Sprint is Now Pokemon Go's Exclusive Wireless Partner

A few days ago, it was reported that Sprint would be making an 'exclusive' Pokémon Go announcement. This excited avid Pokémon Go users as it would give them something to look forward to about the game they enjoy most. A day after, Sprint finally revealed the big news it had about Pokémon Go.

According to a release on Sprint's newsroom, the carrier has partnered with Niantic Inc., the developer and publisher of the highly successful app, Pokémon Go. The release shares that the partnership was forged as a way of creating a special Pokémon Go experience throughout Sprint's 10,500 locations all over the country. This included its RadioShack Boost Mobile and Sprint stores. Through the partnership, these physical stores will be turned into PokéStops and Gyms for exclusive in-game items and app-related events.

The announcement reveals that the partnership will take effect on December 12, just a few days from now. While there are some creatures expected to emerge on that day, Niantic's CEO teases that others would come on a later date.

So what can Pokémon Go players expect from this partnership?
  • Collect in-game items, such as Poké Balls and eggs, to advance in the game
  • Battle against other Pokémon in Sprint-sponsored Gyms.
  • Recharge device to play more
With the partnership, Sprint expects a huge uptick in traffic; especially since it has been having problems of driving in people to its stores. The partnership is seen as another strategy to advertise Sprint's products and services; rightly so since Sprint has exclusivity as their wireless partner.

As a way of welcoming this partnership, Sprint is inviting customers to switch at least one line to Sprint so they can sign up for Unlimited Freedom with AutoPay starting at $20 per month/line for a family of five. This already comes with unlimited data, talk and text; as well as unlimited mobile optimized streaming videos, gaming and music, and unlimited 4G LTE. The offer is valid until January 31,  2018.

  5. Uhh...a little late to jump on the bandwagon now, Sprint. Should have timed it around when T-Mobile whitelisted Pokemon Go data.

  6. Bad choice... because with Sprint, you can only "catch 'em all" in a small part of the country.

  7. "because with Sprint, you can only "catch 'em all" in a small part of the country." I guess you never played the game. you can only "catch 'em all" in big cities anyways.

    1. I meant catch ANY. Because you can't even get a Squirtle if you have no coverage

Regarding coverage, if you exceed 100mb, or half your usage, while roaming, Sprint can terminate you. The voice limit is 800 minutes. No text or MMS limit specified.

100 MB is nothing. Sprint is just giving the minimum to justify using Verizon's coverage map.

Termination after receiving a subsidized phone wasnt bad. Termination with hundreds of dollars owed on installment billing would be ugly. This is the only reason to lease

    1. Thanks for the truth telling. It counters the Boost storefront owners who come here to say that "roaming on Verizon" is just as good as "being in Verizon"

  9. Kudos to Sprint for keeping up with the times. Hopefully sometime in the next couple of years they will have a similar exclusive deal for that new hot game called Angry Birds.

  10. Sprint service is horrible. you cannot talk or text and play Pokemon Go. You have to put your phone on Do Not disturb to play the game because if you just get a text while playing it will through an Error msg, or Network Error msg. I was in the midst of a big catch when this happened and everything vanished. Switching back to Metro PCS
