly basis but that defeats the cost effectiveness of this plan if you do it often. However, if you can live with the limitations, it's a decent deal. I'm renewing.

  2. Christine, your post seems to indicate that the 1000 minutes, texts, and MB of data are for an entire year. Isn't this the monthly allotment ?

    1. Yes, Red Pocket's starter kit included SIMs for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.

  4. My wife and I signed up for this eBay plan last year on Black Friday when it was sale priced at $160, it was a great deal then and an even better deal now. I was so glad to leave Page Plus/American Movil. I switched 3 other family members over to Red Pocket Mobile and had no trouble with the porting of numbers (although I did not receive an email that the port was completed). I was hesitant to sign up for a "long term commitment" with any MVNO but the price was just too good. Now I am happy that I don't have to deal with monthly plan renewals. The 1000 minutes/1000 texts renews same day each month, the 1000 Mb seems to renew 1 day off from the voice and text. Easy to track usage at my.redpocketmobile.com and add top up if necessary.

    1. What happens when it runs out - do you simply move to a full price monthly plan?

    2. You just buy the 1 year from ebay again and apply the activation code to your account. This is what I did last month when my service came due.

    3. Can you keep your number and line as it was or are there some loops to jump through? thanks!

    4. If you switch sims you'll get a new number, but if you're already on redpocket just go to myeasyactivation.com and use the activation code you get in the email. Got the deal last year and happy so I just bought renewal. Ideally, I'd like more mobile data, but for less than $15/month it's worth it for me to wait for wifi for streaming video, etc.

  10. Here are the directions I followed to refill my account using the Activation code I was emailed.

To "refill your pin" go to https://goredpocket.com/easyrefill and type in your current redpocket phone number (where it asks) and then click on the button "Go Refill". On the next page there will be a button that says "Already have a refill PIN code? Apply it here!". Click on that button. Another screen will come up with your phone number and a field for your "refill code". You can now type in the "Activation code" that they sent you in email from ebay when you bought the sim card pack.

If you keep the sim card in your phone that you already have (which you got when you originally ported to redpocket) you will keep your phone number/line intact.

  11. One comment on Ebay indicates iPhone users could have a problem with MMS. Can anyone confirm this along with which network they use on Red Pocket Mobile?

    1. MMS doesn't work on iPhones on AT&T MVNOs like Red Pocket that aren't Apple partners. MMS *should* work with Red Pocket on T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon if everything is configured correctly at the network level.

  12. so can buy 2, and refill with 2nd next year or do the sim have expiration date?

    1. You don't need to change sim cards out after one year, just take your activation code and apply it as a refill. Your one year starts over on the day you apply the refill, so don't refill before your current plan is completed. However I would hesitate to hold on to a refill code for one year, too many things could happen in the MVNO world.

  13. Another issue to consider: These plans only include 25 MMS per month. I've had the plan since last year and didn't realize this until many of my MMS and group texts never showed up on my phone. Their eBay listing doesn't mention the limitation, but they will confirm it if you message them. Because of this issue, I will not be renewing the plan this year.

    2. @unknown - who are you switching service to?

    3. There are some limitations on MMS for the GSMA product, but remember also iMessages don't count as SMS or MMS.

    4. I can live with 25 MMS/month. If I want to attach pictures or talk to a group I'll just use email.

  14. The Red Pocket 1000min/1000Mb/unlimited texting plan just dropped tonight from $230 to $180 bringing the monthly price down to $15. Great deal for texters.
