Coolpad Defiant to Launch on T-Mobile Next Week, MetroPCS Launch to Follow Shortly

Coolpad Defiant
T-Mobile has been offering a number of Coolpad devices on its website. But according to a release this morning, a new Coolpad smartphone could soon be coming to the carrier.

As announced earlier, the Coolpad Defiant is making its way to both T-Mobile and its prepaid arm MetroPCS. With this announcement, the Defiant is said to be equipped with a 5-inch display with a resolution of 854x480. From within, the device will be operating on a Snapdragon 425 processor and 1GB of RAM. It will also have an on board storage of 8GB with a microSD card slot for memory expansion. Camera-wise, the device will have a 5-megapixel sensor on the back and a 2-megapixel camera in front. It also carries a 2,450 mAh battery and will run on Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box. The Defiant supports band 12 LTE and Rich Communications Services (RCS) messaging.

This device is said to launch on T-Mobile on June 16th. Not too long after that, it will be available on MetroPCS as well. To date, the device has not been given a price. But considering it will be carrying some basic specs, it may fall under a budget to mid-range price tag.

  1. Another 20 buck coolpad phone for Metro PCS for the poorest of the poor, or those who just don't care and want a working phone.

  2. Who purchase this trashes? Why they are selling piece of trash in the US?

  3. Budget priced phones fit the needs of the majority of boost mobile and metro pcs customers. Recently placed a $75 list price used boost mobile phone onto ebay auction starting at $12 and it was bid up to $37 by 6 different bidders all with ebay shipping addresses to warehouses in Doral Florida. These new budget phones are a good alternative to used ebay phones

  4. "Budget to Mid-Range" ?
How's 'bout Black Friday $10 Deal Of The Day!

Why do people who pay $30 + per month & buy such dreadful phones? If you can't afford a decent phone, get disciplined & use TracFone! Then you can afford a good phone. No one talks as much as texting. TracFone is two-texts-per-penny with unlimited carryover. Most people are around WiFi most of the time...there's your internet to conserve the 1-penny-per-MB data with unlimited carryover.

Buy good phones people! Not 480p displays with 1 GB Ram.

Thanks for the posting though. China's still cranking out the best in carcinogenic-tech.

    1. I don't know who pays for your WiFi, but I pay for my own.

    2. Ageed , this phone is garbage. Selling junk like this will eventually cost them customers.

  5. They are ripping odd naive customers by selling them phones like these.

    1. Yes these are really cheap phones, but a lot of people just don't have the money. But the phone is new, hopefully it'll be better than the last few.

  6. The coolpad canvas from Cricket is a better phone. The problem is that it can't be unlocked.

    1. Cricket will unlock any of their phones if you upgrade to the $60 plan. Upgrade, get the unlock and then downgrade to your preferred plan. The upgrade/download are prorated so it will cost $2 or less if you request the unlock immediately after upgrading and downgrade as soon as you get it.

    2. I got a Coolpad Canvas unlocked by being on the cricket unlimited plan. It took them about a week overall tho vs the 1-2 days for other phones. Probably coz its new and/or Coolpad dont have an unlock chain set up.

I also found recently that the old upgrade/downgrade on cricket doesnt work anymore coz they only allow one change vs the two per billing cycle as in the past.

Hopefully I'm wrong on this one?

    3. You said exactly what i was thinking! & when I first read this I was hoping they were launching their version of the Canvas. So baffling to me who makes these decisions, launching this junk when the Canvas is just under 50 bucks & is much better then these specs! I could not get the thing unlocked though myself to use on Tmobile. Sites are advertising they can unlock it but actually cannot yet. So I returned it.

  7. Why are so many phones limited to 1gb RAM? That was just enough 5+ years ago, but no longer. If your apps are crashing, it's lack of RAM. If there's an sd card slot, internal s storage doesn't matter, as you can root it and use Link2SD to move apps there. Installed software doesn't matter, I disable the included crud and add my preferred software for EVERYTHING. Give me a cheap phone with a 4" screen, replaceable battery, sd card slot, and at least 1.5gb, without stupid omissions like missing brightness sensor, flash, etc, and I'm happy.

  8. I work at an authorized Metro PCS store, and around 40% of the customers ask "What's the cheapest phone you have?" That's who this phone is for the people who just want a cheap phone to make calls and send texts.
You would be surprised how many people have the $30 dollar plan with a 20 buck phone.

    1. Welcome to America, "Burner Nation".

      Delete
    2. Exactly!.. not everyone in America requires an $800 Iphone that is nothing else but a status symbol. I would agree that about 80% of the customers who purchase this device are using it as a "secondary" or burner device. The remaining 20% are those that could care less about internet/specs and are using it for making/receiving calls mainly. In case you weren't aware, most ppl can't afford an $80 LIMITED plan with a $30 financing charge for 2 years. The beauty of MetroPCS is that you can use ANY device and still take advantage of their unbeatable UNLIMITED rate plans. Oh and btw, they give these phones away. Wireless carriers profit from monthly service payments after 3 months, NOT device sales. Just because you got suckered into an $800 phone that you end up paying double for in financing charges plus overages from your "top notch" sub par carrier doesn't qualify you as an expert in wireless, keep kidding yourself.

  9. The stuff about $800 phones is mostly clueless "sour grapes"... Like some guy riding by on a rattly Huffy bicycle ranting about how Lexus cars really really suck.

  10. I agree with you But,I work for Cricket Wireless.most people that come in for a phone don't have that much money, and don't like using Wi-Fi. But if you know how to take advantage of all the free Wi-Fi networks, yes I agree with you can really save a lot of money with tracfhone phone.

  11. Working for Cricket Wireless I can tell you that you can have your phone unlocked in one month if you go with the $60 plan, also you can make changes to your plan twice a month.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Isn't it a little devious to require $60 plan to unlock? Trying to get more bucks out of someone who is not happy with Cricket and looking to leave? Understand a couple of months if freebie / or subsidized phone

    ReplyDelete

    1. Most of Cricket's phones are heavily subsidized. The CTIA unlocking agreement lets carriers make you wait up to 12 months for an unlock. Cricket will unlock its phones after six months on any plan.

The instant unlock for The $60 plan is a nice little added feature and lets you unlock inexpensively by upgrading and downgrading. Doing the upgrade, unlock, downgrade dance is much cheaper than 3rd party unlocks for many phones.
