ECO Mobile, an MVNO running on Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon's networks, has just announced that they have increased the high speed data allotment on their $30 plans and higher. Prior to today's announcement, ECO Mobile's existing plans included the following unlimited high speed data amounts:

  • $30 per month - 1GB high speed data
  • $40 per month - 3GB high speed data
  • $50 per month - 5GB high speed data
  • $60 per month - 7GB high speed data
Apart from high speed data, the plans include unlimited talk and text.

Now that the announcement has been made, the new plans include the following high speed data allotment:
  • $30 per month - 2GB high speed data (before: 1GB)
  • $40 per month - 4GB high speed data (before: 3GB)
  • $50 per month - 6GB high speed data (before: 5GB)
  • $60 per month - 8GB high speed data (before: 7GB)
Last month, ECO Mobile unveiled two plans that were more affordable compared to the $30 monthly plan:
  • $20 per month - includes unlimited talk, text and 100MB of LTE data
  • $25 per month - includes unlimited talk, text and data with the first 500MB at high speed.

  2. Now all they need is full post paid roaming when subscribing to their Verizon service and they are competitive with Boom, other wise I can't see any advantage other than if you do a whole bunch of international calling to the countries they include in the plan.

    1. $30 plan includes unlimited throttled data after 2gb on Eco, Boom is hard capped after 2gb $30 or $35 for unlimited throttled data after 2gb. So disregarding international calling it boils down to how you value unlimited throttled data vs. full post paid Verizon network roaming.

    2. Not only does Eco's $30 plan have unlimited throttled data, so does the $20.
Which other VW service with unlimited throttled data is available for $20?

    3. ECO's $20 plan is not advertised as having unlimited data. Only the $25 and higher plans do.

  3. Does Eco mobile include all taxes/fees in the monthly plan price (like Boom / Cricket) or do they need to be added on to the posted prices??

  4. I chatted with the rep and asked about the $20 plan, and they said that it does include unlimited data.

If I could include a photo I would.

    1. On your phone hold volume down & power buttons for a few seconds for a screenshot. On a Windows PC, ALT-PrtScn will copy screen to clipboard, open Paint program and paste it to save (might be more automated now - haven't taken a screenshot in several years). No idea how on a Mac or Linux, but I'm sure it's easily found on Google.

    2. A screenshot would only prove that a customer service rep said that the $20 plan includes unlimited data not that it actually does.

Customer service reps are typically low wage script readers with minimal training. When asked a question that's not in their script they sometimes make stuff up.

The ECO website says the $20 plan includes unlimited talk and text and the higher priced plans include unlimited talk, text and data. I'll believe something published in writing on a compamy website over something a CS rep said.

  6. "Last month, ECO Mobile unveiled two plans that were more affordable compared to the $30 monthly plan. Unfortunately, these plans did not include high speed data"

    What does this mean?

  7. Anyone able to answer the taxes/fees & tethering questions?

    1. ECO Mobile Terns and Conditions prohibit tethering.
ECO is based in California so they are supposed to collect the CA MTS fee from CA residents. AFAIK, no fees and no taxes in other states.

    2. Took only a few seconds to find on their website:

    3. Thanks, that confirms no taxes for non-CA residents paying Ecomobile online.

    4. Really? I read that FAQ before asking. It is pretty clear they include special fees but my reading of that FAQ (linked above) leaves sales taxes an open question.
"ECO Mobile includes all telecom taxes and surcharges in the price of your prepaid plan.

State Sales Tax not included and may be applicable based on retailer and the State you are located."

    5. I think what Ecomobile is saying is that if you buy airtime from a local retailer, the retailer is required collect applicable state and local sales taxes from you.

An online seller is only required to collect state taxes from customers in states where the seller has offices. AFAIK, Ecomobile's only office is in California. It's possible that Ecomobile collects taxes in states where they don't have offices but they have no incentive to do that as they would have to turn the money over to the individual states and deal with all the bureaucracy and paperwork involved.

    6. Thanks Dennis, seems like a sensible interpretation.
