AT&T Prepaid Promotion Offering Two Months of Service for Free

There's no denying how much prepaid has grown. As a matter of fact, more and more customers have been switching to prepaid. Seeing this immense growth, carriers have started to ramp up its offers for their prepaid clientele. One such company to make changes to its prepaid offering is AT&T Prepaid, which until recently was known as AT&T GoPhone.

According to its announcement, customers who activate service with the carrier will be able to receive two free months in the form of an account credit. These account credits may be used on the 3rd and 12th month of service, which is why AT&T Prepaid encourages its customers to keep their line.

The eligible monthly prices under this promotion include these two options:

  • $40 per month - includes unlimited talk and text and 6GB of high-speed data ($45 without AutoPay)
  • $60 per month - includes unlimited talk, text and data ($65 without AutoPay)
These plans include the option to use service in Mexico and Canada. With the $60/month plan, data speeds are limited to 3 mbps (video streaming is limited to 1.5 mbps) and be slowed down further after 22 GB of data usage. Hotspot is included with the $40 plan but is not available with the $60 plan.

This promotion is available for a limited time starting July 14th.

  1. Is it open to existing customers, or do the GoPhone faithful get screwed?

It looks like RingPlus all over again, and I'm dropping the hell out of them if that two free months doesn't go to the people who've been keeping them in business before their rebranding.

After all, spitting in your customers' faces isn't exactly the best way to earn their loyalty.

    1. Everything i've read indicates that this is for new customers only (AT&T doesn't care about their existing customers).

Also, in order to get the credits the account can't have any lapse in service. So effectively it's an annual contract on Prepaid to get the benefits.

  2. Still waiting for AT&T Prepaid to get HD Voice/VOLTE like Cricket does.

    1. Then Cricket from what I see is the only one that does. All the MVNO's do not as well. Shame that Cricket is the only one that does offer it. All the T-Mobile MVNO's already do.

  3. Wut? At&t Prepaid is only 3 mbps? When did this happen?
Is Cricket still a max of 8 mbps?

    1. The AT&T prepaid unlimited plan is 3 Mbps. It has been from the start.

      Cricket is still 8 Mbps.

    1. Only For the lucky one's living in or real close to big metro cities, others don't even get 1 bar signal to make an acceptable phone call

  5. This is almost like a contract, I hate these bait and switch promos.

  6. GoPhone/AT&T Prepaid is doing other things to lock people in, like making you lose rollover data if you downgrade plans or revert from a multi-line plan to a single line plan. However, the price is great for 6GB with high speed and quality service. Very tempting. Is there any worry that AT&T will downgrade all prepaid plans to 3mbs speeds?

    1. They won't unless their goal is losing to Metro.

I wouldn't think so. They have had a phobia about unlimited data (probably because of the iPhone experience,) but 6GB should be quite manageable. If not, it would be a bad PR hit on their network.

  7. Discovered one thing I didn't realize about AT&T Prepaid. Visual Voicemail does not work on my Nexus 5x, and other phones too, and for some reason the AT&T Visual Voicemail app is not supported. Not a deal breaker, but worth noting.
