  3. Cricket has to match metropcs $50 unlimited plan!

  4. MetroPCS is 3-6 x faster download than Cricket. I used both. I know

    1. And in a large part of the US, Cricket is much faster than METROPCS because METROPCS has no coverage. Advantage Cricket.

    2. This is true, but for most customers it makes no difference because they don't need mobile data in those places.
Twice as many people use MetroPCS as Cricket.
They don't want crippled LTE and HSPA service.

    3. "Twice as many people use MetroPCS as Cricket" That seems unlikely. Do you have a source for MetroPCS and Cricket subscriber counts?

    4. You asked me the same question last year. I posted a link to a T-Mobile quarterly or PR announcement report that said Metro had over 11M subscribers. I also posted a link to an article around the same time that said Cricket had finally grown back up to the number of subscribers they had at the time they announced the sale to AT&T, about 5.5M subscribers. Cricket lost many customers during and after the transition. Both brands have continued to grow, so I think Metro is over 12M now, and Cricket over 6M.

    5. "so I think Metro is over 12M now, and Cricket over 6M"

In other words, you don't have the subscriber counts Dennis asked for.

    6. Neither company posts numbers for the sub-brands on a regular basis. 11M and 5.5M were already documented here on the website. Here is the latest growth info from Tmo which indicates Metro would be well over 12M by now:

"Branded prepaid net additions were 541,000 in Q4 2016, which once again led the industry driven by the continued success of the MetroPCS brand. For full-year 2016, branded prepaid net additions were 2.5 million, which was the best annual performance in Company history."

    7. Here is an article that showed Cricket finally got back up to 5M in May 2015. It had the same number in July, 2013 when the sale of Leap was announced:

    8. Based on overall carrier customer totals, most customers DO need good coverage, which puts METROPCS at a disadvantage compared to Cricket.

Metro is even more crippled than Cricket due to lack of towers.

      Delete
    9. Metro customers can use AT&T and regional carrier towers for voice and sms. They don't need data from those towers, based on subscriber numbers and trends.

Metro had more than 10M subs way back in Aug 2014 when Tmo took over 1st place in prepaid from Sprint with 15.64M total prepaid customers. AT&T reported 11.34M then, with Cricket less than 5M of that.
As of 12/1/16 Tmo had about 19.3M total prepaid customers and AT&T about 13M. - Market Realist.

      The gap is widening.

    10. Update: T-Mobile had 19.813 Million branded prepaid customers at the end of December, 2016. - Jan 5, 2017 press release.

  5. They changed unlimited plan to pro plan. Shame.

  6. Meh, Cricket is way too slow and unreliable, that's why they have participate in these marketing gimmicks. MetroPCS is the real deal in prepaid. No throttle. Better coverage. Free tethering. Unlimited Music. Free phones.

    1. Better coverage?? You realize they are on the T-Mobile network, and Cricket is on the AT&T network right?

      Delete
    2. Metro PCS has about 70% of the coverage that Cricket does (Boost has less than 50%). All of them are clobbered to varying degrees by Verizon Prepaid.

  7. Metro PCS's T-Mobile networks improved a lot than last year. How about Cricket(AT&T)? Are they expanded coverage in advanced?

  8. Is this promo going the bring new customers or make existing customers stay ???

    1. If anyone is so idiotic as to make their carrier choices to hate something based on pro wrestling, I would hope that they don't have any cell that work at all and lock themselves in a dark basement without any Telecommunications.

  9. Cricket is far better if the coverage meets your needs (still not as good as ATT . My beef with them is that is a PITA to swap phones.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why is swapping phones a PITA with Cricket?

It's MetroPCS, not Cricket, that makes you call them every time you move your SIM to a different phone.

    2. My sister dropped her three week old CricKet phone I sent her the spare Phoenix 2 that I had unlocked. She popped in her old sim and was off and running with the new one. I don't know if she had to call them or not but I don't believe that was the case.

  10. Since everything is personal with The Donald, by Cricket supporting WWE and Trump friend and business partner, Vince McMahon, ATT must be trying to gain support for their next try at acquiring T-Mobile or Sprint. Which begs the question: Does anyone think cellular prices will keep going down if the current DOJ allows mergers between the Big 4 Carriers?

    1. A merger of T-Mobile or Sprint would be very bad for the consumer. Their is no doubt.

      Delete
    2. AT&T doesn't want to buy Sprint, no one wants to buy Sprint! But they might grab T-Mobile

  11. " Does anyone think cellular prices will keep going down if the current DOJ allows mergers between the Big 4 Carriers?"

Yeah. no difference if T-Mobile takes over Sprint. Sprint is irrelevant.

  12. The Cricket hate is strong with the Metro crowd...
