Real Mobile Revamps GSM Plans With More Data, Lower Prices

Sprint and AT&T MVNO Real Mobile has made some improvements to its AT&T powered GSM monthly plans, since the last time we looked at them. There are two new $20 plans and more data on the $40 and higher plans. Here's what's new and improved:

  • New: $20/30 days unlimited voice and SMS, 200 MB of LTE data. MMS 15¢ each
  • New: $20/30 days 200 minutes, 200 SMS, 500 MB of LTE data. MMS 15¢ each
  • Improved: $40/30 days unlimited voice, SMS, MMS and data, first 4 GB at high speed (was 2 GB high speed)
  • Improved: $50/30 days unlimited voice, SMS, MMS and data, first 8 GB at high speed (was 5 GB high speed)
  • Improved: $60/30 days unlimited voice, SMS, MMS and data, first 8 GB at high speed plus a $20 international call credit (was 5 GB high speed)

There are no changes to Real Mobile's $30 Unlimited or PayGo GSM plans  or to its Sprint based CDMA plans. Here are tables listing all of Real Mobile's current
plans:

Real Mobile GSM (AT&T) Plans
Cost per 30 Days Voice SMS 2 MMS Data 3
$20/$5 (PayGo) 1 5¢ minute 5¢ text 15¢ ea. 5¢/MB
$20 Unlimited Unlimited 15¢ ea. 200 MB
$20 200 minutes 200 text 15¢ ea. 500 MB
$30 Unlimited Unlimited Included 1 GB
$40 Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 4 GB high speed
$50 Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 8 GB high speed
$60 Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 8 GB high speed
plus $20.00 Int’l call credit
1 PayGo plan requires a $20 initial top up which is good for 30 days. After the first 30 days, the minimum top-up is $5 every $30 days. Unused cash balance rolls over from month to month as long as the account is top-up every 30 days.
2 International SMS are 15¢ each to send on all plans.
3 Additional high speed data can be added to all plans except PayGo at $10 for 500 MB.

Real Mobile CDMA (Sprint) Plans
Cost Voice SMS 1 MMS Data 1
$10/120 days (PayGo) 5¢ minute 5¢ text 15¢ ea. 5¢/MB
$20/365 days (PayGo) 5¢ minute 5¢ text 15¢ ea. 5¢/MB
$30/30 days Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 250 MB high speed
$40/30 days Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 1 GB high speed
$55/30 days Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 2 GB high speed
$60/30 days Unlimited Unlimited Included Unlimited, first 3 GB high speed
1 International SMS are included on monthly plans, 15¢/each on PayGo.

The new $20 plans make Real Mobile very competitive at the $low end. Real's $20 unlimited talk, text and 200 MB plan is the current value leader at that price point. It includes two to four times as much high speed data as $20 AT&T based unlimited talk and text plans from Red Pocket, Airvoice and EasyGo. The data increases on the $40 and higher plans keep Real reasonably competitive at the higher price points.  To see how Real stacks up against its competition, see our AT&T MVNOs Compared and Sprint MVNOs Compared posts.

  1. Real's Sprint-based PayGo plan is heavily throttled, less than 100 Mbps.
Does anyone know whether their AT&T-based PayGo plan is also throttled?

    1. How much is <100mbps?
Is it 0 mbps or is it 99 mbps?

    2. 100 Mbps? I don't think I've ever had a cell phone plan where the data speed was that high. Did you mean something else?

    3. My interpretation of "less than 100 Mbps" is 64 Kbps, no?

    4. 64 Kbps is <100 Mbps, as is 8 Mbps (Cricket), 5 Mbps, 128 Kbps (T-Mobile international roaming,) 256 Mbps (T-Mobile ONE plus international roaming)...

      I'm guessing Anon1127 meant 100 Kbps.

  2. The new $20 200/200/500 is definitely a step in the right direction. I wish more MVNO's would offer low usage plans like this.

    1. $40 on a tripled tracfone BYOP plan gets you 600 min/texts/MB and 3 months of service. Add another GB for $10 so you'll get 500MB per month. Total: $50 or $14/month.

The nice thing (if you're a really low usage person) is that everything rolls over.

    2. Not for single line plans @ $20

    3. Attractive how? Which tier 1 or 2 prepaid carrier offers unl T&T+up to 200MB data at the $20 price point like tier 3 carriers (Real Mobile, Ultra, Lyca, etc) do?

  4. Nothing impressive

  5. For a smaller independent Att mvno, Real punches above its weight class. Maybe not impressive overall compared to giants like Tracfone (Net10 recently got an increase) or bigger more established independents like Red Pocket and H20 (which have good to great Att rates) but for a smaller indie, it holds its own...

  6. Oh look, a quintuple nothing burger with failure, disappointment and extra irrelevance.

    Nothing to see here.

  7. The $20 unlimited T&T plan includes MMS. It's international texting that's priced at 15c each.

    1. This would make the plan more attractive. Dennis, are you able to confirm this?

    2. According to a July 15 email from Real Mobile CEO Robert Barrera, MMS on PayGo and both of the $20 plans are 15¢ each.

    3. Thanks for the reply, Dennis. Maybe they changed the plan since then?

While they do say $.15/international message, there's no mention of $0.15/domestic MMS (though there is a rather interesting and vague "Assumes reasonable and customary charges" fine print perhaps applicable to MMS.)

    4. "Assumes reasonable and customary charges" is a ** footnote to "Picture Messaging (MMS)" so it does apply. I think Real is trying to downplay the fact that MMS costs extra, when it's included with most other carriers unlimited talk and text plans.
